Will there be another 'Ask The Devs' Q&A venue before Armed Assault II is released in North America? There are a lot of questions that have been raised, that have yet to be answered, and this would (imtho) be another great opportunity for more ArmA II PR to show how uniquely responsive BI is to it's Audience, and depth their game design.

The last Twitter thing was, well 'ok' but a lot of people (me included) think Twitter is awkward, poorly designed, not worth registering on (even though I did just for ArmA II), and not a very good Q&A venue for a serious state-of-the-art game like ArmA II.

One alternative would be live moderated IRC release party; there's little to compare with live presence of a real opportunity to field questions to the Developers of your favorite franchise; and the transcript can be edited and re-purposed getting still more mileage out of the initiative when it's posted to the site as 'News' and/or forums... Just a thought (and hope), may your sales in North America be momentous!

Edit: Later in the thread Placebo gives us the 'go ahead' to start compiling a list of questions for our Hereo Celebrities at BI, here's the post template:

[b]Catagory:[/b] (examples) Tools, Features, Support, Engine, 
[b]Q:[/b] Your question here...

Just cut & past the text in the box and enter your catagory and question(s)... Feel free to post and ask as many questions as you like (except about the cookies, we're out)...

It's definitely something we'd like to do, and especially on the forums, but as with everything it's a case of finding the time and people to get it done when the people you want answers from are the people working 12-16x7 on the actual game, but we'll see what we can do :)

Thanks Placebo! That's as much as we can ask for all things considered, and as is usually the case with BI it means they'll do more then anyone else in market is doing.

lol nice pic. Anyway, cool to hear that you'll see what you guys can do. I only have Twitter for my live gaming feed, it sends out twitters when I go live. And it's crap.

Yea, I think it would be a very good idea to discuss upcoming stuff and reveal a bit of what is planned :)

Some info on tools would be welcome too.

Maybe in the interest of getting this warmed up, we could use this as a preliminary 'Ask The Devs' thread (with a Moderator's blessing)... Using a standard cut and paste template to make the questions easier to organize and navigate like:

[b]Catagory:[/b] (examples) Tools, Features, Support, Engine, 
[b]Q:[/b] Your question here...

You just cut and past what's in the code box and enter your catagory and questions so all the posts will look like this:

Catagory: Support

Q: Will BI continue to support and patch ArmA now that ArmA II is out?

Except that the BI fourms code boxes are broken and don't support BB Code, and we don't have the 'go ahead' from the bosses...

:)

BTW, the poll bunny is out of cookies, he brought you all a bunch, but he 'eated 'em all'...

Q: will kicking a player be easier? I hate when players named [[s1per@@__#(Ƽᕌᬾ缴]](\0/))] joins the game, Teamkills, and anyone wanting to votekick will have hard time typing that..

Some sort of system like some games got: Part of the name. In this case, writing "S1per" would be enough to launch votekick

Can't you also kick (vote to kick) using his number? At least I think it worked this way in Arma1. Was this removed?

Q: Will a documented list of all BIS_x.sqf scripts/functions be added to the BIS wiki ? Cause this would mean all scripters would operate on the same codebase and scripted missions would automaticly be updated via official patches. :)

This can simply be answered here, to kick a player hit P, look at the number by there name and type #kick player 1337 like that instead of typing there name

Q: Is it possible that a future release will allow for passing IP's to the dedicated server in Arma or Arma2? We currently have 20 ips and run multiple ArmA servers off the machine and dealing with all the ports gets tedious.

Q: Will BIS add support for the popular Freetrack headtracking software to Arma2 in a future patch?

eg: Will there be a new Texview for the new .paa compression? Will it be easier to create roads that the AI will follow in the new Visitor - if there is one?? Can we expect a basic mlod model or two to work with in the (near) future?

Q: There's been considerable community controversy over the current implementation of motion blur, fillrate, PostFX, etc, and the curious absence of more familiar features like AA... will these features be added/changed/made optional in a future patch? Could you give us some details??

Good plan Hoak!

Theres SO many questions, and, when/if we DO manage to pin a Dev or two down to ask some, its unlikely we're gonna have time to ask them all...

Some sort of Master List, or "top 10 or 20" might be a good idea... perhaps skip simple questions like "when's the next patch coming out?" to which they ALWAYS reply with "soon" or "when its ready"...

Apart from this and the Steam list, its fairly easy to spot the main topics people are concerned about, or would like to hear Dev opinion on.....

The same questions get asked over and over again on the forums too, but the reason we don't have billions of threads all on the same topic is because Placebo et al. are continually categorising, moving, merging... in effect, they've already filtered questions for us.

Just about any thread thats got more than 100-150 posts and is consistently on the first page of "Troubleshooting" or "Suggestions" should cover most of peoples immediate interests and concerns...

The main job is really to take all those topics and formulate clearly worded questions for each...

Placebo thats one point excessive bad language could result in permanent ban.

There isn't such a rule, there are however rules about ignoring a moderator's instruction, spamming etc, I'd suggest you pay closer attention.
