ArmA 2 machinima - G'day :) im new to posting..

Recommended Posts

Hi,

As the title reads, im new to posting on these forums. But I've been watching both this, and the OFP: DR forums for a long time now and soaking in all the info (don't hate me for the OFP thing! :p )

Anyway, i'm very keen on both games and I like how they both look. So call me a fence sitter, I don't care :p

My main reason for posting here is - im interested in getting into the Machinima side of the game. Both Writing/Acting/Directing etc etc.

I've come up with a few things... but thats for another time.

Anyway this me just saying Hi, Hello and all that :)

Introductory posts aren't permitted on this forum mate. You might want to swing this into an Arma2 machinima discussion before Placebo smites you with his mighty lock. :)

Please tell us about your ideas.

Oh, understood :)

I didn't see an 'Off Topic' section or anything so I thought I'd put it here. But I stand corrected.

Anyway, a basic idea of what I was thinking of doing is this:

Creat a Machinima series based around the worlds elite Special Forces and Combat Regiments. Mainly Frontline stuff, but maybe some CT stuff as well. Who knows ;)

Anyway I was thinking of releasing the machinima (either free on youtube or on a site... *shrugs*) and then after the series, releasing the missions to the community?

You know, watch it happen one way. Then try and do it another way...

I have many more ideas to go with all that, but right now I CBF'd typing it out :p But thats a general outline I guess.. ? :)

Raven Shield is only 5$ on Steam these days, expansion included.

And yes, it's good, one of the last real tactical shooters around :)

I still play it in co-op with TangoDown.nl

It's Unreal 2 tech, so it's a bit old, but you dont have to be ancient to have played it :p

Hell, it's the third game in the Rainbow Six franchise and i started playing with the very first game which is just called Rainbow Six.

And i'm just 21 so :p

But the game sure as hell kicks the living crap out of Lockdown and most other tactical shooters (aka Letdown) or Vegas 1/2 (aka biggest franchise-rape in gaming history)

Yeah I saw some youtube stuff on it and didn't exactly like it. To me, SOCOM Combined Assault on the PS2 was better.

Anyway, enough about consols....

Arma 1 is like made for Machinima. Theres all kinds of scripts and things you can do in the editor, and the people even open their mouth while talking ingame.

Yup. In theory you could just jump into MP with a bunch of friends and talk with them over directVoN. That's positional audio and lip synching for you right there, no editing necessary. :)

Perhaps for more acting fidelity, every actor could have a scripted GUI where they can select facial expressions and anims, but even that shouldn't take too long to write.

EDIT: For an example of ad hoc "quasi machinima" search YouTube for MadCows breakdown. Hilarious video! Also it shows off the positional audio in directVoN.

Ok seeing as 1. The ArmA2 forum is uber busy and 2. I see virtually nothing ontopic to ArmA2 I'll move this to OT.
