It's not BIS's fault there's not 100,000 playing Arma2

Have you played any mainstream fps games online lately? Hearing someone say "noob" in a public game is very rare, and chances are that the noob deserved it by doing something counterproductive or otherwise idiotic. In fact hardly anyone says anything at least on PC side.

Been a few months since i stopped playing BF2 and yes there was "noob" calling in every game i played, been that way in all fps shooter games i have played. Usually these "noob" comments are said by people being shot, weird you have never experienced that before

Nah, it's because most popular games these days are the exact same game play. Just different buildings and skins. Hard to be a noob in a world of nubbed down shoot em up's :D

Ah well the answer is very simple: why is McDonalds more popular then properly cooked meals?

Why are hollywood blockbuster crap movies more popular then wellwritten original plotted much lower budget movies?

Because we live in a capitalistic "shove more products down your throat then you can handle", shitworld.

Don't worry though, resources will run out and we'll all suffer the consequences.

The problem is that when that happens the owners of McDonald's and the rest will have amassed enough wealth to get through it unscathed while everybody else eats fecal sandwich :(

It's very true though, most games and movies these days are disposable, 12h experiences that are instantly forgotten and thrown away to make room for the next. It's also why games are so "low". It's ok to read a book, watch a movie, or look at a painting, but gaming has this "cheap" thing attached to it as a medium, you can say thanks to the Wii and the army of disposable games for that :(

Gaming IS an art form, but too many people see it as a ca$h crop.

Also, bugs in the game itself put alot of people off, especially since it chews resources like a pig.

Better that than OFPDR, cause it looks like one.

I like Arma2 chewing ressources though I have not the best rig.

I like the outcome of this chewing.

It's brilliant.

And don't forget something:

Because of the community staying quite small for good reasons (complexity of game e.g.) you have the chance to meet a lot of people in a more interesting, more intense way: We need each other! ;-))

And another aspect:

IF (!) Arma2 or Arrowhead gets really successful in terms of selling numbers there will be the big danger of what I call "bored money" to come around the corner i.e. investors that like to buy an enterprise, hype its products with money they get from banks, produce a lot of hot air with fetish-glamour-sparkling marketing and ... after that ... leave the whitelicked bones behind them.

One day we will have frustrated our beloved BI developers so much by our steady critic ("BUG ! BUG !! Hanging with parachute in tree - how comes BI didn't patch THIS most important BUG BUG BUG !!) that they will give in to an investor who promise to give them 10 Mio. Dollars and just let him make ... not to mention the obligatory contract clause which steals the name ... the brains ... the community and guarantees the investor his profit within at most 3 years ... at that time we all will be happy to have our copies at home on dvd for our nice memories.
