stegman 3 Posted November 26, 2007 ***************************************** *-------------------SPOILERS----------------------* ***************************************** Sorry if this has been posted all ready (and mods lock it if it has) but shall we document the known differences between Sahrani and United Sahrani? Royal Flush is set on United Sahrani, a few years after the events portrayed in Armed Assault, right?  So I’m expecting all the Communist posters etc to be removed (I haven’t even checked, is the statue of the President still there?) I haven’t had a good look around yet, but the missions in the campaign have shown me the TV station, the POW and Lumber Camp and also the path to the rebels base (which doesn’t show up on the map oddly enough…) But what else is there?  Has the barrier / fence been removed from the border of Corazol and houses rebuilt in no mans land? Fire up the editor guys and scout it out.
Benoist 0 Posted November 26, 2007 Editors guys, he. It has hotels in some islands, as you said, the barrier, and the fence were removed from Corazol, most of the north bases are destroyed, some old buildings were re-built, the president statue was removed, thinks like that, nothing too fancy, may be the TV station, but nothing more. Drozdov 0 Posted November 26, 2007 There are still communist posters and the Bagango government building still has its communist slogan. In fact hardly anything's change to make you believe it's a unified Sahrani - check the postboxes and phone booths etc. There's another thread on this though. stegman 3 Posted November 26, 2007 ...There's another thread on this though. i was afraid of that. Do you know where it is?
-Snafu- 78 Posted November 26, 2007 Royal Flush is set on United Sahrani, a few years after the events portrayed in Armed Assault, right?  So I’m expecting all the Communist posters etc to be removed (I haven’t even checked, is the statue of the President still there?) I can't remember if the campaign specified a date of the events but I assumed it was a few months after the war (correct me if i'm wrong). This could explain the lack of reconstruction in the North. Moreover with an insurgency going on in it would be difficult to reconstruct anything. As construction workers would make easy targets and funds would be diverted to fighting the partisans instead of re-building. Thus remnants from the old Communist regime would still remain. Drozdov 0 Posted November 26, 2007 To snafu, yes I reckoned it wasn't more than a year after the end of the war. That explains the lack of rebuilding and the fact they didn't remove the metal X obstacles on the south corazol beach, but I highly doubt they wouldn't bother to remove the big roadside posters of the old communist dictator. There are two outside a military base not far from Corazol... there's no suggestion that the 'insurgency' is so bad they can't do anything even close to the old border. Heck, they even removed the statue from Bagango which would take more effort. Least they could (and would) do is paint over the Communist slogans and remove the posters. Frankly it's just bizarre laziness on the part of the island's designers. The other thread for this is here.

I'm sure it was 2 years, allthough there is no mention on the BiWiki. To snafu, yes I reckoned it wasn't more than a year after the end of the war. I love the game and am realy enjoying the expansion, but i feel a little misslead as i read somewhere this new island featured new buildings etc. Guess i was expecting more from the island, but am enjoying it anyhow. Also just found the hotel on the island.
Beagle 684 Posted November 27, 2007 Some leftovers from the communist government are O.K. and just ad to the atmosphere...even 18 years after reunification there are still lots of socialist era leftovers in eastern germany... most of them are now seen als curiosities...like the "Hotel Kosmos" in Leipzig or the sale of DDR t-shirts and FDJ-Uniforms (former east german socialist party youth organisation) that keep the thy cliché of socialistic-era-alive. It's now part of the eastern german folklorism.
Drozdov 0 Posted November 28, 2007 Yeh but I'll bet any propaganda posters were instantly taken down. In Sahrani's case the guy on the poster isn't even there any more...

Drozdov 0 Posted November 28, 2007 Would have been different if the Communists had just invaded West Germany and been defeated I reckon.

stegman 3 Posted November 28, 2007 OK, pulling this thread back on track, and away from any political upset; On Porto there is a great big huge tower (is it a mosque). Is that anywhere on United Sahrani?

The minaret on Porto is a imported VBS model and unique to this island. You know what I can't find? The ship wreck! I saw on a you tube video of the new island, Porto, a busted up, rusty ship wreck! Where’s it at? Is it not on Porto, but actually on Sahrani?
paragraphic l 2 Posted December 3, 2007 No it is somewhere north west of the coast of Porto, turn op you view distance and it would be pretty easy to spot it. If I remember correct there is another one close to the one shown on youtube

I found a few more mines / quaries in the north of United Sahrani, but basicaly there arnt many differences between it and Sahrani then? Shame. Great game though. Guess this thread has dried up.
