Nothing but problems

Recommended Posts

So... where do I begin..

Installed the game, patched.... tried to launch and the securom tells me that I need to have a DVD rom on my pc

For $60 you would atleast hope to get something not so half assed.

System specs are: WXP sp3, AMD Dual core 2.7, 4gb 1066 RAM, 8800 GTS w/ 512mb DVRAM

BIS is in no way responsible for the publisher's problem.

I think copy protection is up to the publisher.

As games get more complex, games have more bugs.

I agree, but professional companies use project management tools to avoid those bugs or have a big QA department which tests and report them.

I think of Arma as a work in progress…..

I have never played a game that was bug free.

Given that, the bugs that we are expierencing are not forefront to this game!!!!

Maybe one of the dafult mission is buggy, or a certain setting on your graphics card makes the screen flicker.

Bottom line is its A bloody brilliant piece of engineering (Which was probably completely bug-free on the machines that made it, but how can developers predict each combination of software, hardware and settings that each gamer will use? Alas, the plight of PC games, if you don't like it get a console).

Those of us that played Arma1 know that the release version is not a final copy, unlike most games. It will improve with every patch released. The developers will continue to patch, fix, update and improve the game for years to come for our benefit!!

As for your system…….. Well, what do you expect?

Maybe you ought to check the reccomended system requirements.

I would be inclined to think nobody knows how to read....

My system specs? With everything up to the max I can run it with no problems.. only in multiplayer does it start doing the "Receiving" shit

Read the entire thread instead of getting 2 words into it while already punching out a reply

Look at the boards from other games..bugs are everywhere. Compared to many other games ARMA 2 does very well on inital release.

I don't know why you have a problem with securom cause i never did with any game. I even have 1 dvd and 1 blueray drive in my pc..i even can run virtual drive programms without conflict with securom.

So i suppose your pc in general has troubles somewhere making securom kick in at some point. Just a guess but i think it would be like this.

I LOL'd. Slight contradiction to your first post.

If your running on ‘Very High’ with a 512mb card, your ‘no problems’/receiving/flickering issue could be expected.

There is no need to get bitter. I’m merely trying to explain to you that the game will continue to be improved, and its totally unreasonable to expect a 0% error margin when chartering in unexplored territory… The game is brand new, and both BIS AND hardware manufacturers with most games that challenge their limits have to update their software to meet the demands of one-another and their end users!!!!!

As for ‘half assed’, I don’t think you can blame BIS for Securerom’s shortfalls. Do you think they would be happy for purchasing Securerom for protection of their game while it is full of bugs?

Steaksauce, try lowering texture details. Your 512MB card most likely can't handle very high.

Original post edited, if you cannot post in a mature, sensible manner you cannot expect any kind of troubleshooting support on these forums, buying the game doesn't give you the right to post anything you like on these forums.

Ok let me say it again.. read the ENTIRE thread before posting and talking about my specs blah blah flickering this flickering that..

For those of you who DIDN'T read it all..

THE GAME WORKS FINE IN SINGLE PLAYER

I EXCEED THE RECCOMENDED SPECS

now maybe you missed the part about these problems only happen in multiplayer.. so common sense would suggest that it has nothing to do with my settings.

More so the fact that it is a digital download with NO dvd.. so why in gods green earth would the game tell me to insert a dvd to launch it.

I'm not really wanting to be rude, but so far the replies I have gotten either defend and justify the bugs or blame it on my system. Not to mention the runaround I've gotten from securom and metaboli. Maybe if someone would read the entire thing first they would get the big picture.

I say it again..

Exceed system specs.. game runs smooth as glass even with all hell breaking loose....

Only happens after dying in multiplayer I get a black screen that says receiving what appears to be a windows folder flickering in the background THROUGH the game..

I really do hope I made it clear this time..

I don't think you can be certain that it is not your system here pal, just how we cannot be certain its not the game itself.

The single player missions aren't nearly as half demanding on the system as the multiplayer types, so it could be the strain on your system causing the 'Receiving' loading times. Similarly, it could be the server machine. I have experinced big hangs in-game on slow spec dedicated servers put up on the same machine as a player, instead of the typcial yellow or red chain you get on a dedicated machine.

Maybe it could be worth it trying an FPS measurer and experimenting with different settings. Search these forums for tweaks also could be beneficial. For instance, the Advanced menu in graphics settings, changing my setting from 'Very High' to 'Default' in the Memory section improved my fps by 15-25. Similarly, -world=empty in the short-cut target made the loading/receiving times reduce to alomst nothing.

I have just googled your problem and found over 1500,000 hits regarding securerom. So maybe a little research outside the BIS forums for that issue would help you. Reading the first one, it says how people with virtual/emulated drives have 'Insert CD' problems. I feel your fustration, but this is the BIS forum, not metaboli or securerom. Vent your anger towards them mate.

Your issues with the copy protection need to be taken up with the distributor. This is the BIS forum - BIS are the developers. They have nothing to do with the copy protection.

As for your black screen problem, it sounded like an issue people were experiencing with the video adapter resetting itself, which is why I suggested lowering texture details.

Your problem seems to be a different one, but you may want to describe it in more detail. For example does it always happen when you die, or only sometimes? Does it only happen in certain missions? etc.

as far as the securom and metaboli, I have already tried those routes multiple times.. no reply what so ever from securom and that was 2 days ago, all metaboli does is send me an automated email telling me to reinstall the game. I have found this problem on any server, evo, warfare etc.. I have put all of my settings down to the lowest possible and STILL get the problem. A friend of mine plays on a laptop with half the ram a video card much older than mine and a much slower cpu.. the problems are NOT with my system. I feel if I can play GTA IV at the highest settings (GTA 4 is a real system hog) that I should be able to play arma 2, esp when compared to a less powerful laptop. This is really aggrivating.. as much as I want to love arma.. after these issues and issues with the first one.. I'm really starting to hate it. The problems I've had are almost endless... downloaded.. install was corrupt, downloaded again, installed then it tells me i have no cd/dvd rom on my pc (Which i didn't, but since its a DOWNLOAD why would you even need a drive) So I fixed that problem only to be confronted by yet another error telling me to insert the DVD.. after fixing that I get the receiving bug... Like an endless waterfall of problems.. So I'm sure after fixing this bug I will likely encounter yet another problem. Not to mention just to even get the game to run I had to take Nero off my machine which I use for my business. So it kinda sucks that I have to choose to make $ with my business or eat the $60 I spent on arma and not play it. Maybe atleast 1 person out there can relate to my frustration.. I will try the suggested switch in the command line above and see if that improves any.

Out of curiosity, how did you fix that? I mean, you obviously don't have an Arma2 DVD with the download version.

I'd say its your 512 mb card. Try lowering texture detail?

Not to beat a dead horse or anything... but you really cannot compair ArmA 2 to GTA 4... GTA 4 does not require anywhere near as much CPU power that ArmA 2 does the AI in ArmA 1 and 2 are pretty nasty when it comes to CPU power..

That being said, and seeing the number of people saying the same thing I am inclined to agree with some of them... Have you tried at lower graphics settings? I used to get the same problem with the flickering screen in ArmA 1... I found it to be my graphics card drivers crashing, which was a result of a bad GPU from Nvidia (Thank god they replaced it as it was an expensive card at the time :P ) but still... Lowering the settings for me fixed the problem temporarly... Perhaps give that a go and see if that changes things any with the lag / flickering / receiving bugs.
