Go after BF2's peeps with urban combat addon

Recommended Posts

I just upgraded my pc and loaded amra with 1.14. It's great but there are not to many players online. If you look at who is playing BF2, the most populated servers are those with urban combat.

Theres nothing restricting anyone to play anywhere, including urban areas, so what would a urban combat expansion contain?

BF2 also has a much faster gameplay, so it is a different PVP experience, and cant be directly compared.

Perhaps because most of us are on 1.15 or 1.16.

1.16 has had a dramatic FPS increase and is being used in Arma TOW for this reason

Hi Sparks,

It would be more like BF2's Kirkland or Jalalabad maps, but on arma steroids. More buildings you go into or climb up on with ladders. BF2 takes a big map and overlays it with restrictive areas to make it more concentrated for two opposing platoon size elements.

More accessible buildings would be interesting, though theres a lot of inaccessible buildings in Battlefield too.

True, but I find bf2's special forces pak with ghost town or warlord has quite a bit of access. The warlord map is very popular.

to make ArmA 2 a tunnel-ego-shooter with a 2 km2 mission map, endless ammo, 30 shoot kills......well, I also did not got the point???

I must admit being a long time ofp/arma player I would sometimes like a happy medium between bf2 and arma. I don't play bf2 because its arcadey but sometimes arma can be too slow.

All it needs is a good game mode to bridge the difference. I would love a version of warfare where you could play as infantry in a BF2 cod 4 style straight into urban action but also go back to base and get tanks etc if you felt like it. With the amount of tanks you could get depending on how well your side is doing in the tight nit urban battles.

I think the answer would be to make a concentrated version of warfare with the action only taking place at one objective each time so that all the units where fighting for the same point on the map each time instead of multiple points on the map. Once that objective was captured then on to the next area.

If you felt like a quick infantry battle you could start at the battle area but if you also felt like flying tanking etc you could also do this.

I know that domination is sort of like this but theres not a good team versus team mode, and there's the other mission i cant remember the name of that is similar but i want all the elements of warfare in it as well.

If I could script this I would. er anyway that wasted a few minutes bye.

Better urban combat. Although it has too be said that ArmA made some good strides over OFP in it. I think they just have to capitalize on it better.

Better urban combat.

Start mission editor, select Sahrani, place each for each playable side around a town of your choice playable infantry units with weaponry of your choice, save it into a .pbo and ... play :D If you want to slaughter AI bots, it requires of course some more effort...

Yes, I know how to work the mission editor, thank you very much. :j:

I was thinking more along the lines of room clearing (I think I remember seeing flashbangs in one the trailers..) , and the AI making better use of buildings for cover, amongst other things.

Oh, this is not very well supported in ArmA.

1.) Only few buildings can be accessed

2.) to few animations to move in buildings

3.) clipping into/through walls/doors

Rather stick to Rainbow Six and similar.

This is my point, why should have to contend with it being bad? With a bit of effort BIS could make the CQB fighting as good as the outdoor fighting which is ArmA 1's strongpoint. Besides, we all need a new CQB game ever since Ubisoft absolutely raped the Rainbow Six franchise :p

If anyone think ArmA needs a certain type of mission - create it! You have been given the most awesome editor and tools to do so. And you will probably be highly praised for it as well. 2 in 1. ;)

Missions/scripting cannot break some of OFP/ArmA limitations, including Urban close combat, particularly in house combats. And God knows that we were able to break / turnaround a great amount of limitations...

CQB is rubbish in arma IMO. the AI are slow to move and respond and dont take cover or check corners that i have witnesed. I like ama cos it can be really fun but sometimes when i've played BF2 i've had better fights. So if BIS could make a halfway point when it comes to CQB prhaps it will m ake game play that bit more fun.

for most of us here, the gameplay is fun, i think the OP wants more inhouse fights within a city, AI using the floors/roof of a house etc.

With any luck, the new high-precision AI will do a better job at CQB and general indoor stuff.

And we are talking about ARMA2 here right since its in the ARMA2 section? You say ARMA's AI is rubbish and boring in urban areas, but did you not read anything about ARMA2's new AI? That they can now distinguish small cover objects, stacking up at walls, last man covering the squads ass, centimeter presicion compared to ARMA1 meter precision etc etc? Did you miss that? Just pounding ARMA's AI for being boring and refering to ARMA1 seems weird to me in the ARMA2 section.

Make ARMA2 blend with BF2? ...wow :j:

Thing is that CQB requires first an custom made island where only buildings used which are accessible. The result could be a boring town made of 3-8 different types of buildings.

And even then, it is very likely to detect a hidden player inside a building from outside because his arm or leg pokes through the wall.

CQB isn't bf2, if you wanted bf2 players you instead would focus on improving the response and feel of the infantry movement, and the smoothness of aiming/shooting.

Thats what bf2 did better than arma.

No maps = no players, you can try on the filters and type on the mission name berzerk and play that crappy map, but its the only one here to save the day
