Armed Assault & HD 4870 problem with glare effects

Recommended Posts

Help!

I bought this new Radeon HD 4870 card by Sapphire to play armed assault and it doesn't quite work like it should.

These glare effects are awful! When ever I get in a vehicle, this effect keeps getting stronger and stronger, 'till I can't see outside at all..

They are bad enough when walking around, but in vehicles... I just can't play at all :-(

Sample pic: picture1  picture2

ARMA 1.14 English, 505 games

System:WinXP, DirectX 9.0c, Catalyst version 8.7 Beta

GFX: Sapphire HD4870

CPU: Amd64 x2 4400+

MOBO: A8N-SLI & 1GB ram

using v8.6 catalyst drivers doesn't help, with or without that hotfix.

Tweaking with brightness & gamma doesn't help..

When im looking a your first screen and see that the textures are also pretty weird, then i think maybe the card is broken overheated, whatever...

It's not allways that bright. When I move or look to a diffirent direction, the glare eases for a moment. Night missions are quite fine.

I'm pretty sure it's the 'Alternate Pixel Centers' setting that's responsible for this effect. Install ATI Tray Tools, go to Direct3D page and uncheck 'Alternate Pixel Centers'.

Yes indeed it was! GREAT! THANKS!

Btw. U don't need ATT for that, U can set it from Catalyst Control Center too.. But on a second tought, maby ATT is bith lighter program to run than CCC.

Its the performance of HD4870 good in arma? I mean would I benefit alot if I move from 8800GT to 4870?

I just built a new rig (Q6600, 4GB Dual channel 800MHz DDR2 RAM

and Sapphire HD 4870 512MB DDR5).

Everything seems to be running really smooth on these settings:

Can you made a little movie while you playing evolution? I want to see how its perform in battle. And fraps would be welcome to see how much fps do you get.

Nah, I don't play Evolution wink_o.gif

Besides, I don't really think that capturing a video using Fraps is a reliable way of measuring performance, especially since Fraps cuts the FPS in half.

Well, I'll see what I can do, just don't expect anything from Evo wink_o.gif.

I got HD4870 now. But im not impressed with performance in arma. I reinstall vista to make sure that everything is clear for new GPU. Now i get low fps in arma with these settings as you have Deadfast. I have the same computer as you. I have a new 8.7 ati drivers.

That's weird, even though I gotta admit I turned off the AA (FPS drop by trees and I can't tell a difference anyway at this resolution).

Im also running 1680x1050 and i cant really decide (AA)normal or off.

What really bugs me is when playing in bad (rainy daytime) weather and going into a forrest everything goes really bright. Looking down on the hands they are white as snow  tounge2.gif  but looking up makes it normal  crazy_o.gif .

Which drivers are you using?

Sorry for the late reply, but I couldn't get up the forums thanks to errors...

I'm using 8.7 and the OS is Vista Business 64.

I have the same drivers and OS as you have. Can you take a picture of your settings in catalyst control center at 3D section?

I didn't change anything there.

It's set to balanced.

Have you tried some other games?

Try changing your hdrprecision setting to 16 or 32.

By default it's on 8.

You will find the setting in your arma.cfg, default location: My Documents\ArmA\ArmA.cfg

(Edit while game closed)

I did. And every single game is running great. But that arma doesnt want to run like others.

Also that stuttering happens when I enable AA of AF.

Ya i tried 16 and it made it a bit better, will try 32 and see if that solves it. Thanks for the heads up.
