ThePredator 0 Posted May 28, 2007 Those are scratches. I can't imagine a brand new AH-1Z already got those...Or a TOW thermal optical gunsight... Even if a tank had scratches on the lenses, you won't see them due to focus. We have depth-of-field in ArmA but not for the lenses?
INNOCENT&CLUELESS 0 Posted May 29, 2007 Ok, for all hard core supporters of heavily scratched optics: I also want a special RL-LOW MAINTENANCE PACK: - all barrels with a 90 degree bend, - the chamber is totally corroded - ammo is wet - all engines without oil - sand in gear boxes - wheels are flat - tracks falling from rollers every 20m - copter rotor disintegrates generally short after take-off Will be much more fun. I have nothing against scripts, adding some of those issues during a mission (except the bend and the sand thingy )but I do not want to suffer from assumed low maintenance. I want to have a T72 fresh out of the factory, altering to old is part of modding. I want to play with an 1984er T72 also virtually in 1985.
NoRailgunner 0 Posted May 29, 2007 Would be nice if BIS can implement some scratches and malfunctions during battle fights. Only in camp/base you could repair/change those optics.... Maybe BIS only thought about little atmosphere with scratched optics.
max power 21 Posted May 29, 2007 Furthermore, it's not the lenses that are scratched but the lense protectors.
Dwarden 1125 Posted May 29, 2007 i agree the optics should be in better shape (or get option to clean them lol look at ROO they cleaned up optics on some tanks due to increased visibility range over 1500m ...
INNOCENT&CLUELESS 0 Posted May 29, 2007 Can we close this thread with a link to http://www.flashpoint1985.com/cgi-bin....t=63481 in the closing message?
NoRailgunner 0 Posted May 29, 2007 ..another poll out of 100? got an idea what the next poll could be. Should BIS release some mod-tools: a) ...immediately? b) ...with next patch? c) ...stable & final extra release asap? Write/vote for this minor thing in bugtracker too! ThePredator 0 Posted May 29, 2007 @INNOCENT&CLUELESS : What is this poll supposed to be? Either write a neutral question or delete this thing. This is childish, really, what do WW2 tanks have to do with ArmA? We are talking about modern combat and even russian tank crews knew how valuable their optics were. North Sarahni is not even russian at all, just with eastern weaponry. this thread was closed once because of such behaviour, so what's your problem anyway? I'd like to discuss this matter maturely. ID7 0 Posted May 29, 2007 Can we close this thread with a link tohttp://www.flashpoint1985.com/cgi-bin....t=63481 in the closing message? The problem is not new vs. used optics, but rather realistic vs. not realistic. The current depiction of gunner's/commander's sight in ArmA is not realistic. The dirt/scratch layer should be defocused, not sharp and full of details.

INNOCENT&CLUELESS 0 Posted May 29, 2007 ID7`s suggestion I see as part of the first choice, I would leave that to the addonmakers as long as the enablers in the engine supporting this. But when I open the editor and select a BI standard T72/M1A1/whatever, I want to have a brand new optic because the mission I want to create assumes excellent maintenance or it plays just a few months after the actual production of the item in question. And since BI does not know this in advance, it is better to deliver with brand knew optics and leave it to the addon/mission maker to add "ageing" to the equipment. Maybe the next mission should play with a T72 in 2088? What damage you want to add to this? or shall BI make an addon considering production date + maintenance coeff + mission date? opteryx 1562 Posted May 29, 2007 If an old T-34-85 can keep it's optics relatively free from dust and scratches I think a M1A1 should certainly not have a problem with it.
dm 9 Posted May 29, 2007 I think we've all established that the optics are "too dirty", and we've all established the technical reasons behind it (that the objects on the lens arent in focus, thus you cant see them.
INNOCENT&CLUELESS 0 Posted May 29, 2007 Ok, if you want now that it should be changed in one of the next patches, please vote in the poll accordingly, if I see enough supporters, I will make a CR in the BTS. I hesitate to do it now since I am not sure if it is not only me and a few more requiring this.
