The CQB Guide for public gamers

Recommended Posts

The CQB Guide;

Hey mates. I’m Takko, Modder in the game ArmA: Armed Assault, as well as FarCry 2 and GRAW 2, and I want to share my techniques in entering buildings, or short, close quarter battle, with you.

The reason why I’am doing this is because I’ve often experienced people in public ArmA Servers who raided buildings in the wrong manner and I’ve seen squads left dead by only 1 defensor.

After several nightmare CQB action, I’m writing this short ArmA CQB guide, which is dedicated to the normal casual gamer.

I’m using no mods except for 1 weapon package, and that is made by me.

The guns shown are part of it.

The target building is the ArmA Hotel “Belle Folieâ€

Remember: The whole thing has to be well planned and you should have trained this some times, but after you’re good at it, you definitely kick ass.

Chapter 1: The arriving

How to arrive? Good question with a good answer as well. I’ve witnessed people in MH6’s trying to raide the house by landing on the top, but this is the wrong way to clear a house of enemies except you’re in a hurry.

The reason why it’s the wrong technique is, because the targets are able to escape by fleeing outside or even hide in some bushes near the hotel to pin your squad in the house down.

You should always start from the bottom and cover with your mates all two entrances.

There two and these should be covered from min. 1 guy. I marked also a position from where people can cover up both of them easily.

lesson1.th.jpg

(E stands for entrance)

As seen on the picture, the sniper can cover up the backdoor and is also able to cover the windows. This is important when for example, the tangos are trying to flee or establish some last defense point at the backside or just some clueless tango, who’s patrolling down the windows.

You see, it’s always good, nearly necessary to have a sniper cover these angles which are hard to reach for the raiding team.

For the front building, there is no need for a sniper, the storming team is covering this door already, because it’s walking through it.

So once you are with your team at the door, check the next things:

lesson2k.th.jpg

You don’t enter the building immediately, always make sure to have a look through the windows first.

As you can see, you got a great angle when you cover up these angles by just standing at the window.

Important places to watch at are the door next to the elevator and even more important, the stairs.

After that, you can enter that building with your team.

Once you reached the stairs, the best thing to cover it is (even if its actually hard to believe) to crawl.

Just watch the picture and see, how little you’re exposing yourself by choosing this stance:

lesson3.th.jpg

Was hard to find you, eh?

While going up the stairs, don’t immediately hop from edge to edge. You should always take a look through the rails before and you might find some surprise.

The good thing: While looking through the rails you’re good covered but also able to take the tango out or make him surrender.

lesson4.th.jpg

When you’re in the floors, your team should both take different directions, this means the one goes left, and the other guy goes right.

Expose yourself as little as possible while sneaking through the floors. Especially on corners (As seen on the pic above)

Now continue going that way and the house could be yours.

Tips/Experiences

Never walk the ladder up, I often got killed.

No MH6 extraction on rooftop.

No walking in the middle of the room

Pistols became handy more than once for me

When you’re playing against humans, suppress them by firing at the doors while your mate goes in.

Beginning with level 2 grenades become useless

Even if you get killed, try on.

The weapon choice.

Assault rifles or SMG’s are usable.

However, I do not recommend using the G36 or M4 Acog because of its scope.

The M4A1, M4 with Red Dot or M16 Versions are highly effective against enemy troops.

AK’s are good aswell.

Optical sight or Ironsights?

In my opinion go with the red dot sight, but it has an disadvantage, the fact, that its near to useless during night in ArmA.

But at day, I’d go with the Red Dot all way.

But if you want to have a All-rounder take the iron sight, because the disadvantage at day is only minimal but during night the advantage more than big.

I show you an example:

lesson5.th.jpg

I took care, that at public servers not everyone wants to play like that, that’s why all these tactics are possible with just 3 people. (And even written for 3-4 guys)

If you want we can arrange a training which takes max. up to 1 hour.

Have fun, hope to see you guys.

Takko this is a great guide.

Thanks for taking the time. Hopefully players that don't know these simple tactics will read this and use some if not all of the suggestions.

Cheers

I would also like to add that UGLs are very, very useful in the hotel if you've got dug in defenders (and no hostages, mind), as long as you're keeping safe distance (i.e. are firing down a hallway rather than standing at the door).

Great guide for beginners! If I may recommend downloading PROPER_WeaponCollisionShape. It eliminates the "bumping" that happens when your weapon hits a wall or window. Makes room clearing quick and smooth.

I was going to say that. Is the guide meant for AI or pvp combat? I've never seen AI that does anything more complex indoors than stand/lay in place. On the other hand I don't know of any pvp scenario like that except for my DM Motel but that's just brainless shooting with respawn.
