Some questions about ArmA 2

Recommended Posts

I am planning to buy ArmA 2 in a few days, but before I do that, I want to some questions answered

1) Are there invisible walls at the ends of the gameplay area? How does the game stop me from going over the game area limits?

2) Are the streetsigns written in cyrillic or latin alphabet, and is it possible to get lost?

3) This is the most important question of all.

I really don't enjoy playing missions. When I buy the game, I just want to take a car or a bike and travel around the countryside without getting shot, and maybe spawn a helicopter or a plane and fly around a bit. Is this possible? Or do I have to play missions all the time? Is there a mod that could remove all enemies? And can I just spawn a helicopter/plane/car with cheats?

If you answer, thanks in advance. ;)

1.) Nope, it doesn't limit you, you can just keep walking, driving, flying, swimming, etc.

2.) I don't remember on this one I don't use them too often.

3.) I don't know if you can just spawn a car in the missions that come with the game, unless you open them up and edit them but you can edit your own missions and just throw in a car or a helicopter or whatever. That is one of the best features of the game. Pretty much if you can think it, there is a way to do it in this game.

There is an algorithm that renders infinite terrain (which is not really interesting though as there are no objects or trees on it).

They are written in Cyrillic and if you don't have a map it is possible to get lost :)

...

There is a very powerful but simple to use editor that comes with the game (Singleplayer > Editor).

You can do almost everything you want with it, including placing yourself a car to just drive around.

Thank you very much. I think I'll buy this game and then just create a mission with no enemies and huge loads of planes and other cool stuff. :)

Oh.. And I appreciate if someone could take a few snapshots from the city/direction signs from this game. Don't ask why, I think they are just interesting :D

I apologize the double post, but I was thinking that is it possible to organize bombings (like in Mercenaries 2). Like, you could choose a target and a plane drops a bomb to that target. Is that possible? And.. Few minutes ago, I saw a YouTube video of about 50 C-130's crashing. Was that created with mission editor, was it part of a mission or was it created in multiplayer?

Here is the link to the video:

Well, actually...

Lol no, i'm just interested about public transportation, traffic, and stuff like that. Btw, I noticed that there are railroads in this game. But are there any trains?

There's some trains in the editor but if they can drive on the rails i doubt.

There are train models in game, but they can't drive :( It is an engine limitation. But in the editor you can place everything(!) and just drive around enjoying the beautiful nature of chernarus

Ok, thanks. Chernarus really looks beautiful. :3

Btw, have you guys played ArmA 2 so much that you don't get lost even though you don't have a map?

I still get lost most of the time, some areas look familiar when I come to them but especially when driving around I always end up somewhere far away from my intented destination. :)

In vehicles I tend to plot out the route on map with small colored icons then drive with the gps up. Remove markers once at destination. Works just as good on foot.

Thanks a lot! I'd appreciate if you could take pictures of those big blue direction signs at intersections, a sign indicating the distance to the nearest city and city sign of Elektrozavodsk.

Btw, ArmA 2 community seems really nice. At some game forums, some people just say ''GTFO NOOB'', but here, people have kindly answered my questions and given me snapshots I asked. I am downloading this game right now, but because of my slow internet connection, I'll be able to play it on sunday evening. Can't wait..

Thanks! I noticed an error in that blue sign. It says ''MCTA 3'', but shouldn't it read ''MYCTA''? I don't know a lot about cyrillic alphabet, but I do know that it's spelled incorrectly.

Thy cyrillic signs are not 100% cyrillic, IIRC it's more a mix of cyrillic and czech.

As for the nice community, well you will find such people as mentioned here too every here and then. ;)

I see.. Does that mean ''Chernorussian = Czech written with cyrillic alphabet''?

And it's nice that I haven't encontered that kind of people yet, and I hope I never will ;)

Hi and welcome to ArmAII. When you create your mission, just drop in the ambient civilians module, ambient civilian vehicles module and the ambient animals module to bring your world to life. You place these modules by using the F7 key in the editor and can just drop them anywhere on the map. No need to synch them to other units. Then just have fun driving or flying around exploring and seeing some Chernarussian life.

I see.. But how many modules do I have to drop to make the entire Chernarus come to life? Is one enough or do I have to place them like, every 500 meters?
