well with Magnum i actually mean a high-caliber revolver, you know. But there are multiple brands (Ruger, colt, etc) so I just call it Magnum (i think most people will know what i mean by it)

Listen up,boys...

I fired most common handguns already and I say stick to the Glock17 or the HK USP .45!

Those are the best!

The Deagle is craaaaaaap! ;-)

For the last f*cking time, pistols are not useless!!, we have already debated that to death. The fact is: REAL LIFE ARMIES USE THEM , so why not have them in OFP? Is that too much to ask?

Anyways, no Army I know of issues a Desert Eagle as a standard issue pistol (in ANY calibre). They are for to big and heavy to be of any real use.

I chose the 'other' option. I would like to see an FN Hi-Power 9mm in the game. They have been used since WWII and are still effective today. They are also used by alot of NATO countries, Canada included.

In OFP the Americans should use a mix of both the 9mm Beretta 92FS and the .45 Colt 1911A1. The Berettas were first issued in '85 and the Colt was still in use at the time. So that would make sense.

Give the Soviets the Makarov or Tokarov, or whatever they used back in '85.

Well to end the debate, In most games with handguns such as max payne(crap) nobody uses them becuase why bother if you have a automatic weapon.

WHat people say about changing magazines would happen very rarely and it would mean dropping rifle opening a pouch to get it. It would only be officers+tank and airmen and why would they use it if they have a rifle?

Pistols are meant to be a secondary weapon. They have them in most good FPS or simulations: H&D, Rainbow six series, and so on. Why NOT have them in OFP?

Airmen don't usually carry rifles. (Helicopter Pilots excluded) As has been discussed before...snipers, machine guners, special ops, vehicle crew and officers carry them. I see no reason whatsoever as to why pistols should be excluded from OFP. So what if some people think that they are useless, so is the Kozlice.

Well as I have descussed with many people over an over, the use of handguns in OFP would be of little help. But in the interests of realism, since BIS prides OFP on being a realistic soldier sim, I think pistols should be added.

They would become a standard part of pilot's load-out instead of the XM SMG and accompany the snipers rifle. They could also become a part of the commanders weaponry.

I think the choices are limited...I think a choice should be added that would allow you to select a weapon for the Russians and Americans. Which in my opinion should be the Colt 1911 for the Americans and the Makarov and Tokarov for the Russians.

i would chose the 1911A1 colt, it is a very effective and accuret wepon and easy to use. when shot in the chest chances for survival would not be high also the DE they come in calibers .440 col balt .50 AE 357 mag and another calliber which is a 44 the .440 col balt is a .50 AE necked down to a 44 but i feel that pistols would be very useful and would earn there right in the game. i am shure there was a time at least when some one ran out of ammo and was hiding in a bush some place and troops where on eather side of you and you had no where to go and all you could do is sit and wait and wait and wait and hope they would leave or not get spoted. thos are the times they would be benifical. that and clearing out citys

A police officer from Alabama I was talking to had once shot a woman in the mouth with a .45, she spat it back out and said "take that f*ckers" Her teeth had absorbed the energy from the bullet. wow.gif

Also, a cop in the States (I think it was L.A.) was shot several times in the face and body by a thug with an SKS (7.62x39 Russian) and lived to tell about it.

Just thought that would be interesting....

I'm compltetely with Assault (CAN) on this one.

Pistols would be more than welcome in OFP as far as I'm concerned.

1. Real life armies use them, and OFP is a realistic simulation of combat

2. They would be useful for indoor/close range combat, especially for snipers etc.

3. It could open up new mission possibilities (you have been taken prisoner/are behind enemy lines, and all you have is your pistol. You have to take out a soldier with a rfle if you want to survive).

As for type of pistol, Berretta 92 (M9) for the USA, Makarov for the USSR would be my preference.

I have already expressed my viewpoint on this topic. I think pistols should be added.

But there are problems associated with this. When you draw your pistol what is going to happen to your rifle?

Are you going to drop it? - The 'throw weapon' feature was aborted during development so the engine may not support that.

Is it going to be slung onto the shoulder with the strap? - But then you won't be able to run with a pistol.

There is also no animation for holding a pistol, although I think editing can bring the hands together, but then you'd look ridiculous running with both hands outstretched holding a handgun...just some thoughts...

Also, a quote from RedStorm, "erm...isn't a Desert Eagle AE .50 a gun by Magnum? So why do you have 'Magnum' as an option in your list? PLease specify the type of Magnum..."

Incorrect, the Desert Eagle is produced by 'Isreal Military Industries', Magnum is a type of chambering. Two of three types of the Desert Eagle have Magnum chamberings and use Magnum bullets. They are the DE .375 Magnum and the DE .44 Magnum. The DE .50 uses and Action Express chambering. But AntiPasta should be more clear and state an actual gun as oppose to having an option of a gun with Magnum chambering...

I agree with Jub-Jub, pistols should be added, if only for the sake of realism. They might not help a lot, but they might make a nice weapon if your in close quarters, like in one of the towns.

And as far as where you rifle would go when you pull out your pistol, I know some people have the slings set up so that the rifle will hang flush against your chest, so I think that might be a good way to go. The biggest problem with this would be getting the animation, but since we already have the shoulder weapon option, I don't think this avenue would be pursued.

The only other problem would be what Jub-Jub said: we don't have an animation for holding the pistol, so until good modelers and animators do this, it's not going to look good...

And even if the US and Russians don't use them in the game, the civvies in the town might have them, or the rebels might be on a tight budget, so they're using pistols, you never know.

Just my two cents.

erm... on IMI's website there is NOTHING on the Desert Eagle. On the Magnum Research International, there is plenty. MRI claims to produce the DE, and AFAIK IMI contacted MRI to design a bullet for the DE. Weird, considering the DE also fires .50 Magnum bullets AND .50 Action Express.

Btw It's on the NATO weapons list so it's probably use somewhere in an army

The Desert Eagle is made by IMI. If you want any proof find a picture of one (or a real one if you are fortunate/unfortunate enough) and look at the markings on the left hand side of the barrel. Note how it says 'DESERT EAGLE .375 (.40 or .50) MAGNUM (or ACTION EXPRESS) PISTOL. ISRAEL MILITARY INDUSTRIES.'

Another pistol with a Magnum chambering is the Coonan, which is made by Colt. Lots of revolvers have Magnum chamberings, for example the MR73 (Manurhin), Combat Magnum (Korth), Cadix (Astra), 357 Police (Astra), Comanche (Llama), Python (Colt), Kong Cobra (Colt), Anaconda (Colt), Security Six and Police Service Six (Sturm, Ruger and Co) and Models 29, 586, 629 and 686 (Smith and Western).

It says:

'Above Desert Eagle .50AE 6" titanium gold finish pistol is our current production finish shown with optional Hogue® rubber finger-groover grips (DEP821). FYI: We have upgraded the titanium gold finish from a matte finish (as shown throughout the website and in our 2001 catalog) to a polished finish (as shown above).'

Because this particular weapon is produced by Magnum Reseasrch. But it you look at the barrel you will still see that it is a IMI weapon, designed and made by IMI. It is the latest weapon with their technology and persumable this model is showing off their 'greatness' by sporting a lovely gold finish a la Magnum Research LTD.
