Mine also crashes to the desktop:

I think I have a pretty good notebook. Here are its specs:

Win7 64-bit

6GB DDR2 RAM

Intel Core 2 Duo 2.8GHz (OC'ed)

Nvidia GTX 260M

2X 250GB 5400rpm HDDs

When I set the 3d resolution to 1600x900 (native resolution), the game crashes instantly when clicking on scenarios, single player, or when joining a MP server. If I set the 3d Resolution to 87% (~1440x800?) with no AA and low shadows, the game will not crash when clicking the buttons, but will crash around 5 minutes in-game. I have the 195.78 or something (not beta) driver installed.

What does the Video Memory setting do, and what should I set it to?

I mean, I can run the game fine with pretty decent settings, but still, I crash.

Flubadoo: What version game are you on? Make sure you have updated to latest.

Try the latest Nvidia driver as 195 is quite old.

Also try without the OC just to be sure.

What? The Nvidia drivers were fully updated, the site said. I'm running ArmA 2: OA on v1.51 I think. I just updated, but still same problem. Without the OC, the crash still happens.

Isn't that link for desktops only?

Edit:

Just intalled the WHQL V257.21 or something from http://www.nvidia.com/object/notebook-win7-winvista-64bit-257.21-whql-driver.html. Still happens. Also, on dxdiag, the version says the GPU is 8.17 or something. I heard somewhere that the latest is 9.xx or something.

In my Nvidia control panel, there is no option for performance and the other thing. Only have 3 options, AKA no OC option. On screenies I see 5 options, not 3.

Hmm, There is no mention of mobile GPUs so I assume they are universal. Not sure but it will only give you an error if its not compatible so you can still give it a try. (I'd go for the 258.49 WHQL)

Also try the BETA for OA. Its fixed issues for me in the past and its easy to remove. (Just delete Beta folder. NOT uninstall)

Well, I can't think of anything else right now. Hopefully someone will give other ideas...

You should post this issue with dump files to the CIT

YES! That helped! It no longer crashes when 3d res and interface res is high!!

Now there is another problem...

Like my other games that I play (OFDR, Oblivion, CS:S, Gmod, etc), after a while, (3-5mins), the game suddenly freezes for a second, the game spazzes out and the screen goes black for 2 seconds, then there is a sudden FPS drop. In OFDR, the FPS dropped from 59 all the way down to 19. In ArmA 2 OA, the fps went from 38 to 10.

If it helps, when starting OA, two of the checkboxes aren't checked.

The last 2 boxes not checked is normal.

Your other issue almost sounds like your power options are set low (throttling the cpu).

Well, my CPU is usually oc'ed to 2.9Ghz (new record) from the original 2.5Ghz.

Im going to post something that may piss people off: Im playing OA in iraq, purchased from a local vendor. No access to US markets and we cannot purchase items online (iraqi network, rampant ID theft) I go home in a month and plan on buying a 'real' copy there. If you dont like it, sorry, no choice.

I can play editor and training w/o problems, but single player campaign CTD before it even starts loading. Is anyone willing to help me? What programs should I download to submit an error report with my laptop stats? I have a retail copy of ARMA2 that runs without any problems damn near maxed out.

Please understand my situation and dont flame me... Too hard.

first please try use the public beta build of OA ...

also make sure your DirectX is up2date and same goes for audio drivers

I bet you have a Nvidia card and experiencing an "nvlddmkm.sys" bug. No point talking to Nvidia as they will only blame your hardware. I've updated my drivers and got the bug then rolled back the drivers and the nvlddmkm.sys bug disappeared so it's definately software.

What is your power option set to?

High Performance, Power Saver or Balanced (Balanced is default).

Even using an overclock, these settings will effect cpu speed.

Sample, mine set to Balanced allows the cpu to throttle from 1.0ghz-3.0ghz. Only "High Performance" will keep the cpu at top speed of 3.0ghz.

Unfortunately simply buying a copy isnt an option for me as of yet, I love all BI games and have been playing them since flashpoint but i simply cannot right now, that doesnt mean I will not. I just need something to kill the boredom in our last month here... no more missions to take my time.

Updating my drivers had no effect

Its on ASUS overclocking mode. Its basically high performance. And I don't get any dll errors with my card.

Now there aren't really any black screens before the lag begins, it just suddenly happens. It even happens with Halo 1.........

I mean, my CPU is also really cool. My GPU maxes out at 75C and CPU is slightly less.

Whatever your situation, you cannot come on here with your illegal version expecting help or support that's just not on, nor is it really on to be posting troubleshooting problems from your illegal version of the game. Your account is now suspended, if you choose/are able to buy the legal version of the game and prove that via Email your account will be reactivated.

Edit: Oh and now I see you're posting with a duplicate account, well that's clearly not allowed under the forum rules either, both suspended.

ok,perhaps my little buggt experience can help some folks.when playing Arma2 and OA i got the nerving CTD but the game still ran in task manager.i was looking everything (different drivers, formatted twice etc).then i got a idea when i read somewhere it could be the heavy gpu load or something like this.

btw i have a overclocked gtx 295 (which is OC by the manufacturer)...so i saw the gpu runs at 630 MHZ,with Rivatuner i "downclocked" first at 600 and nothing, still the bug, so me still very ....so i downclocked again at 550 MHZ...and now it works without that bug again, can play hours and hours.....

hope it can help someone not to search 2 weeks like me...........

Yes ArmA2/OA use your GPU extremely, i did a test on OA Benchmark.

GPU Core Clock [MHz] , GPU Memory Clock [MHz] , GPU Shader Clock [MHz] , GPU Temperature [°C], Memory Used [MB] , GPU Load [%] , Memory Controller Load [%] , Video Engine Load [%]

As you all can see, my GPU Load % was almost 100%
