Roller v0.1.1

rollerwikiai8.jpg

Roller is a community made software developed by Spooner to convert and process OFP and ArmA island files.

Its primary purpose is to convert OFP islands to ArmA for the ACE Island Pack, but it can also do some processing that could be useful to people making new ArmA islands.

Formats that can be imported

   * 4WVR WRP (OFP unbinarized)

   * 8WVR WRP (ArmA unbinarized)

Formats that can be exported

   * 8WVR WRP (ArmA unbinarized)

   * XYZ height data (text file), suitable for import into Visitor 3

   * Object data list (text file), suitable for import into Visitor 3

   * Mask texture (PNG)

Additional features

   * Generate satellite mask texture (customizable coloring based on terrain point height, definition of forest and urban areas, customizable texture size)

   * Replace forest block with customizable single objects (type, density, relative frequency)

   * Replace single objects with optional offset (1:n and n:1)

   * Reduce cell size for more height data points (useful if you want to add bumps), or increase cell size for less detail

   * Make terrain bumpy

   * Raise/lower sea level

   * Generate list of unique objects present in source file

   * Replace textures (1:n and n:1)

   * Set terrain point height at the edges (to avoid endless repeated terrain)

   * Processing summary

Well,for features i'd like it to be like wrptool for ofp.So,could you add a feature to edit original arma islands eg. replacing buildings,adding stuff like signs etc?

What can you say ... outstanding app by a great guy!

It was a very enjoyable run and looking forward whats to come. smile_o.gif

Without Roller the ACEIP would not have been possible to make

this polished and improved where it is now!

Sincere thanks again for your hard work Spooner. notworthy.gif

Roller makes converting your OFP islands to ArmA a child's play. smile_o.gif

If you want to convert other peoples islands please get their

permission to do so!

Roller is a converter, yet it offers a big set of generic

modification features as well.

For actual island design you are recommended to use 3DE of course.

Added Armaholic and ArmedAssault.info mirrors. Thanks fellas! I'm quite happy to have you both, and anyone else, host the files, as long as you link back to the Dev Heaven project.

Thanks again to Sickboy and kju for setting up Dev Heaven; really made this collaboration possible!

Thanks to everyone for the positive feedback. I do hope that it helps you out in your island conversion and creation.

@Snakeman: Sorry, I forgot to credit you for your original work in mapping OFP->ArmA objects which was what we based our conversion files on. I'll sort that out ASAP.

T_D has reported that the Roller executable doesn't actually work! This is because I am an idiot (directly running the source works fine, but since you need to install the Ruby interpreter for that, we suppose most people will be wanting to use the executable version). Expect v0.1.1 very, very soon. Sorry!

Updated to v0.1.1

* FIXED: Executable version fails to run [Reported by T_D]

Sorry again for this silly mistake...I need to give this up and become a goatherd or something easier :P

Wow sounds very awesome!

My Question is, is this able (in future) to create a Satmap out of OFPs single Textures, so we can have in future OFP Islands' Ground looking exactly like they did in OFP?

That isn't something I'd considered. I'm not sure of how this might be done, but I suppose it might be possible to paste the old textures into a big image in areas based on which texture they had originally.

I've ticketed it anyway as a potential feature. kyu and the-f can give me some wisdom on whether this would work (you'd not believe it, but I never played OFP).

OFP like SAT.

The-f tried this by "hand". Search the BI forum for the first

ACE island pack release for ArmA.

Bottom line: looks crap.

If you add up all the single textures, the big texture is like 180 GB.

The-f still used a 1.x GB texture. The resolution was too low by

then. Maybe with some tweaks a better result is doable.

Well basically you only need an app to add a single texture x

times to one huge textures with having the single x times repeated.

The tool may seem complicated at first in its use.

Please check the 'Sample conversion process' wiki page.

It was a bit hidden and the end of the list with the name Visitor 3. whistle.gif

Feel free to visit the project site to ask your question! smile_o.gif

Guys,

Amazing project! notworthy.gif

Problem;

I'm Importing WaterWorld and cant seem to get a near complete ArmA-OFP replacement of objects going.

I'm using;

<table border="0" align="center" width="95%" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0"><tr><td>Code Sample </td></tr><tr><td id="CODE">roller.exe waterworld.wrp -x -O -u --replace-objects ofp_objects_to_arma_objects.yaml

which seems close.

But then loading the correct template into V3 prior to using the objectimport script also is a factor.

Using "object_definition_template_A1_objects"

Seems the best I can get in ~4000 in 5000 missed.

Looking at visitor, seems I'm missing vegitation.

BTW, I don't expect to get 100% replacement, but closer would be better.

Please advise.

Cheers.

EDIT:

hmmmm ... just noticed ALL my objects after import are several meters above the ground (except ground hugging objects).
