Tex -USMC- 0 Posted April 1, 2002 Its an m203, and really the only way to figure the range is to eyeball it or memorize it
Guest Titanium Posted April 1, 2002 The M203 is hard to control, its mostly guess work. If you are on igh ground, you aim lower at a target, because of range/alt thing. If you are aiming on sokmething thats on high ground, aim very high. The grenade well reach the target up high. As for a plain level surface, you will learn to use it just by going into the mission editor and praciticing there. Evntually, you just know where to aim to hit what targets. Some extra practice could come by playing the "battlefields" single player mission. You start as a Grenadier, and you take out enemy infantry with it, play that to learn over level ground, use the mission editor to learn the ranges/alititudes. Its easy, just use it more often. WKK Gimbal 0 Posted April 1, 2002 And it's worth it! Nothing, I repeat nothing beats initiating a patrol ambush with a perfect grenade launch! It can take out almost a whole squad sometimes - then your MG'er can pick the leftovers
Assault (CAN) 1 Posted April 1, 2002 Well, its a bitch even to practice in the editor since you only have 3-4 rounds of 40mm grenades. Sure you can have an ammo crate but its a bitch to have to reload all the time. As discussed before the 40mm grenade is the about same size as an M-67 frag grenade but takes up twice the inventory room in OFP. All M-203's come with sighting units but there are none to be found in OFP.
EBass 0 Posted April 2, 2002 A good way to do it is to set up a mission with loads of commies with no ammo charging at u and u with an ammo crate next to u. U can blast away to ur hearts content
moerty 0 Posted April 2, 2002 use the mm-1, the ark of the grenade is about the same as the m203 and it carries more rounds. it's most effective at close quarters and taking out suspect bushes in mp.
SKULLS_Viper 0 Posted April 2, 2002 In the 1st ever demo of OFP there was a M203 site.I guess BIS didnt bother to add it in the full version cause you cant aim it lol.
deathguy 0 Posted April 2, 2002 Well, I think you can't aim with it in game cos in you can't aim with the real m203. Anyway, how would someone be able to aim with a weapon place were the m203 is place?

The standard sight on an M-203 is a flip up leaf sight that is good for fast area target aquisition. There is also a removeable side mounted ghost ring sight that is more accurate, but it only works for right handed people. (I'm a lefty.)
Die Alive 0 Posted April 2, 2002 Does anyone like the mortar round? I like it more than the M203 because it has a larger burst area and can take out soft targets such as trucks and jeeps. I don't know if the flight physics are the same for the mortar and grenade, I got to check it out tonight and see. -=Die Alive=-
Major Fubar 0 Posted April 2, 2002 I like the "mortar" too (aka irl rifle grenades), I think it might have a bit more range than the grenade launcher, and definitely packs a lot more punch. I said this ages ago, but never got around to it. I should make a training mission, with indirect fire weapons, plenty of ammo, and lots of targets to practice on. One tactic we found quite effective while playing co-op missions was to have someone with binocs call in your fire (long, short, left, right etc.), just like a real forward observer. On a slightly related topic, I wouls like to see an addon for automatic grenade launchers (tripod or vehicle mounted): Mk19 or M-179 for West and AGS-17 or AGS-30 for the East. walker 0 Posted April 2, 2002 What we realy need is a M224 60mm mortar team and indirec fire capabilities. The true team is 3 soldiers a. The squad leader FO (Forward Observer) b. The gunner operates the sight and aims and lays the mortar c. The ammunition bearer loads weapon But a good system would be to have a 12 man team of 4 mortars crewed by two people plus three local protection squad and FOs, plus one Officer FO this fits into The games 12 man setions and aproximates the fire power of the Mortar section of a heavy weapons platoon. You could make it as a vehicle addon but make its speed zero and make it man portable by adding and removing from the action menue. Other men carry spare rounds Or a three man team in a Hummer
