Bugs

Recommended Posts

I bought ARMA 2 about a month ago.

Upgraded to the latest patch 1.04.

I am running a dual core 4GB Ram, WinXP Nvidia 8800 GTX system.

I am very impressed with the graphics contained in the game, but...

I must say that I am terribly disappointed and now feel as if I had been ripped off!

This game is riddled with bugs, some so bad that I have difficulty in envisioning them ever being fixed!

The AI (especially my troops) are incredibly poorly written and quite often do not obey my commands or act in unexpected fashion, only to the detriment of my enjoyment.

The campaign is so horribly written that I find it quite impossible to play. The UAV is quite frankly obtuse in design, and serves absolutely no purpose.

As much as it saddens me to do this, I have just about given up with this game, and only wish that there was a way to get a refund.

It is disappointing that Bohemia could release an unfinished product such as this, and expect loyalty from it's fans.

No this is the ArmA 2 forums, the game you're talking about is somewhere else.

Seriously though, my friends and I have never experienced ANY of these "game breaking" bugs, or even much bugs at all.

I find this difficult to believe, as most of my complaints have been outlined in this very forum... the difference is that I tend not to be as forgiving as others.

I also remember that many of these bugs were also present in Operation Flashpoint 1.

It was claimed that they would be addressed in future patches of his game as well, yet remain to this very day!

Ultimately, nothing changes, and us the loyal fan base keep falling for the okey doke :(

...and to think they have released an addon to the original game and ask that we buy this as well! despite the fact that the first release remains unfixed!! when will we get it? None of these corporations care about us. They only desire our money. It is the same everywhere, so what makes the gaming industry remain immune from this type of behavior?

as the saying goes, fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me!

So UAV is not as you expected, game must be broken.

So you can't manage to control you AI mates, thats obviously because game is broken.

We would make better traction in getting these abusive crooked corporations to do the right thing if, rather than justifying their bad behavior, we call them out for what they are doing badly.

There is no denying that there exist major bugs in their product. The only reason why it is released to the public is because this company wants to make money off of you and not because they want to see you smile.

and now they have released an addon for sale, no doubt with bugs, even though the first product is incomplete. Time and time again, I see this kind of thing occur, and we sit back and take it. Why??? are we that desperate?

Change comes by making change, and not by sitting back and doing nothing. Let us shake up the status quo and say we will not take it any more

I lost all respect for you and started laughing once I read this.

God I wish people would stop posting the same thread over and over. Download some user made stuff such as my campaign and have some fun. The funny thing about new buyers and Arma 2 is that they mostly play the campaign. If BI would have made a simple 10 mission campaign with straight forward objectives, most of the new buyers wouldn't be ranting about how much it is broken. So before you give up on this give if my campaign or some other grest user stuff a try.

Learn to control your squad. Once you know how they work, it's no problem.

Game runs fine on my little Athlon 4400+ with 4Gig Ram and XP. You're graphics card is a little dated though.

and the UAV? I've never used one. Can't respond to that. I only play multiplayer warfare and don't see any of the end of the world bugs you claim.

Seal Team Six was the BEST campaign I have played!

Sick1, you have made an outstanding product, and have single handedly out-shined Bohemias' abysmally terrible campaign.

I am not accusing you of making a poor product. Bohemia is entirely to blame for this. It is amazing that I enjoyed Seal Team Six as much as I did considering how poorly ARMA 2 was written. Bohemia should consider hiring you.

It is pathetic that the user, after having spent money on a product, must now rely on a third party to take time off to augment their product so as to enjoy it.

The behavior by corporations who do this is classified as fraudulent.

Yes, BI should have given a simplified campaign for new players, then they could move up to the full campaign. I've gone thru the campaign twice and working on a 3rd. I've never used the UAV. My AI seem to stay/fetch/fire/hide/sit/drive/board/heal/pick noes/ ect ect, as I ask.

So now we are at the point.... you don't like the campaing which is equal to game being useless, broken, bad and what not.....*sigh*

Maybe BIS should hire you to write their code for OA, i'm sure you'll take this game into new heights

Yes, BI should have given a simplified campaign for new

Hehe thats actually a good idea, a kiddie campaign :p

some examples...

AI runs out ahead getting killed when using danger or stealth.

AI does not follow my combat mode when in crouch... they remain standing

the list literally goes on and on and on...

Please stop legitimizing a bad product. These corporations will not change their ways if we as consumers do not apply pressure on them!

Why the ai don´t do what you are caommanding them... if you know how to use it, you can give them a lot of commands... try the complexcommand! Just first press backspace and then press F2,F3 etc for the soldier you want.... you will see there are a lot of option/commands.... watch my x-fire video...and see "how to" !

