31st Normandy mod -WW2

Recommended Posts

Daniel @ Sep. 03 2008,11:22)]There's a lot of random talk in this thread about going into other theatres and fronts. I'd suggest just sticking to one small theatre of combat from the period and making some decent units and missions for that, polish it slightly and then release it. Then consider a different area to go into.

Looking good though, you chaps seem to be progressing well.

Yes good idea. Talks all along of releasing packages in phases was and is still the overall goal. Otherwise you would be waiting forever.

Thanks! I'm in a learning process!

I see many examples I can learn from smile_o.gif Faust & Frizy for example. Many more...

OK OK OK...I spent the last couple days learning a little bit about UV mapping. crazy_o.gif All I can say is it can be frustrating with just about any program out there from 3dmax9 to blender. Finally I just started experimenting in the o2 UV editor and low and behold, I found a light at the end of the tunnel. Now the other part I spent a bunch of time messing around in Gimp & paint shop pro. Now I'm no artist as I've claimed not to be one 100 million times.

But here are some results of messing around with the UV mapper and some textures for a couple hours with my 109:

Much better! I think it is a improvement. What are your thoughts?

Wow, that's looking sharp. If you email me your prop texture, I can set up a prop blur texture for you in photoshop. Same for the Junkers, C47, and other prop planes.

Here's about as modeled as this tank's going to get, I just need to figure out the UV Mapper myself, and get some textures on it, set up models, weights, shadows, and geometry, and config it into Arma. Easy cheesy.

Thanks again, Rip, the tracks are working now. biggrin_o.gif

That is going to be one sweet looking Cromwell. Glad to hear I was of assistance. Sometimes the little things that is left out of a tutorial can be frustrating. LOL

Only texture so far. RVMAT's are what you're refering to when you say Material?

the 109 could use more work done, needs more details, or something, it just don't look right, in my opinion.

Yes, it can. There was an addon on Armaholic somewhere, it was a demo for multiple gunner positions. I plan on getting this tank textured up and in-game with the turret and custom weapon working in-game first, and then I'll go in and get the hull MG working.

Getting close, Rip's helped me out in understanding how to use the O2 UV Mapper, so (If the kids keep taking good naps) I might have this thing in next week.

I'm not sure if it looks right either. I'm no artist or expert on 109's. Supposedly it's based on a 109e1 Emil from the battle of Britian prior to 1941. III/JG27.

The III/JG27 was mainly in support of Afrika Korps after 1941.

But what I'm asking is if it's a visual improvement. I'm just experimenting with some art software.

Well the UH60mg uses multiple turrets. Correct me if I'm wrong, it depends on its dependancy on another turret for what axis it rotates around. Which can be configured in the Skeleton bones.

It should be possible. Someone told me somebody on Armaholic did a series of vehicles with multiple crewed vehicle gun positions.

I just got a chance to try out Faust & Frizy's Opel Blitz and I gotta say I'm impressed with the high quality of work! Here's a couple screenies I took:

I apologize on the size of the image. I was retarded when I went to upload them.

Those are in work as well!

What are they? A British Bedford OY 3-tonner and an

American GMC CCKW "deuce and a half"?

GMC's are in work. Probably a Morris, Laffly and eventually a bedford.

Well I'm going to stick 4 MG17's total on the 109e-1 if there isn't any objections. Also going to add ailerons that droop down with the flaps for landings and take-offs seeing that it is a feature of the 109.

Hi rip.

Great work on that 109. I dont know if you know IL-2 sturmovik, but that would be a great game to check out the different armed versions of the plane. And looking at their paintschemes you could also "learn" something from their colours and such so you dont have to look all over the net to find the right colours. Just a suggestion. Keep up the good work!

I actually played that game a little bit a few years back. Just remember were not trying to get too technical when it comes to the way the planes were during a specific time frame. The models were making are just basic. Otherwise we'd end up developing this mod for a couple years before it's release.

What I may end up doing however is distributing the UV mapping to interested parties so they can do a repaint of whatever variation they choose.
