BeerHunter 0 Posted August 23, 2009 I understand that the VON used to cause server crashes that was apparently supposed to be fixed in patch 1.02. Was it?
xeno 234 Posted August 23, 2009 No, still turned off. Nothing VON related mentioned in 1.03 or beta patches changelogs. I guess we will have to wait a long time for a fix :( Xeno
BeerHunter 0 Posted August 23, 2009 But I found this..( or maybe there are other "certain circumstances" they haven't gotten around to fixing yet) .... Patch : 1.02.58064 "VON no longer crashes the game in certain circumstances."
xeno 234 Posted August 23, 2009 Although mentioned in 1.02 changelog it still crashes clients. Xeno

xeno 234 Posted August 23, 2009 we have always ran VON on our server and can't say ever really had any major issues A lot of our members simply CTD when it is turned on. Turned off, no problems (beside the other CTDs :)) Xeno

tonedog12 2 Posted August 26, 2009 havent played much MP in A2 yet but il defo get round to it. question does voice comms work like it does in xbow games where all u have to have is a mic plugged in and u can speak to team members etc? or must an external program like team speak be used? The included ingame VOICE or VON is robust and very effective for Arma2. You can change channels to speak to you team, both teams, just your squad or to players in your immediate local area and just to those in the same vehicle. Many servers however turn this off and use 3rd party programs like Ventrilo or Teamspeak unfortunately. It would be great if all servers would use the ingame voice, so the experienced players can lead the regular, less experienced players. I find what happens when the clan who runs the server has a seperate voice program that they sometimes work together but the rest of the players who don't join that kind of do their own thing and the teamwork and communication is completely fractured. Some of us play with friends and already use Ventrilo to shoot the breeze, yell and carry on and laugh with each other and keep the game related talk to the ingame voice. Having a seperate third 3rd party program running for voice just is not an option and a bit redundant with such a good ingame system already there.
Inkompetent 0 Posted August 26, 2009 The included ingame VOICE or VON is robust and very effective for Arma2. This is the problem. At the moment it ain't. Since it can cause random CTDs for the clients in multiplayer many choose to run with it off until that issue is fixed by BIS. Other than that it is indeed a very nice feature with all different channels :)
dslyecxi 23 Posted August 26, 2009 we have always ran VON on our server and can't say ever really had any major issues The problem with VON is that having it on doesn't always manifest problems in obvious ways. It is definitely bugged (to the extent that CTDs or hard reboots are likely with it), but it isn't always obvious that VON itself is the cause of the issues. I've done testing with my own group, as well as recommended and seen the results of testing with two other groups, and the consensus from all was that VON causes issues, no doubt about it. I have confidence that BIS will get it sorted, though. Hopefully it can be a focus for 1.04. The sooner it's addressed, the better the overall MP environment will become because of it. koroush47 10 Posted August 26, 2009 VON is amazing, I'm surprised why so many servers insist on using shitty teamspeak and ventrillo.
