  1. I like the new blend of old and new action menus in the same game... At first I was very angry because I could not control my men as in ARMA1 but after discovering the hiden menu in the good old style was very happy... What I would like is temporary overrides... as in GET IN THE GOD-DAMNED JEEP!! NOW NOW NOW forget those guys over there we have to go!... I hate that the most... how many time I have been killed because the AI refused to budge. Could just put in the quick menu as "HURRY" or "MOVE IT" I like the loadout idea would suit all those people who love dressing up their character just right. As in a game like Vegas 2 where half the game is dressing your man and chosing weapons and the game its self is kinda sad...

    Freelook - Locking

Actually while I am here... I do have a game suggestion... I love Zombie games. I love the Stalker series.... I love Armed Assault... ok now just get the prime elements from these games... the features the players rave on about...and squash them all together into the best game ever designed... it will address and cure the debate between realism and playability... it will cash in on the current Zombie craze and push the boundaries of the genre.... You see I love the sandbox thing... the freedom.. the editing and fun fun fun... thats the best thing isn't it. SO now picture the zombies spawning in around you...(out of site)... as you and your mates online or in LAN frantically prepare the defences of your temperary base... count out your remaining ammo... plan the next leg of the journey... blast GUILT FREE head shots on the politically neutral undead horrors... I if I possessed the godlike skills required to actually make a game would try to make a "On The Fly Map Edit/Morph engine" that allows the players to morph the terrain without the need of rediculous power for an all encompassing Physics monster nightmare... So it like instantly (as possible) snapshots the map and resends the new map when player used lets say an excavator to dig a big scoop out of the dirt... all the players maps are instantly updated with the scooped terrain and the resource drain doesnt ever happen.. its genius I say. (You cant shoot my idea down I am up there in my idea plane zooming along and technological restraints mean nothing to me here la dee la dee la) Could even use the brand names to combine the francise and communities in a massive collaboration... Oh I do like my flights of fantasy... I have such good ideas .. and now its yours.. Thanks for reading if anyone did
  3. I have searched and searched... I am beginning to think that I am very bad at internet searching... or could it be that I just hate it... I dont know. What I do know is this. I ALWAYS.... use freelook.. Always always always... but I have to keep toggling it and retoggling... and it really really annoying... I jump into the tank. The AI dudes jump in and start traversing gun barrels... I wiggle the mouse a bit accidentally and now my tank is smashing down the hill in the wrong direction because of the DAMNED freelook toggling back to "off".... Need it fixed... I looked over the Player Profile Config file.... I looked for modds and scripts... Negatory.. Help please or game suggestion both good options
  4. Does anyone else stop and think... at certain points when idling away the time playing at a war sim.... say at certain points when you might ... I dunno.. Fire your high powered high velocity assault rifle... at point blank range and put a few rounds through the head of a gunner or driver so you can take their place immediately... HANG ON!!... what are we saying here... I just climbed into a cabin that is totally splattered with a persons blood brain skull fragments... reminds me of the one time I shot a pilot out of an attack chopper in BF2 then skipped down and hopped into what would be the most disgusting thing...another example... tank running down victims... WHat I am saying is no one here really wants realism.. but we dont want arcade either. We want a "game" that forces us to think strategically... incorporates our creativity (modding and editing)... competetivity and gives us something to do with our mates... But man... we DO NOT WANT total realism and will never get it... I agree with both sides of this arguement and it should be considered over with good points on both sides and allowed to subside with my "colourful" and harrowing words echoing in our "ears"... THIS IS WAR that is a "game" lets not forget that war is hell... not a game. I'd like to see drivers and gunners begging for life and running away or hurling themselves to the ground... or leaping for their lives and grabbing at their sidearms... considering the amount fo rewriting required to answer this question the debate has been long winded wouldn't you all agree?
  5. hint "days and days of searching with out much success... 1 forum bitch and the next day results!!"; testflare = "F_40mm_White" createVehicle [getPos trig11 select 0, getPos trig11 select 1,240]; hint "Like A Magic Star Falling From The Heavens... And only 1 useless "Google it" response... I am actually kinda impressed"; :o Thanks guys... Seriously... I couldnt find the info in a reasonable amount of time per result... it was taking TOO LONG... These couple of links were far better than I found in Armaholics FAQ and nebie type threads... And actually when you are relying on a search engine as I was it is a hell of a lot harder... Given the massive boost these links have given me... (my mission is finished already...I Kinda like it actually....its a mad rampage against the clock due to a rebel attack having to be unleashed early because some stupid guy lit a fire and gave away the hide out. :D)Id say that those Threads need an overhaul... Hours of work instead of days and weeks. I am really looking forward to what else I can create after I get into the more challenging stuff. Thanks again. Signed "Happy Camper"
