microsoft paint muzzle flash noooo nooo noooo

Recommended Posts

I know this as already been posted.

What the hell? Amazing game. I was hoping arma2 would have an improved muzzle flash, i mean even the crapest of games as a decent muzzle flash, its one of the most important elements of the game. Id rarther have no muzzle flash at all than to see that splash of shite light up in my face. Id even prefer not to fire my gun at all,its terrible,it really does let the whole game down, its a joke. For a muzzle flash i would have expected something like farcry2 witha few sparks. thats what a real flash looks like. The night time fire fights are awesome in arma2. I dont understand how you can get a game so right and sooo fkin wrong at the same time. Is there a way i can remove this splash of paint from the end of my rifle? it totally annoys the hell out me. Also i cant see this flash during the day, is it even there in day time? How amazing this game would be with something a little more realistic that fits in with the rest of the game. Its like playing tennis with house bricks. just dosnt work. SORT IT OUT

it dosnt even change, its the same stupid image flashing up every time. Its like just a cheap hack job that was only meant to be there temp and youve forgot about it.

I believe muzzle flash hardly shows up during the day.

there's muzzle flash in daylight.. you just dont see it much. at night however... the flash really blinds you. I thought the muzzle flash hider suppose to make you see the target so the flash goes like 'X' instead of '+' so the flash wont hinder the center view (the target and sights)

Hi, the M4 & M16 muzzle flash have 6 peaks, just like the G36A, G3A4, CETME C and L and

many others, the main pourpouse of the muzzle break is to reduce the size of the flame

and as second and less noticeable pourpouse, stabilize the weapon removing some recoil

due to the gas going off the barrel, even on a MG3 you don't see the flash by the day, but

during the night... it's a spotlight. Each weapon should have a propper muzzle flash; the

M16A4s and M4-CAR or M4A1s should use the same muzzle flash, shared by the G36A and

the XM-8, the XM-8K should use a four spikes muzzle flash as well as the XM-8C, and the

AK-100 series should use the same one than the AK-74s, two side flames; only the AK47s

look alikes should use a round shape muzzle flash, the M14s have a five peaks muzzle flash

that the M1A SOCOM 14" and SOCOM 16" as well as the SOCOM-II have a different muzzle

flash. Each weapon should have a propper muzzle flash. Let's C ya

Muzzle flash being one of the most important features of the game? Get real.

The muzzle flash does a decent job on harrasing the shooter, especially at night, which is pretty realistic. It also locates your position better to your enemy, and I guess the increased size makes it easier to detect muzzle flashes at a distance despite our screens not having the same resolution as our eyes have in real world.

Laying supressive fire against muzzle flashes in the night, really adds ambience to the experience, expecially since it seems to have some sort of effect now as well.

Sparks due to burning powder? I wouldn't mind it I guess, but ACE tried it and it was eventually removed for not looking good I guess.

Only thing that really annoys me is the same image being used, no randomness whatsoever. I guess mods might fix this though eventually.

They must be aware of this as there is another longer thread about it.

Its really only at night they look bad.

IRL muzzle flash doesn't really harras the shooter... Often it'll even be out of your NV's LOS. Not to mention IRL it's usually much smaller than in game and definitely doesn't blind you like it does in game. The main effect of muzzle flash at night is making you look like a "small flashing dot" to your enemy, at least at long distances.

Yeah I totally agree. One of the cheesiest parts of an otherwise excellent game so far (barring the performance issues).

I don't understand how you can scrutinize each weapon to the last iota and then f*ck up something so readily visible as that.

Yeah night muzzle flash really are horrible. Quite odd with such an overall great looking game.

Blank rounds tend to have much bigger muzzle flashes than live rounds.

Good point Frederf, as blanks are what most people are used to seeing in television and in movies. In some cases pyrotechnically spiked propellents are used to make the flash even brighter or strobe more to one end of the color spectrum for 'dramatic effect' -- Go Jack Bauer!

Older and cheaper ammunition will also flash a little more then modern propellents which are carefully made to burn as completely and efficiently as possible, minimizing the amount of flash one sees with better ammunition...

The AA2 flash effects are pretty ugly, kind of surprised they let those slip by -- pretty easy to fix though...

:butbut:

Yet another thread on the same matter... Learn to search sometime. How hard can it be?

Obviously very hard.

Now that you mention it, muzzle flashes in movies are quite excessive compared to the ones I've seen when firing in real life. Significantly. I hope BIS at least changes the muzzle flashes to live ammo flashes rather than holywood flashes if they can't also make them look good.

And loose the ability to spot them from some distance? Maybe the 'up' part of the flash could be removed/minimized, I don't know. But being able to see them at a distance without extreme resolutions should also be a priority. If this is lost in order to make the flash look better from the shooter pov, it takes away too much of the tactical element.

Carl, the there can be a distance scaling feature on muzzle flashes, similar in a sense to LOD to make them behave and appear very realistic at all distances i.e. without having to make them Hollywooden/Arcade Magic Ranger huge up close to make them work at a distance. Your concern is vaild though.

:D

yes please sort it out, it is embarrassingly bad

if there isn't an official update to sort it out is it possible for mods to put in a new muzzle flash ?
