Who has the worst army/forces in the world?

Recommended Posts

Hehe, while reading this i came up with a question.

Is the Belgian army any good?

I didn't see them in this post so i was pretty surprised, are they not posted here because they're "ok", or are they not posted here cuz nobody knows a damn thing about 'em?

Some information would be welcome smile.gif

Well, in our excersise in Norway they performed quite well - I think that they came in forth or fifth.

You can see some pictures from that excersise here:

I also met Belgian soldiers in Kosovo and they seemed ok. They were a bit too fond of paperwork - they had paperwork for everyting. If you wanted to eat in their mess hall - fill out form XXXXXX. - Can we borrow your toilet? - Sure fill out form YYYYY.. - Can you move that truck so that we can pass? - Sure fill out form ZZZZZZZ and so on. And their commanders were impossible to reach.

Otherwise they were quite ok.

For me it's either Indonesia or New Zealand

Indonesia has a dodgy airforce, rusted up old navy and an army who spend their weekends shooting and beating up Indonesian citizens who don't do what they say...one of their ex Generals (Wiranto), after letting loose the militia in East Timor, retired and released his own love song album *shudder*

New Zealand's only problem is it's airforce - which doesn't exist any more, seeing as they got rid of their A-4 Skyhawks and P-3 Orions (1/2 of them were based in Australia anyway smile.gif ). Apart from that (I don't know much about their navy, but I think they're cutting it back somewhat), they've got some kickass soldiers (eg. the NZ SAS).

Australia's army itself is getting a bit bodgy...we're still deciding if we're getting anything at all to replace our Leopard 1 tanks, although some new Tiger's will help fix that...

They could win Matla though!!<span id='postcolor'>

Agree with NZ. No Air Force, laughable Navy, esp. for an island.

Even pirates could invade them now confused.gif

denoir , how were the frenchies ?

i must admit that we have the best military cooks of the world ....... but for the rest ......... maybe the engineers .......

i read earlier in this thread that we don't often hear about the GIGN , it's because they work only on the french territory and the biggest part of the time in "minor" interventions

the gign is one of the best intervention team in the world , one of the first and one of the most efficient

The French performed pretty ok on the excersise. They were lousy at protecting the airport which we siezed from them smile.gif

I can't remember what place they finally got in the competition, but I think it was ok.

In Kosovo the French excelled at fooling around with the local girls.. but that is no surprise smile.gif

They had some excellent APC drivers and they along with the Germans were the best engineers.

A very interesting thing is how the relation between the officers and the enlisted men are for different countries. The American soldiers and officers were always respectful to each other and were almost like equals. They ate the same thing, they would sleep under similar conditions and so on. The exact opposite were the British. The officers had their own mess hall, much better food and had a lot of more formal education then the enlisted men. They also looked down on the enlisted men, and the enlisted men really hated the officers...

The nicest soldiers that I met were the Russian ones. They were always very friendly and respected the locals. I still have some contact with a few Russian chopper pilots that I met down there - they were really the nicest guys you could ever meet.

The most rude and uncivilized were actually the Danish soldiers who really didn't respect anybody, were openly racists and so on.... bad expirence. Now I know that Danish people are in general not like that, but their soldiers in Kosovo certainly were.

We had several international exercises on a Divisional basis with some par taking troops from the Netherlands, Great Britain and US.

The first time i saw a soldier of the Netherland Army, my jaw almost dropped down, because quite some of them wore piggy tails...and they weren´t women, but guys biggrin.gif.

Apart from that we often sat together with them after an 8 hour schedule was due.

Not so much to say about the british, as they were located not directly in the operation central, but a bit further away operating either relais or (RIFU-MUX) directional radio vehicles.

The U.S. soldiers were the easiest folks around, they took everything slow and let the day be a day. As we had an simulated ABC alert, some of them were walking around without protection mask and poncho outside, on their way to the exersice range´s cantina. We almost laughed ourself to death under the masks as we saw their sergeant jogging after his crewmembers to get them back.

Another highlight was the Nijmegen 4x50Km march 1997, there dozens of military formations from all over the world amongst civillians are marching on 4 days. On the third day we passed an U.S. unit that was virtually falling apart- a female officer leading the formation was screaming at a giant walking in the first row to push and motivate him. That guy  looked like he could crush anything, but he seemed to have serious problems on the march as many others from his formation. You couldn´t recognise a normal military marching order or form anymore, i couldn´t describe it with anything less than a "mob" biggrin.gif.

To top that all there was a very smelly vapor surrounding them as we passed, i first thought someone out of our formation had puked, farted or something. But it wasn´t us, and what was smelling there was alcohol mixed with other unidentified vapors, those americans must have party really hard the night before. Crazy, if you think about that each march starts at 4 a.m. in summer, and when you get back you are busy caring for your feet, eating and drinking much water, to be fit the next day.

BTW ITALY

A friend of mine was a soldier at the German 'Gerbirgsjaeger' in Mittenwald. They regularily did international competitions with many other nations. Since they are considered as 'mountain-soldiers' they have competitions which have to do with Skiing (telemark) and stuff. The italians were disqualified, cause they did not use the original equipment (ski) but brought their own. And it wasnt hard to find out that they cheated cause all they did was to write 'Italian army' on top of what once said something like K2, Rossingol or Olin Mark! Must have been slightly embarrasing. But I guess they were even happy to return home earlier
