DIRT 2 - DX9 vs DX11

Recommended Posts

Meh, the slight changes in gfx are pathetic.

All of this only for M$ to sell more OS´ and making console ports less work intensive. I hate it.

I'm sorry, but the last time I checked the 360's GPU was comparable to the Radeon 3k series and PS3's RSX is essentially Geforce 7800. Neither support DX11 (RSX only does DX9).

I'd give them a bit more credit with DX11 this time ;)

On top of that, don't we all know what kind of workers Codemasters are? Let's not judge the technology by one game that basically had it thrown in just for the PR effect 5 minutes before too late.

They make a screenshot very blurry and calls it "DirectX 9" then they make a screenshot that is not blurry and calls it "DirectX 11".

So i guess super sharp screenshot :

DirectX 12 !!

Well, DX10 and 11 is more a streamlining upgrade, they don't offer much new things as far that I can see. I still remember the deal with Crysis vista, were you could have great graphics with DX10 in Vista. The XP users could do a simple ini tweak to get most of the DX10 features in DX9.

So for the most part it runs smoother, that way one could up the older features somewhat to more crispier results with not much of a performance hit, relatively speaking.

Last but not least, the trend, better graphics and less challenging gameplay. I wish that most recources would be put into AI instead of all that fapping on cinematic gameplay experiences with 'I win' buttons.

Red Storm Rising FTW!!!!11!!! Loved that game. :)

RaXz: Totally agree on the 'I win' button issues. Turning video games into Vidiot games.

lol, wasn´t refering to them, CM is dead.

Obviously i was mislead by Shattered Horizon gfx, thinking it is cross platform because .. well look at the graphics. Now that im proven wrong it´s become even more confusing

Where will DX11 go? The visuals aren´t really that awesome imho, and what is keeping them from distributing it for XP & Vista aswell? There´s something fishy in this, maybe they´re paving the way for YBox580, the crucial hardware update for the time when either all xbox players have the ring of death or got their consoles disconnected from the interwebs becuz M$ saiz so.

WTF is with the DX9 shots being blurred and DX11 being sharp?

Anyway, Codemasters aren't the best when it comes to graphics.

The one main improvement I see with DX11 is tessellation. It has the potential to make a huge difference in graphics. Although we should have had it years ago, ATI cards have had the (unused) ability for years.

The one improvement I want to see with DX11 is optimization. Look how much performance can be cranked out of a console that uses technology that has long been surpassed. If we could get that level of optimization for the PC, just think about it.

as madmatt said, the only new thing about dx11 is RT tesselation. That can change the LODs (of A2 for instance) to 1 average poly model. The transition between will be smoth opposed to LOD switching for instance..

Everything else besides that....M$ shit as burns put it

dunno if this has been shown around here before
