miles teg 1 Posted October 25, 2007 Finally, with hard work from several of our mod team members (Jewish Freak, [iDF]Hayal, Diversant, SFC ITZHAK) and with assistance and work from Synide, DSA, and others, we are proud to release our first Armed Assault addon- IDF Paratroopers/Tavor rifles. If I am not mistaken, I believe this is the FIRST custom infantry model in ArmA.  I am only aware of one other customized civilian model.  If I am wrong, someone please correct me and send me a URL to any other custom infantry models that have been released.  We HAD to customize our model simply because first we are tired of retextures and second because the body armor and helmets that the IDF use are very different then what BIS uses on their models. At any rate, for really old school OFP players, you may remember that LoBo was also the first mod team to make a custom rifle in OFP (FAMAS rifle by Vipersheart who was our old leader).  We also created the first working anti-mine rollers for tanks in OFP.  So with this we are continuing a tradition of innovation in the successor of OFP: ArmA. This is a BETA so YES there are bugs.  That is why it is called a BETA.  So please don't be rude with criticisms.  We invite feedback but please don't be a-holes about it.  Also before you all complain, YES, their boots in real life are red.  Those ugly boots are symbols of pride for all Israeli paratroopers. So complain to the IDF not to us.  lol  I may try to make them a little bit more dusty in a later update so that they don't stand out so badly.  Also our next units will not have red boots. Some of you may also complain about the fact, that in real life, the paratroopers haven't been issued the Tavors yet.  However within a few years they likely will get them. So these are basically future units.  The one unit with a M4/m203 combo will be replaced with a Tavor/M203 unit.  Likewise the M249 SAW gunner, will have his LMG replaced with a Negev LMG in future updates. Other bugs/issues- No blood textures.  No shadow for Tavors.  These things will be fixed later and we will also slowly be adding new weapons and new unit types.  These units basically serve as a base model that we will develop over time.  Yes I know they are not RHS quality, but rather then complain, if you are a texture artist, we welcome ANY help doing textures as well as any addon modellers that want to join us. Anyways... without further rambling, below is the link to our pack.  Enjoy! http://www.idfsquad.com/downloads/milesteg/LoBoInfantryBeta1_0..rar Mirror courtesy of armedassault.info: http://www.armedassault.info/index.php?cat=news&id=150 Mirror courtesy of Combat-Prison.net http://prison.tibet225.server4you.de/ww2pn...._id=308 Chris G. aka-Miles Teg<GD>

talc 0 Posted October 25, 2007 Sweet! ive been waiting for some israeli models. hope to see more in the future
bugkill 7 Posted October 25, 2007 Great work! the pics don't do them justice. My only thing is that they look too much alike (despite the helmets) and a couple of the models could have used a couple of them with unbloused boots, just to mix it up a bit. Great job though! Shashman 0 Posted October 25, 2007 Nice work on releasing the first custom infantry addon. Israeli forces present us with many scenarios to use them in and will no doubt spawn some interesting and challenging missions/campaigns I don't want to offend any of the people behind this release, but to be honest, the texturing leaves quite a lot to be desired. In the second screenshot, for instance, they look like they've just been filled with olive drab, and not textured. They might fit in an OFP environment, but not in an ArmA environment, as even the most basic object shipped with ArmA looks more realistically textured than these units. Another comment I have is that all your screenshots (Miles Teg) I've ever seen have been of very poor quality. From a purely marketing viewpoint, would it not make sense to get someone with a system capable of displaying ArmA in all its glory to do the promotional shots? I don't want this post to sound mean, so I'll finish by congratulating you and your team on the idea and the effort
Daniel 0 Posted October 25, 2007 By the looks of it, the screens were taken with settings pretty low. I'd try em about before judging them. EDIT: Sorry, just read your whole post. Â EDIT2: Although the textures and models could obviously be improved, the weapons play quite nicely. Looking forward to more IDF releases.

Ok, and has anyone bothered to read the above? C'mon, it's a fine addon with custom bodies - reason enough to congratulate the makers; and to download and have a closer look; If you judge the addon by the quality of promotion screens..well... have fun.. Just one note to makers; desaturating the boots a bit would give a much better result; have compared with militaryphotos.net; and those of yours are way too red other than that - quite nice;, cheers (or shalom?) I agree that the textures can be improved ALOT but we are porting over a combination of OFP textures and rough ArmA textures. We have one member who is hopefully going to help improve the texture quality so keep your fingers crossed. Anyone else who wants to have a crack at improving them, please send me screenshots. Once we give these bad boys a makeover, I'll take some better screenshots with the resolution cranked up since frame rates don't matter too much for screenshot taking. miles teg 1 Posted October 26, 2007 That marksman guy has one pimpin' hat. Yup... its designed to break up the outline of their helmets if a sniper is trying to get a bead on their head. Chris G. aka-Miles Teg<GD>

plasman 0 Posted October 26, 2007 I agree with Shashman, models are great, must have been a lot of work, personally it took me days just to get the Bis Model working in ArmA (thanks to JB for having released his nice tutorial, it helped a lot) so I'm not too much in a position to criticize, but yes textures really need some big improvement. Fine job anyway, keep up the good work Miles Teg.

umbr44 0 Posted October 26, 2007 I tried, I Loved I expect a t-shirt. These are really good addons, and once the texture are updated abit they be... um well even more awesome. Only thing I noticed apart from the guys being the same person was that some green texturing seemed to pop through their necks if they turned their head. Once again- awesome. CameronMcDonald 146 Posted October 26, 2007 The guy's name is Toad, Shash, just Toad. Always hated him, he was the crappest jumper in Super Mario Bros 2 (I've always been a Mario fan - love the 'stache). But in any case, I'll throw in my .2 AUD and say that the legs warrant a little bit of work, since normal maps can only do so much. Some dirt, etc would be kewl. miles teg 1 Posted October 26, 2007 Great pics. Â Yeah, you see the red boots on the guy with the AT rocket sitting down. We definitely need to make ours much more tan simulating all the dust on them or at least a little browner. These are the boots when they are clean: Also notice he has a US made PASGT kevlar helmet. Â That is very rare, but occasionally due to shortages in helmet production in Israel (or budget restraints) they buy cheap PASGT helmets under the loan program they have with the US. Â The AT rocket he has on his back is either the Shipon AT rocket or a Spike SR ATGM...its hard to tell without doing a close comparison to other pics...but I think its a Shipon. Â The shipon is unguided, but has a lovely tandem-warhead design. We plan on giving both AT weapons eventually to our infantry as well as lots of other nice weapony. Some of our units will have M4 rifles as well in all their different variants with the Negev LMG being the primary squad level machine gun.

They are the ones who did the majority of the work both making the models and getting them to work in ArmA. But at any rate, thanks for the feedback. Hopefully now this will be a good kick in the ass to other addon makers and mod teams to start putting out customized models.
