Freelook - Locking

Recommended Posts

I have searched and searched... I am beginning to think that I am very bad at internet searching... or could it be that I just hate it... I dont know.

What I do know is this.

I ALWAYS.... use freelook.. Always always always... but I have to keep toggling it and retoggling... and it really really annoying... I jump into the tank. The AI dudes jump in and start traversing gun barrels... I wiggle the mouse a bit accidentally and now my tank is smashing down the hill in the wrong direction because of the DAMNED freelook toggling back to "off"....

Need it fixed... I looked over the Player Profile Config file.... I looked for modds and scripts... Negatory..

Help please or game suggestion both good options

TrackIR (@ about $120.00) or FreeTrack(??) if you're handy with soldering might be a solution as it emulates free look by allowing you to move your head rather than the mouse to look around.

You can find info on these as both have their own forum post (search).

Personally I love my TrackIR for flying (ArmA2 and MS FSX) and wont leave the ground without it but for slogging and driving , I simply assigned free look to a mouse button and toggle it on when I want to look around and toggle it off which automatically centers my view forward over the sights.

Actually while I am here... I do have a game suggestion...

I love Zombie games. I love the Stalker series.... I love Armed Assault... ok now just get the prime elements from these games... the features the players rave on about...and squash them all together into the best game ever designed... it will address and cure the debate between realism and playability... it will cash in on the current Zombie craze and push the boundaries of the genre.... You see I love the sandbox thing... the freedom.. the editing and fun fun fun... thats the best thing isn't it.

SO now picture the zombies spawning in around you...(out of site)... as you and your mates online or in LAN frantically prepare the defences of your temperary base... count out your remaining ammo... plan the next leg of the journey... blast GUILT FREE head shots on the politically neutral undead horrors...

I if I possessed the godlike skills required to actually make a game would try to make a "On The Fly Map Edit/Morph engine" that allows the players to morph the terrain without the need of rediculous power for an all encompassing Physics monster nightmare...

So it like instantly (as possible) snapshots the map and resends the new map when player used lets say an excavator to dig a big scoop out of the dirt... all the players maps are instantly updated with the scooped terrain and the resource drain doesnt ever happen.. its genius I say.

(You cant shoot my idea down I am up there in my idea plane zooming along and technological restraints mean nothing to me here la dee la dee la)

Could even use the brand names to combine the francise and communities in a massive collaboration... Oh I do like my flights of fantasy... I have such good ideas .. and now its yours..

Thanks for reading if anyone did

I agree it's quite annoying, as you want mouse freelook to be on by default in vehicles (because who in his right mind drives/flies with the mouse?), but have it off by default when on foot. Should have definitely be a game option.

Actually I find using both the keyboard and the mouse to be more accurate than my joystick when flying - and even the keyboard can be too sensitive for small ajustments when driving so I use both for that too.
