AI less accurate?

Title says it all. Looked around a bit, havnt had any luck. Sorry if this is in the wrong forum too btw.

Just jacks me off when the AI snipe me with an AK when im half a km away with a sniper rifle.

AI snipes you with AK not only because it "can" hit you, but because AI knows exactly milimetrically where are you

AI in ARMA is in some areas worse than in OFP :/

that's why in my addons, in weapons configs i gave for my upcoming single missions config for AI range of fire lower than BIS gave

to avoid such situations

BIS gave AI rifles range of fire max=400 meters

in my "CS" configs i gave AI for rifles without scopes 200 m

increassing dispersion (decreasing accuracy) gives not much

but i made bigger disp. too

problem is not only in not realistic weapons, but mostly in god-skilled AI (when it comes to shooting)

on other issues AI is so frustating stupid (suicide engaging one by one)

as you read technical specs about assault rifles

you will see that AK74, M16 have max effective range 500 m, M4 has 350 meters

but soldier with just "naked eye" usually uses weapons with ironsight at not more than 200 meters

i think in game such circa 250 meterst should be good for AI as almost "max" with rifles without scopes

AI god knowledge is a real problem in this game,i remeber situation from one of missions in which i had 2 soldiers as targets, i was in bush, hiding behind tree, i was 200 meters away in forest , i shot one soldier with SVD, next soldier turned maybe 150 degrees and shoot me directly :/

of course better programming-skilled addonmakers will do solutions as good as they can do on this engine

I agree that there are issues with AI's detection routines, especially the AI's ability to pin-point your exact location by hearing alone everytime you fire your (non silenced) weapon. Hopefully BIS have looked into this for the upcoming 1.09 patch.

But regarding the "AK sniping" thing why not just edit the following values in your <user name>.ArmAProfile file?

Editing those values you can make the AI as inaccurate as you wan't!

I just have to pipe in here as a mission maker:

Editing your ArmAProfile's accuracy settings like that will certainly give your whole game a new "feel" as to how accurately the AI can engage you, without needing any mods (I haven't tried it myself, so I don't know to what levels it can go). But you have to keep in mind that this can easily break missions: suddenly the balance of forces is completely different, and what was supposed to be a rout for your troops becomes a victory - or what was supposed to take about X amount of time now takes X*10 - or some cutscene or important assassination or anything else is screwed because of the new values. I remember in OFP when I played a campaign with a cutscene where someone was getting shot by a firing squad: the mission had clearly been created in good ol' OFP, but I played it in FFUR (which has increased dispersion) : the firing squad fired into the air, emptied their clips, reloaded, and kept firing. rofl.gif The cutscene never ended.

I'd be incredible happy if some team could release a bunch of addon-configs that'd add HD soldiers (that would keep the default tracers, sounds and models of the BIS weapons to make replacement packs and the like work still) having about the same dispersion as the auld JAM in OFP. Ah well... xmas_o.gif

You should check after Q1184's modified recoil addon. It's main purpose is to change the default BIS recoil and ROF, but it has a side effect of turning AI accuracy a bit down. Many players experienced that, and I can tell ya I have to reload much less time since I use this mod. yay.gif

I can recommend 2ndSuppression addon, if you pester the enemy with suppressive fire it reduces their effectiveness & aim etc. Very nice addon.
