Was a patch ever released for the demo?

Recommended Posts

I'm on the VERY verge of finally buying ArmA since my system can barely manage ArmA II at its most minimal settings.

I've played the ArmA demo before, and I remember that it left an impression that was poor enough that I said, "There's no way I'm funding an alpha build." I don't want that to be the "deal breaker" if it was substantially improved since then and elevated gameplay wise by amazing mods.

Now it's my understanding that mods cannot work with demos; is this true for ArmA's demo as well?

Also, I thought about installing the official patches for the whole game to see if they'd apply to the demo, but I noticed that the latest demo release is v.1.6 and the patches are numbered so that there is no 1.6-1.8 upgrade, so I highly doubt that it'd work.

Was there ever an unofficial patch released for the demo that would heighten my experience with ArmA enough that I'd want to buy it knowing that the mods would kick that title into the stratosphere?

Or...?

Thanks for input. It looks like my redownload of the demo has just finished. I think that I'll take it for a spin and keep my fingers crossed during my experiences.

Looking forward to your replies...

Kyle

The 1.15 and 1.16 Patches are still beta patches. (good ones!)

Official patch version is still 1.14

If I remember right, the Demo must be based on Build 1.05

The "ArmA Gold" version on DVD is Build 1.08

I'm not sure why you're so interested in the Arma Demo. Why not just buy Arma and enjoy it? Heck, I paid $3.50 for my copy.

And then you can enjoy not just the fantastic mods but the great missions as well that have been created by the user community.

I'm sure nothing, patches or mods, have any effect on the demo.

There is no patch for the demo. The Capture the flag mission is a laugh riot but there has been countless performance and gameplay improvements since that build. I would skip the demo and go straight to the retail version.

It's not said that A1 runs better than A2, esp. if you have a multicore system, as A1 only uses one processor.

raedor are you trying to say that arma II runs better then Arma and believe that that statement actually holds water in its current form?

I find that comment vague and misleading. Sure if he owns a quad core I7 cpu with the latest GPU he might or might not be able to load up ARMA II and have it run well. It really seems to be hit and miss. Do a 1 minute scan of ARMA II threads. SCARY........

I have done alot of reading on the forums and there is still alot of doubt that multi core really does anything accounable. Right now it sounds like glittery packaging until something firm is proven. I could be wrong, it has happened before and it will happen again. I have yet to test it myself and won't as I am taking a pass on the potential to be a paying Betatester for BIS. Look for your self and see what people are saying. It is split.

Kyle_K_ski, If your system just runs Arma II Demo then you should check the specs for ARMA. Chances are if your system is less then three years old you should be able to run ARMA and like the others before me have said. The moding community has produced some really excellent stuff.

Me personally I loaded up the Demo this weekened of Arma II and it ran smooth as silk but that was a controled BIS intro not the massive missions I play in ARMA. Thing is, I could find NOTHING that it did better then ARMA that made me go. WOW I HAVE TO HAVE THIS. I didn't. I tried. But with the Mods I am playing in ARMA I, I have to say it is everything I want right now. Sure the graphics are dated, but if I wanted Graphics I would play Crisys (so?) or some other FPS.

Big stop for me is the voice of the community communicating such negativity towards ARMA II. I am personally going to wait and see. ARMA ROCKS right now.

I am disappointed because I was ready to jump on board and give BIS some Cash. Well I will by the Gold version so hopfully they will still get a good heap of my doe to help fund a better game.

I'm lucky enough to have a pretty solid computer and I certainly don't experience ArmA 2 outperforming ArmA. I think ArmA 2 is very heavy on the graphics load and unfortunately only one of my quadfire gpus is available, whereas I could jimmy crossfire into working in ArmA. Certainly, if ArmA had the same level of post processing and visual bling as ArmA 2 does, perhaps ArmA would run rougher. Unfortunately, the CPU isn't always the bottleneck in every system.
