archbishop lazarus 24 Posted February 2, 2008 Hi Everyone! I have just finished the modelling of these tanks,(including LODs) but I have 2 HUGE problems: 1, I have no idea how to texture a model properly, however I read a lot of tutorials. 2, Some parts of the config files are incomprehensible for me. I hope somebody can help me, because I worked about 3-4 months on the models, and I love soviet tanks! I made icons and gunsights for them, that's all what I could texture. The models are very detailed, 8-13000 faces. A few sounds are included too. Included vehicles: T-44, T-54A, T-55A, T-55AM(original russian version), T-55AMV, T-62A, T-62M, T-62MV Here you can find images: By elvtars at 2008-02-02 http://img81.imageshack.us/img81/8950/62mmb7.jpg http://img81.imageshack.us/img81/8987/62afv8.jpg http://img81.imageshack.us/img81/1297/55amveo4.jpg http://img81.imageshack.us/img81/2993/55amvx2.jpg http://img81.imageshack.us/img81/3566/54aij5.jpg http://img81.imageshack.us/img81/471/44vh5.jpg If you want to help me, just send a PM! Linker Split 0 Posted February 2, 2008 Quote[/b] ]have no idea how to texture a model properly, however I read a lot of tutorials. er... doesn't the model have at least UV map? cause if it's not textured, then I'm afraid it will be really really impossible to texture, seeing that it's finished

It's usually the way to do UV maps, first you make a model then you UVmap it. Just you don't do it in O2. Anybody sane won't do it in O2.
Linker Split 0 Posted February 2, 2008 I don't even know how to make UV maps! holy craaap... I think that those models will never be textured... take it with a smile, it happened soooo much times to me

Anybody sane won't do it in O2. well, I would never UV map a whole model of about 10K ploys.. better make it while doing it, not at the end, in this way I think you should remain on that model for about 4 months again. obviously if there are more than 2 people working on it, then the work would be sped up, so it would take 2 months. archbishop lazarus 24 Posted February 2, 2008 Thanks for the replies! Do you know a good tutorial about UV mapping? In which program should I try to make UV map?
MehMan 0 Posted February 2, 2008 My prefrence is 3ds Max. @Linker: 4 months? Woah. O2 is slow then. I usually do a complex unwrap like a tank in these pics, in Max on a saturday. So in about 12 hours.

wld427 1705 Posted February 2, 2008 @ lazarus The models look very nice and they cover several tanks that belong in this game but ere not included. I hope you find a way, and or some partners to help you complete this. For the sakeof the community please dont give up
archbishop lazarus 24 Posted February 2, 2008 Time isn't a problem for me, at weekends I can work on them.:) The real problem is that I don't know how to make UV map.

archbishop lazarus 24 Posted February 2, 2008 Quote[/b] ]Can you please go more into detail about your problems here. We can help you that way for sure. Â For example, I don't understand how to use the cfgskeletons, how to make a new machinegun (and its magazines) in the cfgweapons, how to make a second turret (AAMG), and how to use proxies. I'm very, very bad at programming, especially C++... Â
max power 21 Posted February 2, 2008 3ds max is absolutely freaking terrible for UV mapping. The 'pelt mapping' method makes it a bit easer but anyone who thought of using a dynamic simulation to unfurl geometry is some kind of nut-case. Maya has some very nice 3d unwrapping tools. They are the best I've tried, at any rate. You could also try a free app called Roadkill. Roadkill is derived from blender's 3d unwrapping tools and is very fast and mostly automatic. It's very nice but the uv maps require tweaking afterwards. What 3d application are you using right now?
MehMan 0 Posted February 2, 2008 Well, so far I've used the Milkshape unwrapped, which is one plane only, LithUnwrap and Unwrap3d, so Max is so far the best in what I've had. Pelt mapping is neat. Never got a hang of Maya, how hard is to compared to Max? Sorry for off topic here .
