I upgraded my video card and lost performance???

Recommended Posts

So I used to have a nvidia 9600 gt, i decided to upgrade to a gtx 260.

With the 9600 i got anywhere between 25-35 fps.

With the gtx 260 i get 15-30 fps?

Why did i buy a better card and loose performance. This frustrates me.

I have good processor, good mobo and plenty of ram.

I have a gtx260 as well, OC'd, and I suffer from this game getting half the FPS of Crysis. Many people with gtx295's, even two of them, are reporting FPS under 30 as well. For some reason Arma 2 seems to have issues with the NVIDIA gtx2** series.

if all you did was change your card then thats very strange, especially for a better one. i have an ati4870 with the same issues so its not just nvidia. the driver makers often target specific games for increasing performance so worth watching out for driver developments

Funko we just have to wait for a patch , no way around it , i wouldnt start looking on these forums for fixes and what that deal with configuring many files if you arnt very computer savy like myself. We just got to wait and troll the hell out of the forums for revenge and hope they hate our trolling enough and put a damn patch out lol.

I have 2x 295 Co-op Hydro cards and i can barley play the game on High to Very High settings (i dont know what it is , but Nvidia or BI needs to get a patch out) but yeah man just wait i guess the only thing i know to do and troll. lol

Before you swap cards again... before you installed your new GTX 260, did you make sure to COMPLETELY uninstall the previous drivers before you installed the latest ones (also, I assume you downloaded the newest drivers from the nvidia website and did NOT use whatever was on the included drivers disk)? You can also look up a program called Driver Cleaner, it is supposed to wipe out every last trace of drivers just in case there is something left behind from the old ones that is causing a conflict with the new card.

If all else fails I would format your OS/drive and start from scratch. It may be a pain if you have all your data stored only on your OS drive, but it's worth it if you want to get the most out of your new card.

I very much doubt that will achieve anything except getting your thread locked.

All sound advice although I seriously doubt that it will help him. He has installed the dreaded 2XX series nvidia card which for reasons best known (or as yet unknown?) to BI does not currently seem to be compatible with arma2.

I run a 260 and have no problems. It is on winxp32 bit with 186.08 drivers.

Which is another bit of evidence going towards my theory that arma 2 doesn't like dx10 cards running in dx10 environments.

Until BI say something else I might keep adding to this theory...

Maybe it's the elephant ninjas?

...or martians?

Theres nothing wrong with my 285 its working great, i think the only problems seems to be with 295 cards, driver prob need to be updated for dual cards.

Make sure your Arma2 nVidia profile is set correctly. It could be that you were using one that worked ok and now that you re-installed new drivers with your new card the profile is different. I know if you tweak with the wrong settings in SLI you can get close to 10FPS as opposed to 30.
