F/A-18E/F Super Hornet

Recommended Posts

Hi all, smile_o.gif

My first few posts in the BIS forums so you guys wouldnt know me at all.My brother(Ron) and i have been into OFP/ARMA for years but have never got "involved" in the Forums.

We have done many, many sound mods for all era's and Land/Sea/Air vehicles and weapons and we have a library of sounds collected over the years.I am a Ex Audio Engineer with experience in Live and Studio sound recoding/reproduction.

The point i am getting at is the Franze F18 from OFP was one of the best addons(aircraft) for OFP but like almost all addons released the Quality of sounds do no justice for the Quality of the model/s.

I would like to offer my time and experiance to you guys to get this addon to sound as good as this thing looks.I have a large number of sounds for jet aircraft, gear, canopies etc.So there are many to choose from. Some of these sounds are from F18s and are very high quality and simply would do the model justice.

I have contributed to VTE Mod just lately so i hope this might relieve you of any Trust issues with your hard work.

I will be doing the sounds for my bro and i so i might aswell offer it to you guys seeings as I would be flying the same old A10 or AV8 if it wasnt for you guys or people like yourselves.

Thanx.

And to finish off i'll say Fantastic work and cant wait to Launch one of these things off Gnats Carrier!!

will it have the standard flying physic of Harrier or Su34?

It has it's own combination of physics. Particularly, a combination between a brick and a rock. But it does fly.

well, lol, su34 has long way to take off compare to f18 which one can takes off from carriers smile_o.gif))

Keep in mind that the F18, when launched off a carrier, is launched with a catapult which shoots it up to the airspeed it needs to take off in a very short space. They are also 'caught' with tailhooks and a barrier ( aircraft arresting system ) when they land. Comparing carrier based aircraft take off and landing to a ground based aircraft is apples and oranges...

Check this for the takeoff, you can see the catapult in action here:

F/A 18 Carrier Take off

And while I couldn't find a video of the carrier based arresting system, here is a still picture of an F18 already caught and on the deck. You can see the cable that it caught drawn out to the tail hook, with several other cables laying on the deck as well

AAS

I've worked on the ground based versions of these ( Go MAAS! ) and they're pretty slick.

@ANZACSAS Steve: I'd go with the sounds man, but hit up Franze though, I'm just doing the model work thumbs-up.gif but would definitely would like some better jet and AB sounds....

Besides the Kuznetsov has a 100m takeoff with a ski jump. I've never done it in real life, but it gets you a bit nervous simulated in LOMAC, but doable smile_o.gif

@EricJ: Take the Harrier GBU of ArmA my friend. It is 100% realistic,it looks like in the reality,so you don't need to build your own.

Thank you!

Thanks but they're Franze's weapons so it's his call mate.

LAU-117 WIP:

ARS WIP:

As mentioned to HailStorm, some weapons are getting a facelift texture-wise, while some are getting redone, etc. etc.

I wouldn't suggest using ANY Arma weapons on Franze's vehicles. Mostly because its a sort of tradition.

When it came to it we liked to make everything from scratch, even if it didn't look at that great we still got the satisfaction of it being completely custom.

And in truth we weren't exactly looking to impress anybody, the function of the vehicle was the higher concern.

Yeah... Franze was wondering why I showed so much interest in it at the start of all this.  I like the SH so it kinda shows in my work, but while I'm not above using BIS textures for certain things, I sho going to create some new stuff, like this:

Arma55.jpg

Arma107.jpg

While an AGM-84D is not difficult, it shows that while not LOMAC/Black Shark quality, it's damn close, sorta.

My hope is that the ArmA community can hammer out a scripting engine that would bring realistic anti-ship missile abilities. That being for ship, land (land based missile launchers), or air units like this F/A-18E/F Superhornet.

That would encompass an active seeking sensor and guidance script system, and that the fired anti-ship missile would take on the side of the firing unit (West, East, Res) and would be treated as an aircraft unit which could be shot down.

