CzingerX 0 Posted January 6, 2008 Alright, right now I have 2gigs of PC 5200 DDR2 memory in my rig. I have an extra stick to put me at 3 gigs total. When I have 3 gigs my index score drops to 4.0. in Vista. With 2 it's 5.9. Anyways, all I want to use it for is ARMA. Which is better? I'll go to four gigs sooner or later, even though Vista reconizes 3.5.
Placebo 29 Posted January 6, 2008 Better is whichever is smoother when playing ArmA, some score in another application is meaningless, if ArmA is smoother with 3gb for you then 3gb is better, common sense really
Vulture2k1 0 Posted January 13, 2008 Will there ever be a fix for the 4 gig RAM issue? I got another 2 gig of RAm a week ago.... all games work fine except of Arma.. and i dont want to downgrade my PC just to play Arma.. even games that are way older work fine.. maybe they dont use the RAM but they work.. Arma is the only game fucking around Now i nearly had every issue arma can have -_- vista64.. gf8800gtx.. 4 gig ram... onboard sound..
Dwarden 1125 Posted January 13, 2008 it's possible the performance drop is caused by 3rd stick running only in 64b mode (single channel) only pairs runs in 128b mode (dual channel) this ofc apply only to channels supporting this also in pairs banks interleaving is way faster than with odd numbers way to test it would be with 4 sticks (4GB) ... if the perf index indicate similar or higher than with 2 ... then you got answer
Vulture2k1 0 Posted January 13, 2008 ArmA does not run with 4 GB o_O
Placebo 29 Posted January 14, 2008 ArmA does not run with 4 GB o_O Isn't that only with Vista?
Vulture2k1 0 Posted January 14, 2008 Well the OP uses Vista...
Placebo 29 Posted January 14, 2008 I appreciate that but your previous comment seemed to imply that ArmA doesn't run with 4gb Ram no matter what OS is used.
Vulture2k1 0 Posted January 14, 2008 Yeah.. no.. sorry.. sure Arma runs great on older PCs not using Vista.. but nonetheless.. will there be a fix for the vista-4-gig-issue? with 1.09? Please look into it.. i dont think its too hard to do a workaround.. or fix.. or whatever.. i just dont want to boot my pc new every time i switch from Crysis or CoD4 to ArmA
RN Malboeuf 12 Posted January 14, 2008 it's not that good to upgrade from 2Gb to 3Gb cause with 3 ram planks your memory won't work in dual channel mode anymore Thus you _can_ get some stability and speed problems. If you really need more memory - better upgrade up to 4Gb. Ram is really cheap now anyway
.kju 3245 Posted January 14, 2008 What about 2x1 gig and 2x512 megs?
RN Malboeuf 12 Posted January 14, 2008 Quote[/b] ]What about 2x1 gig and 2x512 megs? 2/4 planks usually work in dual mode (if properly installed and MB is not too old type:)). You can check you MB manual for more details
.kju 3245 Posted January 14, 2008 Yes I know. I didn't write 2 +1, but 2 + 2. AFAIK that works. Only the pairs need to be the same size (well a bit more).
Mr_Tea 0 Posted January 14, 2008 2x512MB + 1x1GB can work in dual-channel too, if the mainboard and bios support it.
mcvittees 0 Posted January 14, 2008 Just buy two more 1GB sticks. Â Although 1GB of it will be invisible, you'll still get dual channel performance, it doesn't cost much more than one stick and you'll get the 1GB back when we all go 64bit. Â Specs: Vista 32bit 8800GTX (169.28-beta) 4GB RAM (3GB visable) E6600@2.7Ghz
