spirit 0 Posted July 11, 2008 Watkins Mountains WIP Release Alpha out. The island is a fictional island with in mind the Watkins Mountains, Greenland. ->www.armaholic.com ->www.armedassault.info Be advised that this is WIP release. Its being released to get input on what to build where and on the fact that i lack time to deliver the total package soon. Its a good playable map but has few issues, check the known issues. The final product will be delivered in a later moment in time. There are no objects on the map yet, please feel free to give idea’s on what to build where. The island has been tested at http://www.6thsense.eu at the private area. About the island: · It is huge · It has huge mountains · Its AI and player unfriendly · Shows no respect to anybody · Its HUGE (did i mention that already?) The above is all for stay and will not be changed. This is rough terrain Spirit www.6thsense.eu
Daniel 0 Posted July 11, 2008 Sounds good. Rocky and grassy plateaus are always great locations for fights. Some places like the plateau on North Sahrani but with snow and rock would be great. I usually tend to stay away from serious elevations when making battlefields in the editor. The terrain on the north eastern most island with the airfield is good too, looks barren in a detailed way. Looking forward to more.
mrcash2009 0 Posted July 11, 2008 looks good indeed. Maybe on the outer and coming into the hills centrally some kind of valley / pathways non asphalt back roads to help with positioning and movement. That would be great setup for convoy and patrol ambush from down into the back roads from hills, musch like some examples in North Sahrani. Also some places that are a little open and flatter for Heli placement and insertion drops (nothing too flat further into the map just enough space to make drops and pickups). http://img137.imageshack.us/my.php?image=2077islandoverviewyr7.jpg Red = Non asphalt trails / tracks White = Camp flatter heli points Maybe? Stewy 1 Posted July 11, 2008 Looks great mate! My 2c would be to keep it as barren as possible, maybe a few farmers huts here and there, maybe some rough bush roads. It looks like it's going to be great on framerates, so please don't go too nuts on cities and detail... Just my 2c mate, please do what you like, it's your rock show, but great work! The-Architect 0 Posted July 11, 2008 You're definatley going to need to create some flat areas. mrcash talked about LZ locations and he's right. Also of equal importance to anyone wanting to create a mission on your island are flat areas for bases. These would have to be fairly large and almost completely flat, without any trees or rocks around them. Granted it will look silly when you just turn the map on for the first time but if someone makes a mission and makes a base out of the flat land you'll see it pay off. Good luck with it. Hey mate, Well this map is not realy designed with static missions in mind. Where i play my coop games i cant even remember we played our last static mission. All mission is 100% generated. So with respect to static mission makers but that will be limited in here by accident not by me thinking to let that happen. Please also keep in mind that the overview map represents a 20 by 20 km area. there is enough flat enough area So i wouldnt worry to much about it.

Stew Hey mate, There wont be huge towns in this map. The idea is to go through remote area's. So far i had some idea's about some ship wrecks, some broken/deserted houses but mainly rocks and natural cover. Maybe an oilfield and a small port. But this map will be mainly interesting for its variety in height and natural cover, not urban warwar

Hey, Tx for the picture with suggestion mate. The road i go take a look at. The landing spots i would not worry to much about. This map is 20 by 20 km. I have seen more then enough area flat enough to build something for a missionmaker. I was hoping to find instead of the dirttracks in arma something about modelled snow tracks. Who know somebody knows/can:)

Looking forward to more. Yep i also love the plateau and natural fights. I also stayed away from elevations but this map will be all about that. Its an interesting environment i must say myself. Been flying through it a bit yesterday. Airfield, well that i dont know yet. I love it being a rough area with not to much human influence. Although i concentrate more on what i like in an area then concentrate to much on what is a must in the game. The variety of height is interesting enoughs so far, that combined with rocks and other natural stuff i hope it to be nice. Adjusting later on to pure game related limitations i keep as a 2nd stage. For what i seen so far its well playable. Ofcourse the ai will do some goofup moves on some locations but by far not all. There is a huge valley going through the mountains at about 12 km in length. That is a nice fight location at least:)

So far i experienced great framerates : There are no objects on it yet Although if ppl are interested i can make a prerelease all empty. Sure mate, I'd certainly like a hi-speed version! But if you're adding trees and farm huts, please don't go too nuts
icebreakr 3159 Posted July 16, 2008 Yeah, couple of "research" camps and maybe one bigger village, that should be enough.
dale0404 5 Posted July 16, 2008 Anybody remember 'The Thing' starring Kurt Russel back in the late 1970's? This reminds me of that Brill work mate, top notch.
spirit 0 Posted July 16, 2008 Tx for the feedback guy. It will be first Island i actualy go publish so i choose a not to complex environment. Be advised that the terrain is real rough terrain. The AI for sure will at some locations have problems. Still however it is my personal choice not to bother on that to much. Its an extreme mountain terrain and for admosphere i love it. Ofcourse when it is crap to play on i will lower the stuff a little but with pain in my heart Although my first tests with AI did not prove very problematic so its looking good. icebreakr 3159 Posted July 16, 2008 So basically we'll have to use choppers to reach certain villages/camps? Sweet, talking about medevac in zero visibility
