try uninstalling 7.4 cat and installing 7.3 cat.

i've got a x1900xt with 4gbs ram and vista ultimate 64 and get the black screen with dark gray background. iirc it started with 7.4.

e6600 cpu, asus cpu cooler

4 gbs gskill

gigabyte n650sli-ds4 F5 mobo (onboard audio and virtualization disabled in bios)

x1900xt 512 mb

dx9 april '07 build

catalyst 7.4 vista driver

audigy se sound card 1.04.0061

fortron epsilon 700 watt psu

vista ultimate 64 patched up with security, no optional (except for dreamscene)

uac and driver sig disabled

ati tray tools instead of ccc - hi perf for texture and mipmap, no gfx overclock, ati hotkey active

liteon dvd burner

1 pata and 2 sata hard drives

nec accusync 900 monitor

i'd test it myself but i run opengl programs and 7.3 cat's opengl did really nasty things to my system (not to mention i applied the arma 1.07b patch and found out i don't have any sprocket activations left <sigh>)

i do have dualboot with xp on my d drive and arma ran normally under xp.

Got the same problem sad_o.gif

Running the following specs:

AMD Athlon64 X2 6000+

4GB Geil DDR2 Ram

Asus M2R32-MVP Motherboard

ATI HIS 2900XT Graphics Cards (2 in Crossfire configuration)

SoundBlaster Xifi Fatality Pro

Windows Vista x64 Ultimate

I am runnning the drivers from the Graphics Card install CD 7.4? with the lastest 2900XT patch from the ATI/AMD website.

If I try and run 1.05 release I get a black screen, if I run the latest 1.07 beta I get the same graphics corruption as the scrren shot in Darkyyy's post.

Any ideas what we can do to fix the above problem, I have the German Release version and have also used up all of my activations. icon_rolleyes.gif

Thanks,

Royce

Not sure that it'd be your Catalyst drivers causing this...I ran just fine in Vista Ultimate 32 with both the Catalyst 7.4's and 7.5's

darkyyy!

sort of a good news bad news thing...

i found out how to run arma on vista64 with a radeon card!

uninstall everything catalyst: driver, ccc, and wdm. it'll run.

it's a bit jerky when i move fast, but by golly it runs. there's no dark/black screen.

(x1900xt, e6600, 4 gbs ram, vista64 ultimate)

how does it run with out a video driver?

windows uses a stock vid driver.

i didn't try the ms radeon driver you can dl through winupdate - those used to be worse than cat's. i don't know if that would work better than the stock driver for arma or not.

so this is a video driver problem or a vista 64 problem or a arma problem i would like to know who to bitch to. and uninstalling all my video drivers sounds kinda lame might do it for fun but there has to be a driver fix some where?

i wasn't recommending it. i run other apps that most definitely do benefit from catalyst drivers. for example stock doesn't do well with opengl.

i would guess it's a catalyst driver problem, since arma does not run at all with catalyst and does at least run without catalyst. i'm not an expert and don't even pretend to sound like one, like those guys who read a bunch of webpages, so i can't say for sure what the problem is.

for right now our best bet is to dual-boot xp (if you have it). or get an 8800...

but by all means complain to ati. :-)

I can near as dammit confirm this as an Catalyst/Vista64 driver bug.

My friend runs Vista64 with a Nvidia 7600GT and it works "fine"

I have tried Catalyst/Vista32 and Catalyst/XP64 and both of those do not have the problem.

I have yet to try the new 7.5 drivers as I got fed up with being unable to play Arma under Vista64 and reloaded XP64.

Darkyyy,

What is your screen refresh rate set at for your desktop?

You may want to try lowering it to 60 Hertz, and test ArmA.

I have almost same problem, with XP:

<img src="http://www.directdelivery.org/arma 2007-06-13_00-26-25-00.png" border="0">

Does anyone know what's wrong?

Your picture isn't working ^^

I dont think anyone knows whats wrong. but i think its best to keep these kinds of threads on the front page, the more viewers, the more likely someone will give us a fix.

ATI released new drivers today, 7.6, check them out if you have a ATI GPU.