  6. Hello Everyone. I really like making new missions for myself and friends to play. One of the main reasons I love Armed Assault especially considering that the Game content is so low to begin with. I know how hard you all worked to make the campaign but I frankly did not buy this title for the campaign...I bought it for the massive open environment that I can edit to make my own fun with my friends. Anyway THE POINT OF THE THREAD... Why is it so damned hard to find information to do with mission editing? Where is the simple library of commands and syntax hosted by the Games developers? ALL I can find is a miazma of totally not helpful threads and posts meandering around all kinds of topics but none of them helpful... I think that the reason is that you guys all know what you are doing... you have been doing it a long time and half of you probably all know each other. Well anyway thats my gripe... I hate forums I always get flamed so not really concerned if someone out there doesnt like what I said and feels they MUST say something nasty at me... the TRUTH is that the info is almost impossible to find in a consice organised SINGLE LOCATION... I paid a fair bit of money for my Arma 2 Ticket... I want access to what I consider mine. All the game purchasers paid all the bills and if they arent kept happy then they will bleed away or the game quality will take a dive to suit the sheep people who are prepared to accept less than what they wanted.... I want my editing guide library I am not prepared to trawl forums for the info...becuase I generally cannot stand forums or the people that use them. So yeah good luck to you all. Thanks for an excellent game that has but this one complaint from me.... cant think of anything else that irritates me its all good... hmm except that the C-130 cannot taxi... at all and has no reverse thrust. Hey an idea! Just strikes me right now this very minute... Sell the guide.. I'd be happy to boost your coffers for the information I seek.
  7. *raises eyebrow.... walking in moving vehicles. Thats so...so...so... stupid  What are you goona do with the ability to wriggle around in your trucks cabin? ... oh the driver.. he does have pretty eyes.. you swing that way hey.??:o And I guess you are one of those up emselves self obessed uni grads that think that people who havent gone to uni are "uneducated".... no degree required to change a tire bozo  Change tire... hello every car has a spare and tools... I mean what the hell? Do you move from in front of your PC?... Seriously you have weirded me out... TIRE CHANGING... I have swapped cars engines.... no training... works perfectly. Ahh forums... where you can reach out into the world and be horrofied... by forum users... forum users are the reason I HATE forums. ---------- Post added at 12:59 AM ---------- Previous post was at 12:50 AM ---------- IDEA# I have friends who I showed Arma... they were shooting enthusiasts. And this is what I would do PRIMARILY if this was my game to develop and I am kicking myself for not remembering. WINDAGE!.. would only need to be calculated on certain weapons. Sure its been talked about many many times but I wanna go down as voting it primary feature for addition before I leave due to inability to tolerate forum... "dudes" Oh and the grenade mechanic in ARMA is dumb.. hope its better now.
  8. Well I bought Arma on a whim ... I saw videos of it online and thought... "Why don't I know about this game...it looks better than anything I have played.?" I played it and it was. FAR better than any other games out there... My gaming friends tell me that if I made a game it would be too realistic to be fun... but I have made missions for them to play and they enjoyed themselves A LOT  So what am I saying here. Arma nees publicity.. > YOU TUBE < and it is a military simulation.... gamers are trying to escape reality... you want their money you nned to help em get away ... look at the success of that tripe World of Warcraft. (Eve Online player talking)... So what are my ideas. Well you have already the slickest combat engine I have seen...except for TRACER FIRE OFF! cheesey weapon fire lines make my friends eyeballs twitch... modern players are used to complex animations of gore and weapon fire... so use that to create the escape while still catering for you hardcore military enthusiasts. IDEA #: TO build upon the terrific amount of detail in the game include to the game... player repairs to damaged vehicles...WHY? to deepen the immersion as a player can then fix up his jeep by changing the tire to continue awesome mission... IDEA#: ZOMBIE MOD... Zombies are the PERFECT enemy... you can gun them down all day and not feel even a tiny bit bad. Create a zombie spawn method that can have players planning their way through zombie territory counting their bullets (even for heavy weapons) as limitless zombies roam and respawn... they desperately seek fuel for their vehicles food for themselves water... complex damage models and rations anti zombi meds. Chop wood to make a fire.. in a suitable spot or freeze...then finally get to that chopper and escape like you team mate planned when he created the level. IDEA#: Warfare is Great! but almost every player I met in a warfare server bitched about the size of the map... shrink it a little for the babies...but keep the option for the grownups to battle over larger areas. IDEA#: The interface for the warfare base construction can be used to prepared defences... camoflaging.... digging tanks hull down.... tricks and traps.. piled up logs to roll down hills... bulldozed holes for tanks to crash into... fake woden tanks to absorb enemy fire... prepared smoke traps. the list is almost endless... and the more endless it is the the more the players will revel in their freesom to wreak all kinds of twisted havok:D
  9. Well after seeing BIOSHOCK rated at 10/10.... just ignore the fools... log into their sites and burn them for terrible reviews. I have my friends watching the game I am down for a copy.... Basically the multiplayer aspect has to ROCK!... and not be limited by consoles.... points at Left 4 Dead. The zombie mod for Arma was pure cool... although the military hardware available made the zombies a little out classed...

