Have you got punkbuster installed on your machine? I had a very similar issue which happened after a new version of Punkbuster appeared.

I doubt punkbuster has any influence on this.

I strongly suspect the problem being in the fact that the char needs to go through the whole loop of animation on a single, short press of the forward key, which makes fine tuning your position very difficult.

How long does it take to stop after you stop holding the button?

It its any longer then in this video (+-500ms) then you have some bug, otherwise its a feature.

This bug has nothing to do with the animation, the guy kept walking for about 2 minutes after I released the forward key.

Punkbuster was installed and updated by BF2, the problem only occured after a new version that ran services PBusterA & B even when BF2 wasn't running.

Uninstalling PB and then running the hoover program that you can get from PB website seems to have cured it.

I think it's some sort of buffer/keyboard bug that PB introduced - I don't play BF2 anymore so didn't want to experiment.

It its any longer then in this video (+-500ms) then you have some bug, otherwise its a feature.

In that Video you did not show the hole existing movements for the players.

I think i know what he means in the 1st topic and complains about:

Let me see if i can explain and try to transmit the issue that i also have and everybody might have.

Its important that you follow these "procedures" straight to detect the annoying issue.

1- Go to editor and create a unit (you).

2- Before you make your soldier run, put it in crouch position (1 knee down). (its important he have the crouch position selected)

3- Now start running in slow style (w key) and with the crouch position enable. When you release the keys you do not notice any slow animation.

But if you do the same thing instead of releasing the key to stop, and press your key to go prone (mine is z key) you will notice a delay in this animation.

4- Another slow animation (and the worst, IMO): Put your soldier in crouch position and start running as fast as you can (my key is E) (Default might be W*2 key) and then press your key to go prone or to hit the ground (my key is Z). When i do this the soldier takes like 2 secs to hit the ground.

Suma:

The problem is that if i start running (as fast as i can with E key or W*2) from a crouch position and then press the Key to go prone the animation takes 2 secs to do what i want. I want the soldier to "trow himself" to the ground and not lay down slowly.

Example: If i want to go prone on the next building corner using the mentioned "procedure" it will go prone 2 meters ahead that desired building corner. Probably i will be shot because the animations did Not do what i really expected.

Would be nice to see this little issue (but important to game play) fixed!

Its really annoying on intense firefight were cover and fast control of the "muppet" is really important

Er, no. I think you've missed the point - this isn't an annoying glitch in the character animation, it's a control bug that makes the game completely unplayable.

The first poster quotes a delay of several seconds before coming to a halt, I've experienced a delay of several minutes - depending on how long the movement key is held down.

While this key buffer is being emptied the mouse also become unresponsive, but returns to normal when the character finally stops walking.

I don't believe it's purely a bug in ArmA, otherwise more people would have noticed. I think it's a combination of ArmA and something else, in my case Punkbuster, and in Puma's an internet accelerator.

The topicstarter just walked, nothing else.

And i think what you are mentioning is just a transition bug (Cant be bothered to check this again), not related to this topic.

Couldn't be as simple as a joystick is plugged in and is moving forward? I get that a lot with a mixture of steering wheel and joysticks - I have to unplug the joystick for some games otherwise it behaves erratically.

Good idea but until you press a movement key the guy is motionless - if it were a joystick off centre then he would 'creep' even when a button wasn't pressed. I will try unplugging the joystick the next time this happens though (hopefully never again).

The fault I've experienced is that all mouse and controls are normal as long as the guy is perfectly still. As soon as a movement key is held down the mouse freezes and he keeps walking long after the movement key is released, like a minute or more.

that sounds like a keyboard driver issue to me

exactly has someone has said, u hold down the key which is repeating x many times, and ten when u release the key is it completing x many move forward commands till the buffer is empty.

this would explain the correlation between how long u hold it down and how long it keeps moving for.

what KB's you guys with this error got?

I had the same kind of problems with other games.. I pressed the w key.. later I stopped.. it stil moved.. when I just tapped it once, it responded a half of a second later...

and etc kind of things..

the problem with me was the graphics.. I hadn't configured the graphics in the catalyst(for the ati drivers en asus) control center..

when I witched everything related to performance or that the application managed everything itself, the problem was gone..

but.. on some games it was a problem with my computer.. it just couldn't handle the game propperly.. (my processor was a bit too hot back then)

there might be more problems, and more fixes

but try to open the case on one side and do something about the cooling(I'm not concluding you have a bad pc wink_o.gif other than I just ask you to test if it works), like putting a ventilator in front..(or just leave this, because I don't think that's the problem..xD)

and/or try to change the graphics a bit.. also the graphics ingame, try put it to the lowest graphics, does the problem still happen?
