Why does this game run bad with these specs?

Recommended Posts

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Sorry to say this, but this game runs terrible for me and I have what I would call a half decent computer. Most of my settings are on normal and at 25 fps I feel like I am running through treacle.

Another fault I have come across is in wooded areas, they are pitch black for me and no amount of adjustments to setting stops this. I have tried adjusting gamma and brightness, but this only results in outside of the forests been to bright.

The other faults I have ran into is the occasional freeze, I am currently trying to workout if this has anything to do with radio chatter, as this appears to happen when radio chatter kicks in.

May I also add that all my other games on this computer run very smooth and I have never had a crash to desktop yet.

Motherboard: Asus Crosshair

Graphics card: Geforce 260 GTX

Memory: 4GB

CPU: Amd Athlon 64 x2 3.21 GHz

SoundCard: Audigy Gamer

Wndows 7

BTW - I have also tested this on my vista 32 bit and it runs just as bad if not worse. I also have the 505 game with 1.01 patch already installed.

How do I make the screen size full at 1600 x 1200 or some other resolution. I am running windows 7, but whenever I lower the resolution in the game options, the game will nolonger play in full screen mode, it just changes to a small windows view. Thanks!!

Wait for 1.02 patch and we'll see if performance is optimised.

Merged the two threads together, doesn't require two separate threads to ask two questions.

Why wouldn't this require two separate threads? Normally when people are looking to help with a problem they look at the heading of a thread. Now it's a good chance my second question won't be answered, that is unless you are able to help me.

Probably because there is going to be a vast number of threads similar to this with the game in the current 'state'. I was hoping after Arma 1 we could have a more polished game but no...

Makes you wonder what all this time has been spent on fixing. The only improvements to the game I have seen so far are the cows and chickens...lol. I really thought this game was going to be spot on this time round.

I think there are some nvidia related problems at the moment. So we need a nvidia driver and hopefully patch my address some of these. Be patient for a couple of days and see how it goes with patch..

I would suggest however to turn down post processing (low), shadows (normal) and object detail (normal) and you may experience a few extra fps.

Also turning off the blur/hdr by using keygets mod will give you a few fps. I have given up on single player until the next patch

Thankyou for the input, but I have tried all of the above and it still plays terrible. And as for waiting on a nvida driver to fix this - Well lets just say, I won't be holding my breath for that one. Wasn't it the nvidia driver that was blamed for the countless problems of Armed Assault 1? At the end of the day, we really cannot keep blaming nvida and their drivers for this games problems - Most other games don't run into this problem time and time again, so I just don't buy into any comments that it's nvidias fault.

Why wouldn't this require two separate threads?

Because this is your troubleshooting thread, you must explain and address your issues in your one thread.

My specs - Core2Quad Q6600 oc'd to 3.0Ghz - 4Gb ddr2 Ram - Nvidia 295GTX oc'd - Nvidia drivers 185.85 - Windows Vista 32bit.

Settings at resolution 1920 x 1200 - everything High except shaders Normal - and something else set to Normal, can't think what.

In single player i'm getting between 28 - 40fps - mostly in the low 30's. In multiplayer i'm getting between 23 to 28fps. Mp is basically unplayable. I've tried changing the exe to crysis.exe and tried the -winxp in the shortcut - makes no difference.

Come on guys this is pretty bad. I should have learned after Arma 1, but i'm a sucker for pain - so i thought i'd buy Arma 2. Looks like absolutely nothing was learned from the poorly optimized launch of Arma 1. Do we really have to wait 9 - 12 months, before we get a half playable game?

If this isn't sorted out asap, this will definitely be the last game i purchase from these guys.

Resolution is the the number 1 performence hit IMO for this game.

Try lowering the res, it might look a tad fuzzy, but just try it.

I am not been funny here, but had I started a thread >Titled "Countless Issues here." Then I am not sure anyone would have even been bothered to read it. There is that many problems with this game still that it's difficult to know just one title to put on a thread.

I would love to lower resolution but that is the other problem I have, you may of missed it been in the same thread, but my screen shrinks to a window view when I lower my resolution. I am running windows 7 and need to know how I can increase the screen size.

Go back to the 182.50 drivers.

The latest ones are rubbish.

Try 182.50 and see what happens.

I have same issues with my GTX295, try this tho don't use crysis.exe use crysis64.exe

I have had game for almost 2 weeks and have done everything from trying 8 odd diff drivers to complete reinstall. (Win 7, Vista 64 Ult etc)

Win7 seemed to deliver good fps but had a stutter (Will check newer 232 build over weekend).

I did get the game running super smooth for about 2hrs. New install of Vista 64 Ultimate, 186.08 driver and ran with crysis64.exe + -winxp.

Now ith high/very high settings at 1920x1200 i was getting 58 odd fps avg. VERY nice. However when I checked out MP the game turn to shit, MP was back to the 30 fps.. And worst of all when I went into Single Player again the fps wouldn't get over 40.. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the game and same thing happened.

I am doing a reinstall of OS and game for the 3rd time, this time I will lock all the CFG files once I have them setup, I seriously think some of the MP mods may stuff up the 3d config on my card not sure.

Be patient, patch 1.02 is hopefully hours away. I have knocked my head against the wall as I am running a very high end system and getting the worst performance of any game I have run on this system by a long shot (i7 @ 4.2, GTX295, 6gb 1600mhz and Xfi Xgamer fatality)..

Basically something is causing the game to stop using SLi, i'll know soon when I finish the reinstall again...

That doesn't stop the windows view I get when I lower the resolution. Would someone please read my second question on this thread and answer it -Please and Thankyou!!

increase your refresh rate of your monitor in the arma.cfg. use a safe hz.

This is not a CRT Monitor I use and so doesn't use a refresh rate.

ok what is your LCD, and its native res. Does the OSD of your Panel have a expand option? maybe in the NVDA control panel, you can expand the screen. and or have centered timings? Tho i think win7 as it is now contols the display and your stuck.

Resolution is 1920x1200 and Nvida control panel will not expand it enough. Normally on other games there is a command line that you are able to add to the short cut properties, but I am not sure anyone will even see this post and give me the information I need - Since I have had to list all my problems in one topic.

ArmA1 took a long time to get "calibrated" for best FPS. Play and tweak things and play again. Im sure ARMA2 is the same.

For the FPS hogs like trees, some objects etc im sure BIS will up the performance in patches over the next couple of months.

I've Arma 2 running on both Vista 64 and Win 7 on the same hardware and it both runs equally good or bad.

I've been abtle to tweak my hardware and game settings (all high + normal detail + low terrain) so that i see my fps in the 40 to 60 range when doing Armory SP in an "empty world", where 40 fps is minimal in and around the forest. Strangely enough in some cases, both SP and MP i've seen odd performances, running between 27 and 30-32 fps no matter what settings i run.

These experiences were noticable on both OS installments, Vista 64 and Win7.

Crap about XP v Win7 deleted, the guy's asking for troubleshooting help, not to have a debate about XP v Win7, many people including myself run the game fine on Win7 so I don't see how his choice of OS is necessarily the cause of his problems.

If you do not have specific help/suggestions to offer then do not reply in troubleshooting threads, opinion and conjecture are not acceptable here, people want help, not debates.