    AT Weapons-Whats wrong!?

I don't know about the Javelin but after a childhood spent reading any and all military books I could get my hands on I was disappointed to find even the light AT missiles were sufficient to knockout Main Battle Tanks with only a few hits... I had the 3D models with the different armour thinknesses running through my mind and... it was dissapointing to see the damage model so simplistic... :(

    ultra realistic mode

Anyone actually know how much time and work it takes an attack Choppers gunner to lock and launch? Speculation there... abounding  I think that the quest for realism should never stop as the fun of the game comes in for me in that.... when the bullet smashes through your avatars head or your vehicle errupts into flames you dan't actually die... :D

    Ai thread

The AI in ARMA I is very good. I am impressed by the chain of command and the flanking maneuvers and the good balance of AI accuracy in the different difficulty settings. I would very much like to really be living in FEAR of AI snipers who are able to engage at the SAME if not greater range of players as AI is usually all too easily defeated by out ranging them. I would like to point out the AI in "Stalker - Clear Sky" it is the best I have seen. They take cover hurl insults with their genades that are well placed and explode on impact. They actually back off and try to camp you... if under fire they hunker down and try to survive. This can be used against them I have had friendles forcing them into cover and then been able to snipe them from a flanking position. I have seen the work in teams... in particular a pair was using a LMG and Binoculars to spot me and waste me. They use surpressing fire and speculation fire. Urr the lights on their heads is pretty darn silly. Also in Stalker the animal AI has something to teach us for human AI. They have a "Strength in numbers" or "pack mentality" ability which makes the flee in face od superior forces or attack aggressivly when having the upper hand. Surrender I think would be a huge negative to play because i would hate to see the men gunned down remorselessly. This should only be iomplemented if murdering surrendering troops cause the player to fail missions. and disabled in multi player and replaced with attempts to flee then regrouping. ---------- Post added at 03:36 PM ---------- Previous post was at 02:25 PM ---------- BF2 should be used as an example of everything that a game like Arma is trying to avoid. The AI on those tiny maps is following VERY strict paths. They behave the same way each time and I would never use them as an example of good AI. Also they are in very limited numbers which saves CPU time. A lot of you don't know it but for each and every AI present CPU time is required also if online each and every AI needs collision detection running constantly and that eats up bandwidth and server time. So the major problem with AI is that it eats up enormous amounts of CPU time that most player will be wanting used on their own player and other players. Remember back in the days of Battlefield Vietnam when adding too many bots burned up all CPU time and lagged hell out your system ? :p The ambitious scope of a game like Arma is both the attraction and major problem. Once you take into consideration the enormous problem of running so much AI over such a large and complicated terrain you understand the actuality of the triumph that is Arma. Congratulations Bohemia Interactive and thanks very much.
  13. Another Aussie here who played on Australian and New Zealand servers. I admit I did have dificulty finding servers and help in that regard would be VERY much appreciated. We need more players... Conscript your friends!
  14. I have to say that I was almost universally impressed by the animations and mechanics of almost all ARMA I's features. I was very happy with restrictions placed on the user which forced the player to use foresight and plan the engagement. I have no idea how many times I played "Seize the Base". The weapon aiming method makes other games feel wooden and robotic. If there is anything I could contribute to this discussion it is to ask BI's devs to check out the weapon controls in "Stalker - Cleak Sky" The player has to use even more foresight to plan the engagement with the wrong choice of weapon costing him dearly. I think weapon change times must be higher rather than lower to encourage the requirement of planning and foresight. For example: Binoculars. These are gonna be useless pretty fast if not stored correctly you dont just flick em to the side use your side arm which just happened to be unclipped and cocked in a holster that just happened to be perfectly unobstructed. All that so you can get that unlikely headshot on the soldier who calmly planned your demise and should be rewarded for that rather than the insane run and gun to be found in ridiculous games such as BF2. Rather than discussing the quick draw speeds of various imaginary people I think what needs to be discussed is how YOU the player can use YOUR experience to gain victory.
  15. While I like the idea of AI driving perfectly I also like the idea of he unforseen traffic snarl. Possibly the experience of the unit could influence driving skill so that your squad of experienced commandos can dart in and out with not a hitch but the convoy of greens could become tangled and should avoid built up areas....I think that the AI in Arma I is sufficient and demanding super AI wont deliver it. These things are not done through more complaining... breakthroughs happen and progress is made with the hard work of programmers. If and when a breakthrough is made I believe the old "stupid" AI should be retained to represent real human error.
