CRC Error whilst installing

Recommended Posts

I had the game installed, and was trying to install patch 1.05, but i had numerous errors whilst installing that, got the patch from armaholic and armed assault, just to make sure the file wasnt corrupt.

After it not installing, i decided to do a fresh install. And now when i do this i get the CRC file copy bullcrap.

Im on w7 64bit, I've had the game installed before, Nothings changed hardware wise.

Can someone people give me some ideas on this?

Edit :After leaving it for a night, and trying again, i finally got arma to install, without any problems, i literally, did nothing different, other than, not doing anything else on the pc, other than the installation, I ran the game, upto the menu, exited and went to install the 1.03 patch, Where it epically failed, with this :-

Please be patient. This update may appear to take a long time to complete. It is updating and installing very large data.

ArmA 2 patch 1.03 has been applied successfully.

Ive just read quite a few threads on problems with patching and many people have this problem, yet i failed to see one where a dev came up with an idea to the solution, Maybe this because they dont know, or maybe because they are only interested in helping people who have no problems (should of been called a miniscule campaign, and an Apache? WHY?)

Why do i have to rely on support from other users who've exhasted their paitence with attemping to make the best of what appears 2nd time round for me, a buggy as hell peice of s.. oftware.

Yes this software was fine for me, No problems, other than the odd receiving bug in 1.04

CRY FOR HELP< DEVS PLEASE FIND OUT WHY MINE AND SO MANY OTHER 'PURCHASERS' OF THE GAME HAVE THIS PATCHING ISSUE

After playing the game a bit, i run the install for patch 1.03 again, which should at least try and update some things in which it failed to earlier, but it didnt, just said it was already installed, so i move on to patch 1.04 and i get this error message

Please be patient. This update may appear to take a long time to complete. It is updating and installing very large data.

I chose not to install the balleye thing, Surely thats only needed for server side if not, then i guess its there because of a 'huge' security flaw whilst playing ArmA 2 online.

Can someone tell me if by playing the game, Is it going to work to its fullest and greatest, which i know it can be? or am i bugged for life?

I blow up my whole Arma 2 with installing the patch. The problem I guess has been a previous edited tracked.pbo.

Now I can't install Arma 2 again because of a CRC error while installing. I really don't know what to do now :(.

I only got the buildings2 error. installing this patch to the steam version. I told it to retry and it just showed that error in the details box, but the patch continued to install and said updated sucessfully.

I'm going to run the game and see what happens anyway. I'll report back what happens. If I have to redownload the game from steam again I'm going to be pissed. (3rd time)

The xdelta errors mean that the patch checked the files and they didn't match the checksum.

Basically this means that either the patch is corrupt, or more likely, your installation is corrupt. If the files are slightly different to the actual installation then it'll be seen as corrupt and you'll have these issues.

I would suggest uninstalling and reinstalling, downloading the 1.5 patch from a different location (not a torrent, I've never had a good patch off a torrent) and try installing that. If that doesn't work for you then try copying the files off the DVD then install (the bad install is usually caused by a bad DVD read), if that fails, then borrow a friends DVD reader and install off that. If that fails, your DVD may be damaged, ask for a replacement.

I have re-installed arma, i got errors on the 1.03 patch, (got from armaholic) and got an error on the 1.04patch(also gotten off armaholic) and had errors on the 1.05 patch, also DL'd from armaholic.

Got the patch from fileshack. I dont have any special mods or anything.

The game is completely stock other than the previous patches. If anything got corrupted it was caused by any previous patches.

So I'm going to blame it on poor patching preperation. Never had to reinstall a game just to apply a patch. This is rediculous.

One more patch and I'm uninstalling for good,

Why nobody official try to fix this error or atleast report on this.... They fixed the Eagle WingCampaign.. They said it was Game Braking... Now atleast they still could play the game... I'm now on hold since the patch came out. Reinstalling the Steam version doesn't work.. Nothing i tried worked. But the weird thing is that other people that are not running win 7 64 can apply the patch wih no problem. (P.S. i did not overclock my pc yet)

Maybe it would help if those of you with the problem gave some detailed system specs. If this can be linked to certain hardware then we have some progress.

