Panthro 10 Posted February 1, 2010 ok I'll say it first I'm a newb at ARMA2 game is installing / updating right now and it seems HUGE:436: and the manual is comprehensive, so I felt my best bet would be to ask a few of the veterans to throw me a clue before I drown myself in setting up my joystick and key bindings :D eg when are the most ppl on?? Sgt.Spoetnik 10 Posted February 1, 2010 Hi and welcome to the forum, good choise to go for Arma2, just check out this forum and you will find tons off stuff to learn from, and in the game the best way to learn and your equipment is to play a lot with the editor and armory. Its a great game but you need to get to learn a bit cause its hard to survive out there:D good luck
Nicholas 5 Posted February 1, 2010 Most people are on during the weekends because most are working during the weekdays.
Alex72 1 Posted February 1, 2010 Welcome! You probably do best in running through the SP missions firsts to get the idea and feel of ARMA. Can be a bit overwhelming and confusing jumping on a large mission online the first time before checking some things out. Ofcourse sometimes plunging into the mess straight away will force you into learning - the hardcore way. :) Even better is to learn the brilliant mission editor wich you access from the menu in the game. Just to learn how to put out some units, vehicles and ammo boxes. That way you can test everything out in a calm environment. There are also some mission like target range wich let you access any weapon (even from installed addons) to test out on a shooting range. Check out www.armaholic.com everyday if you want to stay updated on released missions, addons and any news regarding ARMA. Basically everyday there are new missions and addons released for you to enjoy. Click the search tab up here and at armaholic to search for things you want. Like said here try reading through the sections and backtrack some pages here on the BIS Forum to get more information about the game. Many questions have been asked and answered already. cm. 10 Posted February 1, 2010 Seeing as your from australia, you should join our community at ausarma.org. Basically just a nice "bridge" for all the clans and pubs in the area to interact. We should be having a 50 player coop on in the next couple of weeks if you'd like to join us :)
Fudgeblood 10 Posted February 1, 2010 We should be having a 50 player coop on in the next couple of weeks if you'd like to join us :) Ooh, can I join? :DAnd as for OP, just play around with the editor some. Spawn some empty vehicles, some ammo crates and just go play around with some of the toys to get used to everything.
walker 0 Posted February 1, 2010 (edited) Hi Panthro Welcome to the community: Start here: http://community.bistudio.com/wiki/ArmA_II_Hints_and_Tips ArmA II is not like other games it does not stroke your ego. To begin with you will die a lot; this is to be expected but one day you will find your self hunting T90's with a group of friends like stone age man hunting mammoths. The learning curve is a steep slope built on your own dead bodies and each will in turns smash and frustrate you with their and your stupidity; as well as hilarity. Fear and death will become your friends, like hiding for literaly hours in a bush while an armored behemoth, that knows you are somewhere in that field, plays squash the likely bush; but there a moments in this game when its beauty will haunt you. The ArmA triumvirate. Key things to know: 1) The editor is the place to learn and is probably the greatest things about ArmA as it is the source of thousands upon thousands of new user created content. People have played this game engine for a decade there is not another game that can claim that. 2) The next big thing is MODs no other game even approaches the Game engine for modability, there are thousands of addons the key one you will need is ACE. And ArmA has a suite of tools for making mods the likes of which no other game can boast. Have a look at the Addons and Mods Complete as well as ArmA II editing section of this forum and do not forget that BIS Wiki http://community.bistudio.com/wiki/Main_Page there are also several Mod web sites and news forums: 3) Multiplayer is the final part of the ArmA triumvirate. There is an introductory manual linked on this page of the Forum: http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?t=93078 I suggest you down load Yoma's addon Synchroniser. It will take most of the geek work out of insuring you have the right addons and that are up to date. http://dev-heaven.net/projects/list_files/yoma-addonsync2009 Do not expect DM and CTF they exist and there are masses of PvP missions of those types but unlike other games ArmA is not limited to them, so it tends to get swamped in the mass of other game types. The easiest way to find specific game types is to join a community that specialises in that game mode. This section of the forum deals with finding a community of like minded people to play with: http://forums.bistudio.com/forumdisplay.php?f=90 But all of us have been homeless ronin at times and just wonder the open public servers. Be aware much of the ArmA community is hidden and locked there are several big communities that do not show up on the Game Spy Browser though most such communities run a public recruiting server as well; those that do not will just run a single server which they may well lock and password on community nights. This thread deals with some of the many different MP questions people have: http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?t=79628 Because of ArmA's mission editor and modability peoples imaginations have run riot, most everything you can imagine has or is being created in ArmA. This can be a bit daunting at times but if you can think of something new, that ArmA needs there is an experienced community that can help you realise your dream. Once again welcome to the ArmA community. Kind Regards walker Edited February 9, 2010 by walker

Panthro 10 Posted February 2, 2010 yes I hope it does I only have a AMD2 x2 core @ 2.6ghz 2g ram and a HD4850 anyone know if this is enough? I'm running the boot camp in 1080p full so far:yay: I'm a bit of a AH64 fan and am often told I'm the best in it in DC but of course in DC there is very little resemblance to real life physics and you can be amazingly aggressive with the hellfire and hydra. :D (anyway enough boasting, I'll go try landing with out rolling it now)
Snots 0 Posted February 2, 2010 1080p ? ... you probably need a 22" lcd @ 1680x1050 for your setup. I use a 22" and replaced a 24" which was too big in my book.. Anyway just adjust your settings/viewdistance and run the ArmA benchmark in SP Scenarios to find what youre happy with. ---------- Post added at 04:35 PM ---------- Previous post was at 04:29 PM ---------- I can tell you are going to become very popular In the Arma 2 community :) If he's into teamwork for fun, he'll be right. Richie, big fan of your vids, thanks. Better then TV
Panthro 10 Posted February 2, 2010 (edited) well almost through boot camp. the wiki helped me alot. game seems to have its bugs. mostly in boot camp as far as I can see. had a crack at an online server (that was empty) drove a bit to an objective got bombed by a frogfoot managed to bail and get away then evaded a Hind in some trees ....then got killed by some inf I didnt even see.:butbut: I can see I will get familiar with the last part before I get it  trying view distance settings, 1440*900 seems to be best rez so far. Got me a 22' display and yes I'm def into team work its what has won games against much better players in DC BF2 and COD4. I'd say if a team can work well together it's more effective than a bunch of heroes trying to be Rambo Edited February 2, 2010 by Panthro
Herbal Influence 10 Posted February 2, 2010 yes I hope it does I only have a AMD2 x2 core @ 2.6ghz 2g ram and a HD4850anyone know if this is enough?
