GenghisKhan 10 Posted June 30, 2009 (edited) I am getting ridiculous FPS drops, tons of lag, and generally choppy gameplay... I have a: Q9550 @ 3.5Ghz 4Gb OCZ Blade GTX 260 Core 216 @ 700/1490/1080 XP 32 bit 1920x1080 Full version patch 1.02.5 I have most things set to high, Terrian to normal, vid mem on very high, postprocessing to low. I have turned physx off in Nvidia CP, I have done everything I can think of. Shouldnt my computer be able to handle this? I get an Avg of like 45 FPS in a field, and when I go into cities I get a ridiculous 15-20 FPS. This is all multiplayer btw. And I get a ridiculous amount of studdering when flying over large cities. And, when I zoom in with a scope, my FPS also drops dramatically. I cant understand this.. Is this normal? Does the game just need to be optimized? Not to mention the ridiculously slow loading textures. I love the gameplay, but I wish it just ran better. Whats going on? thanks. bonchie 39 Posted June 30, 2009 I run a Q9550 at 3.6, 4 gigs of 800 ram, and have a GTX 260 Core 216. It runs this game easily, in the most testing of areas.
GenghisKhan 10 Posted June 30, 2009 (edited) ^ what drivers are you on? and what resolution/settings? I am on 185 drivers and I have a clean copy of windows installed/reformatted a week ago. Edited June 30, 2009 by GenghisKhan

The Kentucky Kid 0 Posted July 1, 2009 cmon someone help me here.. please... Nothing you can do, you can defrag and whatnot until you go crazy, I won't do anything. Only BIS can fix it hopefully in a future patch.
mr_centipede 31 Posted July 1, 2009 is it only MP? how about SP? if it's only MP, maybe its the connection, try install latest driver for your network card, or maybe faulty cable if it happens in SP too, then I have no idea... my CPU is same as yours except i dont overclock, its at factory default 2.83ghz... i was advised not to OC because it might cause more damage than good
Nazul 10 Posted July 1, 2009 Dropping texture and object detail down to NORMAL made a huge difference. Im getting a smooth 30fps on my i7 gtx295 rig. im happy for now, patches will let me up the quality and fps later.
Bulldogs 10 Posted July 1, 2009 Random fps spikes, choppy play and such can be an overheating issue. Bare with me, even if your CPU has never overheated watch the temps anyway and try blow a room fan in the side of your com to see if it gets better. Some people (mainly people using quad cores or i7's) have claimed that even though they run most games with only 55 deg C on load, Arma 2 pushes the temps up to 90+ for them. ---------- Post added at 11:56 AM ---------- Previous post was at 11:55 AM ---------- Oh, and disable post processing, the motion blur in a dead area for me can make it spike from 70 to 30 when I turn. Its object detail, the higher it goes the more objects are draw and the higher their lod's are. Object detail is the setting that can make the diference betwean 10 lousy frames and 50/60, unfortunatly anything bellow high makes the game look bad (trees and houses). My CPU isnt overheating... I get like 50 under load... I have checked while playing Arma 2. As for object detail, I have tried every possible combo of settings. ^ If you are getting 30FPS on a i7 and a 295 then i dont feel so bad. 30 FPS seems LOW for your system.. Thats what I usually get. Bulldogs 10 Posted July 1, 2009 It go's hand in hand with view distance. Object detail increases the detail of close objects but the higher the settings the more distant objects that get fully rendered. I think this is based on a percentage of distance so if you have a high view distance and high object detail it'll be bad. Try lowering view distance when you increase object detail. rowdied 44 Posted July 1, 2009 ^ what drivers are you on? and what resolution/settings? I am on 185 drivers and I have a clean copy of windows installed/reformatted a week ago. Get rid of the 185 drivers. They are no good. Go for the new 186 or revert to the 182.50. I have a similar system but run a Q6600 @ 3.2 and run the newer drivers identical settings and get 30 -45fps multiplayer. I tried the 185's and found them lacking in performance. When I changed to the 186.18, the game ran better with less stuttering. I also ran drivercleaner pro etc... to clean out the older drivers. The game still needs more optimization which will come in 1.03 and later patches.
maturin 12 Posted July 1, 2009 I get this hand in hand with CTDs and bluescreen crashes. I also played the Counterattack scenario yesterday and over half the buildings and units in town were lacking their normal textures, instead clothed in hideous mile-away LoD, like the game didn't realize that I was in the town and not far overhead. It was like playing Empire Earth on low graphics. And performance sucked. What good could turning down Object Detail do if the game isn't even drawing the objects? I had sprites and blurry cutouts instead of vehicle models.