Either your install is corrupt, your HDD is (use scandisk - scan for corrupt sectors),

your RAM is faulty (use memtest86 to verify) or the patch is corrupted (normally

related to point 2 or 3) listed.

You can install 1.0 to 1.05 straight.

You can make an image of the a2 DVD with nero, load it with daemon tools and install it

from HDD (vs from DVD straight).

NO it is NO game flaw. It is YOUR computer.

Yeah thats maybe a smart thing to do :):

My Specs:

-Windows 7 64 bits

-Intel Core I7 860 2.80 GHz, 2.5 GT/s

-4GB PC3-10666, 1333 MHz

-Nvidea Geforce 9800GTX+

-400GB Free HDD space

My ARMA2 version is a Steam version.

What i allready did:

-Reinstalled ARMA2

-Ran the patch as Administrator

-Disabled all non essential background programs

-Downloaded the patch from different mirrors

-Retry'd and ignored all errors (The patch will than install but ARMA2 becomes highly unstable, textures will be missing and extreme frame rate drops when flying above the coast towns)

-Had to totally reinstall again

-Tried patching again and same erros occured. Aborted the patch.

-Remarkable: Other people installing the Patch with windows XP and ARMA2 Steam version have no problem at all.

Errors (But not alway's the same errors):

Update 1.04-1.05\ADDONS\A10.PBO.UPD cannot be applied, error xdelta3 returned error code: 1

Update 1.04-1.05\ADDONS\AIR2.PBO.UPD cannot be applied, error xdelta3 returned error code: 1

Dude its probably not my computer... i am dealing with this stuff since OFP1 and many different games. I learned to install alot of things that where even more diffecult. But i find it strange that i can't even manage to install this patch.

You say RAM faulthy, HDD corrupted sectors... If thats true than i had way more problems with my computer than only a patch. So please don't try to find solutions if you don't even know what you'r talking about.

And if you readed my previous posts you can see i have the STEAM version so no patching from 1.01 to 1.05 straight. Can't make a ISO either of it.. (atleast not to my knowledge).

I suspect its windows 7 if its 64 bits related i don't know. But 1 thing i know is that people with the Steam version and Windows XP as their OS don't have any problems installing the patch.

Yes ... observation beats technological understanding what is going. Right.

Like explained to you before in the post, patch does calculate an unique hash for each

of your files and compares them to what must be there.

It tells your files got changed for whatever reason.

There is only two possibilities. The hash is computed wrong or your files are changed

(aka corrupted).

I totally know whats going on dude... But i don't know why. Cause as i told in my previous post i did total reinstall... So Windows 7 must corrpupt the files somewhere.

And PS don't be degrading to people like they don't know sh*t. And yes I readed your post before so you don't need to explain that twice to me.

Don't tell things i allready know..

OS: Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit (build 7600)

Mobo: Asus P5Q

CPU: Q9650 (stepped) @4.0ghz

Ram: 4gh 800mhz ram

2x 250gb HDDS

GTX260

From my little research over the last few days, a CRC failure is a Cyclic Redundancy Check.

Which according to wiki, Is a hullovalota crap that i dont understand to well (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cyclic_redundancy_check) but my clan friend told me to do this... My Computer, Right click on your HDD, Go to properties, Click tools, And then check disk, Tick both boxes and force unmount(this is fine for a 2ndary HDD, havent tried it on HDD with os installed. This is meant to scan the entire disk for any bad packets/portions/sectors/areas of shit. And hopefully fix it, But it can take a while.

Merry Effin Christmas, Dont mean to offend if you dont believe in commercialisation :-)

EDIT: KJU, In overclocking an fsb past the 400mhz barrier, when your ram is 800mhz.. or 400mhz fsb rating, Would this cause the ram to be faulty ? (my fsb is 444)

I remember a guy who had the same problem with ArmA. Turned out he had a faulty hard drive cable.

I have a solution, Well on my end.

My ram is rated at 800mhz, divide that by 2 and it gives you a theoretical maximum FSB rating of 400mhz.

