ziiip 1 Posted October 24, 2009 Hey guys, I've noticed that the AI is very slow at detecting enemy at low range, let alone at large range. For example, I was in front of an enemy squad about 50 m away, with nothing blocking the sight. It took a good 10 secs to spot and engage me after I noticed them. At larger scale, sometimes a tank about 500 m away from a big fight, sitting on a hillside may not even respond to the mayhem. I'll post some vids but I think most of you know what I'm talking about. I've read someone saying he modded AI sensitivity back to pre-1.03 values. How can I do that?
todayskiller 10 Posted October 24, 2009 Agreed, Weither it is enemy AI, or my AI...they are all the same, really makes me mad. in the open they can't see anyone? but in trees AI are shooting all the time when I can hardly see them.

galzohar 31 Posted October 25, 2009 My testing indicates that in front the AI will not identify you as enemy (assuming you don't fire at all) beyond 175m during the day, ~95m during night with NV on and ~20m during night with no NV. From behind he will practically never see you, but keep in mind AI does slightly turn his head around randomly so he can still see you at some point. I seems to not matter how dark/bright of a night it is, either - could be full moon and clear so you see pretty much as good as day, and he will still not see you past 20m. Did you actually get up 50m in front of them during the day, or was it not in front of them or during night time?

AI sensitivity needs to be increased in the open, and possibly decreased in cluttered environments. (tbh i cant think of a specific instance where i felt the AI is too sensitive but what u say strikes a chord for some reason) hopefully this retro-patch will help some
Murklor 10 Posted October 25, 2009 And this is normal behaviour, not even counting AI glitches... I remember one time on an evo mission, I was nearly out of ammo for my machinegun. I rounded a corner and oh no, 4 AI soldiers! 2 prone and 2 standing up. I opened up one the guys standing and kill them, then had zero bullets left. Still 2 AI prone. In a panic move, I deployed an MG nest. I got in and uh... the AI was still laying there. I tried to shoot them but they where too close lol :p After like 3 minutes of me staring at them and them seemingly sleeping on the ground, they eventually stood up and was of course cut down in half a second. As a sidenote: Wasnt 1.04 supposed to fix the kill-AI-all-his-buddies-know-where-you-are issue? Cause I sure as hell hasnt noticed it. I pop like ONE round into an AI and then I die in seconds because everyone target me.
jw custom 56 Posted October 25, 2009 Things i find wrong/annoying with the AI: Running into AI like around a corner they seems unaware of your present and doesn't react for a really long time. AI is still too accurate with their first rounds at distance. AI still track you too precisely behind cover of vegitation which makes dense forest almost a no no to make missions in. When you shoot at AI they keep on shooting at your position even though you have proned behind a object and your AI mates are standing up in wide open 5m away from you. It's like the AI won't give up it's target unless fired upon by another unit. AI still attack armored vehicles with small arms. When ordering AI to attack vehiles it often takes half the war before they fire, when not ordering them they fire them rockets like kids eating candy. AI often enjoy themself switching back and forth between AT and riffle. All that said i think AI has improved a lot since 1.0 and i still really enjoy playing the game
maturin 12 Posted October 26, 2009 But if you fire a shot- hoo boy. My squad mate fired two smaw rounds from the woods at an unsuspecting BTR 500 meters distant, and they nailed him with their first cannon round.
CarlGustaffa 4 Posted October 26, 2009 Same here. Although it took a while, platoon of T90s open fire on me at 2000m when I opened up with the Javelin. The first arriving shot actually hit me, but was too weak to cause much damage. I could still hear lots of impacts around me, but nothing more would hit. The shot that hit might have been a lucky one. I stayed in the area not trying much to hide, and eventually they quit shooting at me.
Whiskey_Tango 10 Posted October 27, 2009 the ai can pull of some impressive shots though once shot in the open...urban areas i stay away from all corners until a squad mate engages...i swear once they see you they have some sort of xray vision through the building and no the exact moment and place your head will pop out from behind the corner

It seems more like that as soon as they've seen you the first time, they will react faster when they see you again, because they already "know about" you. , whether or not they've seen you before or not. yanquis 10 Posted October 28, 2009 ya there is also a HUGE problem with AI locking in on you and killing you as soon as you engage even from great distance. i made a mission editor where i led a spetsnaz team against a group of taliban in a small village, as soon as fired i was done for but if i did everything the same except not hit an enemy, i was fine. made no sense whatsoever & took me right out of the mission.
