bravo 6 0 Posted May 22, 2007 yoda, can you use the ATI tools with that version? Well i don't know if all people can, but it works here. I did something quite risky: -Installed the omega's with 7.3. -Then used changed graphic driver in device manager to 6.7 ... I can set a lot of the settings higher, but i prefer a bit less detail and a more fluent game. Framerates between 60 - 30 can you please explain better the procedure you mentioned? I installed the omega drivers, now how do i change it to run 6.7?
max power 21 Posted May 22, 2007 What is the point of using omega drivers at all? ...and then what is the point of messing around by switching between driver versions between 2 different driver vendors? What is it that you think you are going to achieve? Using the x1xxx cards with version 6.7 or something? I hope you don't completely mess up your windows install trying to uninstall all that junk when ATI eventually fixes the leak. When you start overwriting and combining things, there will be no clean way to get rid of them unless you're some registry hacking guru.
kklownboy 43 Posted May 22, 2007 Ok, I just ran the 7.4s, which are real nice. but no CF, sooo i uninstall them through the AddRemove, AND delete the 7.4 folder in the ATI folder/ Support. I remove both the CCC and the Display driver, reboot, install the 7.2s After canceling the 4 popup install wizards. I choose custom install, only installed the Display and CCC. rebooted. Open up the CCC set my Arma settings: "No AA, No AF. No Vsynch( to test Frames) No addaptive, AI on High." Start up Arma 107b to the hl2.exe, get the same frames as the 7.4. End the game, open CCC turn on CF, wait out the long ass flash (7.2 is long). Fire up Arma(hl2.exe) ... crap error, restart again ...error!, Shut down, and reboot rig. fire up Arma(hl2.exe) good to go dbl my frames!. This maybe a only good for 1950xtx cards, or you may need to reboot. I got the error because the last time i ran Arma, it was with out CF in the SAME windows session, so Arma couldnt reset its self. I installed the omega drivers, now how do i change it to run 6.7? B6 I once posted a detailed tutorial on this forum on how to do it. Unfortunately i can't find it back, do forgive me but i can't be arsed into retrying the whole thing step by step and posting it. (I allready did that and i'm lazy) Don't know why BIS decided it was to be deleted? Maybe they had some database troubles and lost some posts? Let's just hope ATI brings better drivers. The walkthrough involved: -starting the 6.7 setup. -then u get a folder C:\ATI\SUPPORT\6-7_xp-2k_dd_34826\2KXP_INF -then u go to device manager and change driver, select the inf file, browse for the x1900 series driver -repeat step for secondary, using secondary x1900 series driver Again, sorry but that's as detailed as i can go from the top of my head. Yoma 0 Posted May 23, 2007 Is it just me or are the handle leaks not that big a deal?I've got what would be considered an affected system: Intel e6600/2gb ram/x1950xt/cat 7.4 drivers Arma v1.05b - video settings set to 'high' Yes, I notice the threads are double or triple more than other games but in-game I don't notice any significant or noticeable changes - even after an hour or so of playing. Â Sometimes I notice slight LOD problems when coming out of a scoped zoom view but it snaps back to normal very quickly and otherwise my gameplay is always very smooth. Â Possibly having 2gb of ram helps negate the handle leak? Â I dunno. What kind of effects would a bad handle leak produce? I wouldn't want to play it with the handle leaks again. When i install the 7.4 drivers my arma is twice as laggy and has much much much more lodproblems. In short: You'd probably be amazed what it would run like without the handle leaks. By the way 15000 handles is not double or triple what other games give. 15000 is about double what my ENTIRE WINDOWS uses. You don't need to be a professor to see that that's absolutely not the way it's supposed to be. I also think that having a good cpu (like you have) might negate the problem. Then again who knows what extra stunts the ai might be pulling off with those lost clock cycles.... ALL USERS: IF YOU ARE NOT UP TO IT (KNOW HOW TO RESTORE STUFF WITH GHOST etc) DON'T FIDDLE AROUND WITH DRIVERS THAT AREN'T MEANT FOR YOUR VGA. YOU MIGHT END UP WITH A NONBOOTING OR VERY SCREWED SYSTEM.

Deranged 0 Posted June 6, 2007 IF the 7.5 drivers when released (any day now) still have no mention of ARMA and the handle leak can we all please hound, complain, abuse the ATI AMD website, phonelines, forums so that they fix this problem as it is doing my nut in. An alternative would be to visit the ATI site and subscribe to this topic 737-27293: Radeonâ„¢ Series - Armed Assault: Handle count leak maybe noticed during game play in Task Manager. It could be the number of customers subscribed to a topic influences what gets priority. Just received an email from ati with a hotfix for 737-27293. http://support.ati.com/ics....D=27293 Downloading now.
Nicolas Eymerich 0 Posted June 7, 2007 Do I have to upgrade to 7.5 and then install the fix, or is just sufficient to install the file? (I've Catalyst 7.2)

TankCommander 3 Posted June 7, 2007 Can I just ask what happens typically with a handle leak? I know what one is but with Arma what does it do so I can figure out if I'm getting one so I can fix it.
bravo 6 0 Posted June 7, 2007 Can I just ask what happens typically with a handle leak? I know what one is but with Arma what does it do so I can figure out if I'm getting one so I can fix it. Handle Leaks: Quote[/b] ]From Wikipedia, the free encyclopediaA handle leak is a type of software bug that occurs when a computer program asks for a handle to a resource but does not free the handle when it is no longer used. If this occurs frequently or repeatedly over an extended period of time, a large number of handles may be marked in-use and thus unavailable, causing performance problems or a crash. The term is derived from memory leak. [edit] Causes One cause of a handle leak is when a programmer mistakingly believes that retrieving a handle to an entity is simply obtaining an unmanaged reference, without understanding that a count, a copy, or other operation may actually be being performed. An example of this might be retrieving a handle to the display device. Programmers might use this handle to check some property (e.g. querying the supported resolutions), and then simply proceed on without ever releasing the handle. If the handle was just a pointer to some data structure with no additional management, then allowing the handle to pass out of scope would not cause an issue. However, in many cases, such handles must be explicitly closed or released to avoid leaking resources associated with them; the exact requirements for what must be done with a handle varies by interface. Source Link The problem "handle leaks", in Portuguese "N de indentificadores". How to see the hadle leaks: 1 -> ctrl + alt+ del 2 -> ("Task manager" ou "Gestor de tarefas do windows") 3 -> ("view" ou "ver") 4 -> ("select colums" ou "seleccionar colunas") 5 -> (select the "Handle Leaks" ou "N identificadores") Bottom of line: The Handle Leak lags alot the game after some time of game play. DuTTuN 0 Posted June 7, 2007 It works! I have over stable 400 handles or so, they don't increases. Im using Club3D 1950Pro 512Mb with Catalyst 7.5 plus the hotfix and last version of the Ati Tools. Now i have MUCH less LOD problems and, i think, a significant FPS boost. In Spanish: 1 -> ctrl + alt+ del 2 -> Administrador de Tareas de Windows 3 -> Ver 4 -> Seleccionar colunas 5 -> Recuento de identificadores
TankCommander 3 Posted June 7, 2007 Thanx bravo 6 Don't think I get that with my HIS X1950Pro but may give it a go anyways after updating my driver for possible fps increase.
