Handy Editor hint for newbies

Recommended Posts

Something I discovered whilst playing around with the editor is that often when you place a man in a position on the map and then check the man's position using the 'Preview' button, the editor doesn't always place the man exactly where you wanted him to be in-game.

I have found a simple solution to this problem. Instead of placing the man exactly where you want him to be on the map, place him in a location roughly 500 metres or more away from where you want him to be, then using the left mouse button drag him to the exact position you want him to be in.

Now when you check using the 'Preview' button the man will be precisely where he should be.

Sorry if this tip has already been discussed before but I found this method very useful and easy and thought it might come in handy for some people. :)

I'm guessing Hachiman is having problems with units being grouped together when you place them next to each other in the editor. The subordinate units will then start out in formation with the group leader instead of where you placed them.

Yes sometimes I find the grouping function can become a real pain, particularly for example if I want to place a man in a well covered position such as inside a narrow alley entrance or inside a gate entrance.

How to un-group units in the editor:

Press F2, click & hold left mouse button over a unit, drag the mouse somewhere where there are no units.

Voi'la. :)

Thanks Gekkibi, I didn't know it was possible to do that. I'll ask a moderator to remove this thread. :)

Also, if you need them to be in a group but start where you placed them - change "In formation" to "none" instead. This will make the AI run to their formation when you start, but if you only intend on using if for MP players, then your group wont start in formation. They will start where you put them :)
