Darkside360 10 Posted June 22, 2009 As much as I enjoy the smell of a new game, if it comes out on the 30th in stores, but available on Steam on the 26th, I'm going with Steam. A manual really isn't important. Any info in there that you may need to know I am sure someone will post it or you can just as easily learn as you go. =Spetsnaz= 0 Posted June 22, 2009 Lol you're expecting VALVe to help with a non-VALVe game?Go ask the third party developer and reinstall the game. Jesus. See? You need logic. And to whoever said "its just 4 days"... I've been waiting for this game for an eternity. I can't wait any longer. Honestly, nobody has answered my question. It's so damn simple. Whoever has the game, go look at your manual. Is it long and colored? Tell me what it is. sorry i suggest you reread what you said, i full agree with blackhawkdown here

Wifout Teef 10 Posted June 22, 2009 sorry i suggest you reread what you said, i full agree with blackhawkdown here You need to think about what he was saying. He said steam is bad. It is not. He said VALVe has bad service because they do not have support for a game THAT ISNT EVEN THEIRS. Steam is pretty much the gamestop of the internet. (but its really good). You can't go into gamestop and say "this game stopped working on my computer" and expect them to help you. It's not their game. It is not their job to help you with that. The only time VALVe will help you with a game on steam not working is if it's their game. Like Team fortress 2.
Steakslim 1 Posted June 22, 2009 @Shinobi Wow dude calm down. The time it takes to download/preload is irrelevant from having the game available to download at anytime (so long as you have an internet connection to obtain it). Kids on this forum that impatient? Thats odd, I had a great connection to steam the day americas army 3 released. 3MB/s and no pauses or delays... But everyone has different experiences with the service, I have had absolutely no problems with steam in years. The last problem I can recall was the release of Hl2, but steam was in its infant stages then. I can fully recommend steam to anyone, at anytime. (At least in USA). Thirdup 0 Posted June 22, 2009 +1 for Nexway I was going to wait on a box, but I got to play all weekend instead. They sent the d/l link and the key within a minute of order. I used a d/l manager and had no issues with install.

Perosnally i view steam as a bad service, all ive had is trouble in the past and i hate having my games being tied to one account and having the cd key stuck to it. I prefer hard copies, but in my experience ive had nothing but trouble with steam..
Shinobi575 10 Posted June 22, 2009 oh dont get me wrong i use steam for all my other games, but really think about it, how many other people are going to be downloading a 10 Gig game at the same time as you? its gonna take ATLEAST 2 hours to download, and thats at about 5 meg download speed. ---------- Post added at 05:09 AM ---------- Previous post was at 05:08 AM ---------- @ShinobiWow dude calm down. =Spetsnaz= 0 Posted June 22, 2009 Troubles like? hackers, stealing accounts, and the fact steam auto updates and requires to be online to play the games you want to play.I have a whole list of negatives about steam than positives. Which is why i dislike it alot

=Spetsnaz= 0 Posted June 22, 2009 im going to wait another 2 weeks for my hardcopy from cdwow rather than jump onto steam or other digital download sites, yes its very tempting but i have to be patient

Which is why i dislike it alot hackers and stealing accounts can be stopped by being someone with an IQ above 90. Just don't be stupid. You don't have to be online for the single player games. Now can someone freaking tell me if the manual is good or not?

ofpfreak 0 Posted June 22, 2009 The boxed version is worth the extra two months for me. Ugh, Oceanic delay. Hopefully it's just a rumour.
Steakslim 1 Posted June 22, 2009 hackers, stealing accounts, and the fact steam auto updates and requires to be online to play the games you want to play.I have a whole list of negatives about steam than positives. Which is why i dislike it alot Hackers ingame, or the same one's stealing accounts? In game is beyond Valve's control outside of any games that do not support VAC, and that's really only Valve related games in general. If someone stole your account, then you did something you should not have. If in the event one managed to get your account by random: https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=2347-QDFN-4366 shows a simple proceedure for reclaiming it. You can run Steam games in offline mode, and yes, IT DOES work, as I can yank the connection to the internet right now and play any game I have on Steam (granted some are strictly MP, so I won't get too far with those aside from a menu and a browser). Be sure the game in question is fully installed and updated (to what ever update you last allowed). In other words, run the game before you plan to loose the internet conneciton to be sure the last update went through correctly. If you wish to stop the auto update, do so by right clicking on the game in your game's menu tab, go to the Updates submenu tab, and be sure "Do Not Automatically Update This Game" is selected in the drop down box, it's that simple. Now understand in some games, your game is autoupdated beyond Steam's consent, like Crysis Wars, where the game self updates via autodownloader within the game itself. I know you probably don't care about any of this since you seemed to of made up your mind, I'm just pointing out that the reasons you listed are usually misconceptions or misunderstandings regarding Steam. I really hope you're not talking to me because I said I could just go buy the game if the boxed copy is really that much better. No, I'm meaning people too busted to wait for a 9gig download, which is going to take a fair amount of time regardless of your connection. Fastest mine goes at any time is 250kbps, so yeah, I'm in no rush.
Windexglow 10 Posted June 22, 2009 I'd go with boxed. I don't have the game, but I believe someone said the manual is 75 pages. As for steam - I've purchased 2 games with it, and have had horrible experiance with both of them. The first one was fallout3 - While it worked without a problem at first, their patches lately have made fallout3 unplayable. Uninstall everything completely related to fallout3 - use steam to download. Steam auto-patches the game. I start game up - crashes instantly. However, if I use a pirated version of fallout3 (patched to current version) it does not crash. Thanks steam! The second game was Empire Total War. Downloading it was real fun! Average download speed: 20kbs Yes, a whopping 20kbs was the high I saw on it. And I had to watch it, as every 2-3 hours it would get stuck on "starting download" and I would have to restart steam. I had to babysit a 15gig game downloading at 20kbs. Like fallout3, I decided I'd be better off pirating it (getting 800kbs doing so) instead of using steam. Arma2 could cost $1 on steam for all I care. Hell, I've had a better experience using EA's downloader than I have with steam.

Surtr52 10 Posted June 22, 2009 If your download was 20kb/s, that was completely fixable. https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=9498-WPDF-3220 But anyway, this topic has kind of gotten off track
