Transfering arma to new comp

Recommended Posts

I have bought a new laptop! smile_o.gif

I bought ARMA from the sproket online download thingy. Do I have to re-download from sproket or can I just transfer everything across from the old laptop?

Cheers

The main thing you'll need (besides the main folder obviously!wink_o.gif is the registry entries, I suggest searching for ArmA/Sprocket/Bohemia Interactive and anything like that and exporting all that you find.

actualy, what you can do is to burn out the 2 files ( 4 if you got qg too) on to dvd. den install it from that ( and it's also smart to do for safe keeping ) xmas_o.gif

Placebo would you mind if i create a "tool" for doing this some day?

It's just to save people the hassle of having to patch patch patch after dvd install...

Is there anyway I can 're-download' the game from the site I bought it from? Access to my old laptop is problematic...

For the 505 version its very easy...

- Copy entire ArmA folder ( like D:\Games\ArmA ) to the new pc

- Copy entire ArmA folder from My Documents ( like C:\Documents and Settings\Username\My Documents\ArmA ) to your new pc, also in My Documents for the current username!

- Export the registery. See pic for some help. http://x.cixx-online.com/x/export.JPG

- Copy the exported filename.reg to your new pc.

- Before execute the .reg be sure you have arma at the same location as in your old pc. Otherwise you need to edit the file with notepad! In a .reg file every slash \ needs to be double! like: "D:\\Games\\ArmA"

After doing this you must be able to play again smile_o.gif

Remember this is just for the 505 version.. i dont know anything about internet downloads.

I hope it will help some little

In theory any tool that serves a good cause is welcome, have to be sure that it can only be used for good not evil, but at the end of the day the final decision would be with Marek.

Hey folks .. I tried to port my arma 505 version from my first laptop to my second, but arma crashes everytime on startup when I try load it up with the following error signature:

Quote[/b] ]AppName: arma.exe AppVer: 1.5.0.5136 ModName: kernel32.dll

ModVer: 5.1.2600.2180 Offset: 0001eb33

I have copied the entire arma folder and exported the "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Bohemia Interactive Studio\ArmA" registry entries (and adjusted the paths to the new game dir) and installed the latest directx9 version.

any ideas what I could have missed ?

505 version is DVD right? if so then just reinstall the game and after that just copy all the add-ons and such over to that folder.

I had some bugs when just installing and overwritting everything ontop of it.

Now I install > patch and then ADD all the other files/folders I had for ArmA

Well the key point here is to be able to port ArmA to another machine without having to reinstall from the dvd.....

If you got (due to game-modding) 11 computers like me and regularly restore windows installations from custom backup images it really gets a pain in the ass having to reinstall all the games from the dvds .. whereas a quick registry import fixes that issue for most games quite quickly.... that's why I am looking for a way to be able to do that for ArmA too.

You may find that u may want to have one Game installed from the DISK as well when your doing CnP Install's because sometimes a patch refueses to install on a CnP install so installing it on the DVD installed machine then transfering the Contents over the CnP Install (Besides the Key file so you dont get 4 machines with the same Keys)and or the User Files
