fps very low

Recommended Posts

Lo all, this is my 1st post so please be gentle.

I got Arma a couple of months ago and it ran like a dog on my new pc.

It then works out i had some dodgy ram so thats now been sorted and it ran loads better.(even ran Stalker ok)

I then read somewhere that the new patch was fantastic, made it run lots better. Patched 1.05 then up to 1.08 and it now runs worse than ever, almost unplayable with very stuttery movement ,especially if theres any gunfire going on.

My system specs are:

AMD 64X2 5200. nvidia 7100 gs with driver 6.14.10.9371with 512 mb of onboard ram, windows xp with sevice pack2,sony dvd rw aw -G170a and realtek high definition audio.

Hope thats enuff info. If ya need anything else give us a shout and i'll post it as soon as.

Iv'e trawled the forums for hours and have information overload tbh.

So many problems peeps have had

with Arma.

So please, please, please help as i'm very confused and a litlle frustrated.

Cheeers all , matt help.gifbanghead.gif

Your PC Spec's are'nt too bad ... hell mine where worse until I upgraded. When you say low FPS, how low are we talking here?

Have you tried changing the graphics settings and resolutions, both higher and lower?

Do you have too many processes running, does your PC have Spyware Virus that could be using system resources? How big is your HDD?

This should get the ball rolling smile_o.gif

Lo infamous, thx for the reply, exact framerate i'm not sure.

I read that some peeps uses fraps to record fps but i aint got it.

I read on earlier forum messages about the benchmark test so i ran itif its any help:

my ofp mark was 928.282 broken down as follows

1. 6.87019

2. 9.65477

3. 11.9531

4. 8.27586

5. 9.66023

Hope this helps. I have changed all sorts of settings on and off.

So, many post say opposite things it seems, from antiastropic filtering high, to disabled, the same for anti alliasing(if thats how ya spell it).

I tried turning vsync off in nvidia control panel ,struggled finding it mad_o.gif (story of my life)

Ive got a 250gig sata hardrive.

Due to avin a really crap pc for so long, I automatically turn off all background programs off before doin anything on pc in Task Manager, although Iave Mcafee runnin with virusware, spyware, firewall, email virus on at all times.

Cheers matt

I`d bet it`s the 7100 GS, that causing the bad frame rate.

An update in that place could do wonders. wink_o.gif

Thanks for the replys,

I completely agree with you. I f I could afford to go out and buy a top notch billybollux videocard i would go out and get one tomorrow, unfortunately I ave other thing to spend my spare cash on( wife and kid).

Theres a thread thats pinned at the very beginning of these forums called Hardware tips/tricks and solutions. Jack who wrote it only uses a g6800 and he says it runs, alrite not with whacked upto top setting admitedly, but it ran it.

So, can i get what ive got working with Arma?

I'd really like to play it. The training ran ok.Its only when im in woods and ai are on the screen that it runs pants.

Cheers for your help matt

Just because it runs like crap on your system doesnt mean it runs crap on everyone else's, and i have worse specs then you. (And ive no idea why you posted this here, if you call 7100 high end then.. Well.. You are strange.. tounge2.gif )

(What dust?)

any rig will have probs with missions on the north. Don't really want to play on north maps. its just strange that sometimes u get 30 FPS in north and sometimes 12FPS.

The 7100 is the low end of the 7000 series, the price is ~30€ atm.

An 7600GS with 512 MB that runs ArmA fine for me, can be found ~100€.

That`s not much for an card, that runs other games very good too. wink_o.gif

Jack UK's upgraded to a 1900XT mate smile_o.gif

But yeah, in your situation what would be best is to tweak your PC hardcore. Check the internet, also Virus and such use a lot of system recourses, perhaps disable them until you stop playing temp?

Just in general tweak the PC so that more power can go to ArmA and this hould help you until you can upgrade smile_o.gif

because the 6800(any version) is 10x better than your 7100.

Your 7100 can run Stalker( well at low low ect) because stalker is about 10x times more optimized AND less complicated engine than (Arma has much much more going on) Arma.

Someone say my name? ^^

Check out my sticky thread if you havent already to help tweak your hardware and settings: http://www.flashpoint1985.com/cgi-bin....t=56898

But dont expect to get much performance out of your card at all. I started playing the ArmA demo on a Radeon 9550 :O my lord it was crap. I bought an X1950 PRO 512mb and now i can run it mostly on high =)

The best card i would reccommend right now would be the Geforce 7950GT 512mb, as 8800s still dont have that good drivers, but they are getting better.. but they're expensive as hell.

I've officially decided that tweaking and stuff just drives u mad. I have almost accepted that this game dosent run good at any rig.

edit: well maybe on quad core+12gb of ram and a quad 8800.

(and still lag when looking at grass)