Mando missile system might be a decent idea, but I think the best course of action would be a scripting engine made from scratch for this.

It's good to see new things being created and the bird furthered (I trust with his permission) I would however like to express a concern in terms of "credit", mostly your signature.

While it is understandable that you would want to put your name on your work the model is still mostly Franze's, I make the request that you add his name as the original creator or something to that extent, the choice is yours however.

Hope to see more and good luck, I hope you and he can coordinate the project well together.

Seriously?

Lol...then signatures for mods ought to have all the names of every member on them, instead of just that particular member of the mod, eh?

Pretty sure EricJ has already said that he is working with Franze many times. Chillax, bra.

Nah man it's good and I trust xnodunitx's opinion. He's one of the original people who worked on it (I believe anyways). It's a simple Photoshop edit man. Then again when I was working on the old OPF Aliens Dropship, Neph had no probs, but hey it's not an issue Abs thumbs-up.gif

@havocsquad: I don't know what Franze is going to do with the Harpoon to be honest with you. He approved it and mayhaps he's working on a special function or it's going to be a missile, dunno yet.

Eric

will u work together with Gnat on carrier landing system for ur f18's on his carriers? As I know he's working on Russian Kuznetsov carrier so he definitely needs su-33,s for this machine. It's also possible he might want to make Nimits as well.

It's a very possible thing, but I'm quite busy:

- Franze's Super Hornet

- Texture work for DCS: Black Shark

- Real life in a week

All in all the level of stuff has been forthcoming since I'm on leave.  Within a week?  I'll be quite busy so twenty projects at once?  I doubt it.  I can do here's and theres but nothing to fully get involved.  Maybe when one or the other is finished, I can look into it, but haven't considered it either.

And I wish it was "mine" but as stated, it's Franze's baby, I'm just growing it up a bit that's all wink_o.gif

Plus I haven't even considered an Su-33, much as I love it in LOMAC biggrin_o.gif

Clarifying a few things:

- Don't expect anything really ground-breaking and completely new with the aircraft. It started out as a simple port of the F-18 from OFP and simply got a few changes to take advantage of new functions (namely animations). It remains a OFP-based unit at heart.

- Because the nature of the aircraft is based on limits imposed by OFP, the amount of work being thrown into it (especially in scripting) will be extremely limited. I'd rather invest the time into a completely new aircraft that takes advantage of ArmA's capabilities as opposed to trying to wade through the mess of an old one.

As a result, don't expect to have an intense 99.999% realistic unit; it was ported primarily because someone asked for it by request and as a personal unit.

Yes he did however people don't always read the text and it has lead to many problems in the past that we'd rather not repeat.

Thanks for taking my request EricJ, I really appreciate it.

No sweat man smile_o.gif

Decided in all glory to try and round out the fuselage more:

Arma111.jpg

Arma113.jpg

I've also naturally started on the doors, which I found the memory LOD and copied it over, and shortly going to do a test run to see if it works.

Some success:

Arma116.jpg

Yeah I know one door is still open, but still needs tweaking, the doors seem allright so far, the middle one needing more adjustment, but overall it seems to have worked out okay.

Well after consideration and recommendation by Franze, we decided to scrap the redo of the fuselage, boiling down to it rather be completely be redone, rather than trying to "fix" the model, so regardless, it looks okay anyways.

Tailwork:

Arma114.jpg

And angled the pylons more, as they should be:

Arma117.jpg

Besides anyways, here's some reference shots eddyD for trolleys and stuff:

Heh, he always was more of a "lets redo it" rather then fix it several times kind of guy.

Are your plans mostly exterior or do they include interior as well?

Gonna try interior, mainly the ejection seat in my case.  I'm not much into to doing cockpits so the most will be that and some additional detail that I can do without totally redoing it.

And on that subject:

It's both a 1 seater and 2 seater. I try to give both some "air time" as much as possible.