Weird cause i always have to wait for them which makes me put them on safe.

When i order my AI team to crouch they crouch.

Please stop legitimizing a bad product.

If it is such a bad product why are you still here?

Mmm... do you care to elaborate ?

yes the AI will do something strange every once and awhile which can cause you to reload a mission save. At the same time the AI is very flexible and does a lot of amazing things because of the way they are coded. AI is AI, it will never replace a human player. I'd rather have the current AI than one that is a pure mimic of my actions. I'd rather put up with a few brain dead moments as it enables a lot of very impressive ones as well.

When i order my AI team to crouch they crouch.

Try using the 'Keep Low' command while crouched instead of the 'stay crouched' command and you'll see what i mean

To Bohemias' utter shame, AI performance in the first release of OPF 1 far excels that in the latest version of ARMA 2 1.04!! This is certainly not something to tolerate or to be proud of in the least.

If it is such a bad product why are you still here?

I am still here because I paid for this product and should be allowed at the very least to outline my grievances to the development team with hopes that they can rectify the enumerable issues I am having. I spent 24 pounds for this CD, and should at least get an apology from Bohemia with assurances that they will try to ameliorate the problem. This would help to re-instill my faith in them as a legitimate corporation.

They have not done me a favor by producing this product, nor have I done them a favor in purchasing it. This was a business agreement where money was transferred, and should be respected as such.

As it stands right now, until I can be assured of acceptable changes in this corporations attitude towards it's loyal customer base, it is unlikely that I will support them in the future.

It is indeed a shame that despite the universality of the issues I have outlined, so few of you are willing to stand by my side in support of my argument.

You certainly didn't play OFP recently...i'm (still) playing and enjoying both games, i can assure you that AI is far better in ArmA2, much more surprising and less suicidal than in OFP, where the only "human reaction" was retreating when suffering too much loss.

One can still enjoy OFP AI because of its simplicity and, apart from vehicle pathfinding / no bridge crossing / no building handling, its "bug free" state. When modding AI in OFP, you still need to modify a lot the config (sensitivity, AI Fov or large formations) to be somehow surprised or "kind of" flanked by it.

I can tell the AI hasnt gotten any stupider, only smarter. AI might be bit dumb, but they get the job done. They mostly do what I tell em' to. There hasnt been any gamebreaking bugs for me, and I have played since release version.

Well how about you use the 'stay crouched' command instead of 'keep low', wouldn't that be easier.

Nobody is denying there's bugs in ArmA 2, some more annoying than others. I personally scream when AI absolutely have to step infront of my SMAW in same second i press fire, happened more than once. This doesn't make the game bad and unplayable.

Keep low follows your stance, but only between standing and going prone. If you want them to crouch, tell as such. Compare even this to the original OFP AI's behaviour it's miles ahead.

what does the manual say the 'keep low' command is supposed to do?

how does this actually work in reality?

this is one in numerous bugs this product has.

I'd say that's a mistranslation in the manual vs a bug to a command that has done the same action since OFP.

I fail to see how this represents how horrible the AI is as you claim.

Its nice to see how many here defend the game they purchased. But you guys should really not get so hung up on the "crouch command" as from how I see it is just a example (what ever if a good or bad one is a different question) regarding how the AI in the game works which definetly does not work like advertised or described.

Its a fact that Arma II was unfinished in many aspects and the campaign "unplayable" for many users when the game was released, a game you pay a "full price" for. And thats what gives every user who purchased the game a valid right to express his concerns in a forum.

I see many times people praise and applaud the developers of some game but its just fair to also raise the criticism.

There are many examples about how the game is either unfinished or not working correctly, even after a few patches. The AI seems still to be a source of many issues. Other examples would be the engine, which is not very well optimised or the use of vehicles which also ends in bugs and what not else.

No one is saying that a game has to be a "perfect" game. But seriously now Bohemia is not a company with few experience. Bohemia is not a company which just opened its doors yesterday. They have now released 3 comercial games, they have done simulations for the military (from what I have read). They really should by now know it better. Particularly when they want to make games.

I agree to an extent, but I feel the general complaint that the AI is horrible has no basis. Simple fact is that all AI is less desirable than a human player. I love tatical shooters and with every on released the same complaints about AI is made. No AI is ever going to work how people feel it should. I think BI has made a great effort in an AI that isn't predictible and atleast attempts real tatics. To say A2's AI is worse than OFP like the OP is just simply wrong. I much rather have an ambitious AI that a heavily scripted one that simply mimics me and requires my input for every little action. I still shake my head at it, but it's far ahead of anything else I've seen.
