Can't complete insurgent main base

Recommended Posts

Hi, I've just installed the patch, and it seems to have solved most problems. I restarted the campaign and got as far as the operation manhattan (Whatever its called - the one with FOB manhattan).

I completed most of the missions, and now I'm on the insurgent main base. When I go there, near the dam, I sneak through the woods, get the radio call, and wait for the backup to get in position, then radio back.

Every time I attack now, I always get destroyed by either the T72 or machine gun nests.

I'm not sure whether it's a bug, or whether this is what's supposed to happen, but when the backup come it's just a few footsoldiers. I was expecting to hav tanks or gunships - how else are you supposed to take out the T72 and machine gun nests?

All I have is grenades, which do nothing against a tank.

Is there anywhere to pick up a javelin or rpgs? Everywhere I've look doesn't have them. I checked all over the base FOB manhattan and couldn't find any.

Can someone explain to me how to get past this mission? I've tried like 20 times.

Thanks

P.S. I'm on regular difficulty

I'm also in a similar situation. The only way I can think to complete this is to somehow kill an enemy AT soldier and use his AT weapon against both the T72 and APC. Of course this is extremely difficult in practice. The mission would be a whole lot easier if my fire support didn't magically disappear  .

I took a LAV-25 myself when going there and after the call they sent another LAV-25 with a few marines as backup.

Two LAV-25s are more than enough to waste the APC and the Tank. With only a single LAV-25 you can pull it off.

What I did was to fist draw some fire from the position where the reinforcements come from. This will make the Tank stay in camp usually, at least until you wasted the APC.

Then I swirled around to the road that leads to the open field leading into the camp. The APC will have spotted you way before you reach the clearing and will start to come to the road.

Use terrain to try to get a good aim and keep moving. Once he fires he can quickly finish you off, so stay moving trying to wack him with your LAV.

Once he is gone cautiously go to the clearing. I had the luck that the second LAV started to go via the road to the clearing as well so we both could fire at the tank.

After the tank is gone it's easy enough.

Oh and one other thing; the commander will flee if you don't get him immediately. Think about where you would go if you were him. ;)

The game isn't too good at giving hints, but if you're lucky you will run into a seperate encounter at the camp. They're tied.

This had me scratching my head till 5 this morning. What I did was

got the LAV-25 from FOB Manhattan and used that. There's a slight ridge which you can edge the gun around and get an angle on the tank that way. If you dump enough fire into it, it will catch fire and the crew will get out. Didn't even need that many rounds I don't think.

The BMP I'd dealt with earlier on it's own. Since it moves around it's not so difficult. I just called in the other team and shot the BMP up while it was occupied with their LAV-25.

Uhmm I destroyed the BMP with the rpg and now I'm luring the whole ChDKZ infantry out of the woods into the open field where my team is waiting in a nearby ambush position. The T-72 seems to be unmanned and does not move (yet). As of now I have played the mission for four hours.

But I still have not found the weapon smugglers.

Thanks for the replies. I managed to complete it now - the other team actually showed up and dealt with the tank, then I managed to clear the rest of the infantry. Just completed manhattan, and now I'm on too the next mission which I'm having some problems with too.

The T72 is easy to deal with, use your Marksman (Sykes)to snipe the T72 Gunner while he is 'turned out' with out him the tank is as good as a 40 ton paper weight.

I sniped him from the hill just north of the insurgents base (and just to the south-east of the dam) also used this vantage point to snipe all but three of the bases infantry.

Then Ran my squad back though the woods and attacked from the east to mop up, blew away the BMP with peek-a-boo from behind a tree with an RPG launcher, finnished the crippled T72 off with the same weapon,

Then it was just a case of killing the static machine gunners (they are oblivious your presents to when approached from behind) and the insurgent leader, the most trouble I got was from an AA specialist hiding in the grass.

Drove back home in one of their Urals, I tried to take the BMP (its unlocked) as it was not fully destroyed when the crew bailed out after my earlier rocket barrage from the woods - but sadly it was too low on fuel to make it to the nearest gas station

I was thinking I might have to 'borrow' the Fuel truck from the big Apple to go back to the camp to see if it is salvagable.

Although its pretty smashed, it could be handly for clearing out the last couple of outposts when i find them.

Anyone know if the T-72 is unlocked?

This part of the mission is a lot easier with artillery.

Oh, just a fun fact, the base can spawn in different places each time. I've found 2 possible locations in my playthroughs, but there may be more.

ARTY.

Theres a special ammo shot which detects and targets only armor and kills it. (Shot #6 in firing menu)

Most of the time the arty bugs out and it isn't usable.

You can also make use of the hellfires on the uav to take out the armor at the base. That's assuming the uav hasn't already crashed itself into the side of a hill while you weren't looking, which it often does.

I was happy when it crashed in my game, I got so sick an tired of my squad calling it out every 5 seconds

"CONTACT! .... UAV..... WAY... IN FRONT..... OF .. US!"

Almost shot the bloody thing down myself.

We need a - 'Geuss what? The local malitia dont posess Global hawk technology, now please STFU!' command - in Arma2.

After 1 hrs of tryings... i just came back to the base an picked up the Armored (one with heavy gun) APC, hided inside woods and killed T72 with 5 shots, after i cleaned infantry.

Keep in mind Heli transaport isn't useful everytime.

I found it easy to take out most of the heavy stuff at the main base.

Just wait until most of what you want is in a good position (close together on the Map view) and then call in an artilery strike.

This will take care of almost everything except for the machine gun nests and someone in the med tent.

Then just sneak around and pick the rest off.:)

Worked for me.

Cheers,

Luke.

Use the arty on the camp....

All you have to do after is drive your APC and kill the remaining soldiers... usually 4 or 5...

Then search for the body... (pick one of your guys, go to action menu and "search body").

I didn't even met Boomerang when I accomplished the mission.

As I've been stating in numerous threads, the UAV locking system is broken after 1.3... at least for the official missions.

After my squad managed to repeatedly get sniped while behind concealment, on a hill, a large distance from the camp; and were totally unable to return fire effectively against the 'daki running straight towards them, I got fed up of their inability to aim and decided to take matters into my own hands:

MY LAV was loaded up with goodies (Javelin, SMAWs, tons of ammo, etc etc) that I patiently ferried to and from the ammo stacks at Manhatten FOB. Under a hail of gunfire (from miles away, I swear in 1.03 my guys' firing range and alertness has been nerfed to hell) I got out of range of the main base, parked up behind a hill having "lost" the troops. Unpacked my goodies from the LAV (javelin, SMAWs, etc). Found a good position overlooking the infantry, called in Boomerang and immediately initiated a HE artillery strike on the infantry, waited until the first few rounds went off and fired my javelin (predictably, despite artillery striking all around, the AI troops still managed to spot exactly where we were and run straight at us), ran back to the LAV. Boomerang mopped up the last troops along with us in the LAV, the arty had taken out the APC, job was a good'un.

Was this a victory for smart tactics? No. I tried variations on this theme repeatedly, and no matter what tactics I used, I invariably got lazer-gun-sniped by enemy soldiers that were mere dots on the horizon while my useless "special ops" squadmates totally failed to return fire with any degree of efficacy.