I had changed my fsb to over 400mhz, I've just dropped it down to 398mhz and tried to replicate the CRC error whilst extracting .rar files (Clan mod folder) and i dont get the error anymore.

its the only thing ive done to 'see if it works' and it did, so i can only presume that overclocking, has messed everything up

<bangs head against wall 'arggg always run prime you freaking idiot!!'>

Ok... i installed the patch on a friends system with exactly the same specs as i have. I even copy'd my supposed corrupted files into his folder. The only difference is that he is running windows xp on his system 32 bits and no windows 7 64 bits... Could it be windows 7 or because it's 64 bits...

Can somebody verify with a windows 7 32 bits that he can or can not install the patch with it. " STEAM VERSION" a disc version seems to work alway's after a total reinstall (but not sure).

My Specs:

-Windows 7 64 bits

-Intel Core I7 860 2.80 GHz, 2.5 GT/s

-4GB PC3-10666, 1333 MHz

-Nvidea Geforce 9800GTX+

-400GB Free HDD space

Friends Specs:

-Windows xp 32 bits

-Intel Core I7 860 2.80 GHz, 2.5 GT/s

-4GB PC3-10666, 1333 MHz

-Nvidea Geforce 9800GTX+

-400GB Free HDD space

-And my " supposed" corrupted ARMA files.

I had everything running fine with the latest patch then I uninstalled it to put ArmA on a new eSATA and now I can't patch it. I get the same error messages.

So it may have something to do with the disk.

I am using XP 32

You can move the install files after the initial install location.

To be able to patch you only need to adapt the path in the registry.

no it's not, the patch installed fine for me, and ran fine for me. I put in a new processor (no overclock, nothing) I put it in, installed it with XP and errors down the line. It's not my machine.

All my diagnostics on my machine check out fine. This problem goes as far as I can tell back to 1.08 Arma1.

All the patch is supposed to do, is copy over some files. Nothing fancy. Nothing that a Zip file couldn't do. I'm uninstalling until they come up with something. Game ran fine before my cpu, it patched fine with old CPU, put in a new one, install an OS, downloaded, and patch. Patch blows up.

Ok i fixed the errors... But its the weirdest thing ever.

First i start with my specs. I have a intel i7 9800 GTX+ running Windows 7 64 bits with ARMA 2 on steam and 4GB internal mem.

You know i tried evrything what was suggested on these forums. Nothing helped. I was on the brink to reinstall the whole system. But before i wanted to do that i wanted to play some Rainbow Six vegas on STEAM.

STEAM told me there was a update ready for install (just normal STEAM UPDATE). I needed to restart steam to apply it. So i restart STEAM.

When it was about to load up STEAM crashed and winows gave me a error message.. i was like WTF is this. That night i tried evrything to get it to work. Again i was on the brink of reinstalling my whole system. Cause i didn't tought i never could got it to work.

I made a backup of my entire STEAM folder. Just did one last check if my corrupted STEAM worked in save mode like a friend suggested... And WTF... the corrupted STEAM worked in save mode. I was like yes... tried to update ARMA 1.05 patch... And it failed with the same errors (in save mode).

I go back to my normal windows mode and try to start corrupted STEAM, but that failed again. At that moment i tought some proces or program in the background caused steam to crash.

Than i accidently start up the backup version of STEAM (exact copy of the corrupted STEAM). And WTF.. it worked again. Updated normally evrything. Than i was like hmmm maybe the patch for ARMA2 will work now.

I verified the ARMA2 files, that where offcourse on the backup STEAM and let it download the files he could not verify. (I did this numoures times with the not working STEAM when it was still working, but never could get it to work like that).

After i verified the files so it was registered in the registry, i applied the patch and never got those error messages again.

So the fix for it was. Copy your entire STEAM folder to another location on your Hard drive verify your ARMA2 game files in that copy so the system knows it is on that location now. And than run patch 1.05 for ARMA2.. (don't reinstall STEAM entirely.)

I got it to work like this on accident.. hope it will work for you guy's.

Not really, it's unpacking the PBO's so that only the modified data are distributed. It'd be crazy big otherwise (hence why there is no Steam 1.05).
