How's the trans-continental lag?

Recommended Posts

So I bought this game mainly to play it online. Since it's the kind of a team game, I'd like to only play it with other people who speak English.

The problem is that I live in East Asia, where no one speaks English (and games like Arma2 are much less popular here), which means I'll have to connect to Australian or West Coast US servers. If I do that, I will ping between 150 and 250m/s.

For Arma2, is this playable? There are some good Japanese servers in the demo, but no one talks on them really. If they do, their English is limited and they don't use the mic. The teamwork is really, really lacking. I guess it's the kind of game that needs knowledge of English in order to play.

Also, are there are a lot of good Aussie servers around? What about English-only servers in China, Korea or Japan?

I'm at work and the game was released here today. I'll be online the second I get home :)

Arma (2) isn't nearly as sensitive to pings as the more "twitchy" shooters out there. You should be alright with a couple of hundred ping, although it is far from the ideal situation.

I played arma 1 with an Aussie in the really early days, and he had a ping of 350 or so at most times, but managed to be quite effective nontheless.

150-250 ping is no problem at all. Sure - it makes things a little harder, but not even remotely as much harder as it would make things in wardrobe-sized twitch-shooters.
