Army Eight Point?

Recommended Posts

Ok this games US forces are for the most part US Army correct? because the only service that wears those gray style ACUs is the Army. So I made an interesting catch...why do some of the units such as the "Drill Instructor" (also a flaw in the army it is a "Drill Seargent"  tounge2.gif ) wear an eight point cover? Last I checked (last week) the Army did not wear eight point covers. I wonder why they chose to use them?

I took a screen to show you, it is a slightly modified version but eight points...

@GunnerMan1

Yes (as was mentioned) thats not a new thing. Pointing out flaws in ArmA has been going on for some time now.

@Frederf

Your post is worse. It's stupid.

Apparently he is also wearing a marine cap. There is lots of army and marine crossover in this game.

Can we try to be a bit more understanding - especially when it is someone's first post. At least don't be a dick.

The attitude which has developed on these forums is getting on my nerves.

Imo, mixing US army and marine etc is a good idea when most of the rest of the game is complete fiction. Arma is not supposed to be an encyclopedia.

Uniforms are an error I can easily live with, Arma has far more pressing issues than uniforms, even though I would of never known about it.

@Frederf...

Stupid post, have a bit of respect.

I think the reason the uniforms are wrong is because BIS started working on VBS 2 first, so what they did is take the beta of VBS 2 gave it a new name (Armed Assault) added a suitable price tag and retextured a bunch of stuff. So the infanty in game are marines retextured to look like army, and the harrier even says marines on the side.

So when everyone starts bitching about how there is no 3d editor and no weapon recoil animations BIS can take this information and add it to VBS. Pretty damn smart if you ask me biggrin_o.gif

BIS doesn't work on VBS2. BIA does.

The harrier says marines on the side because it's a marine harrier. It even says so in the game's storyline. The national guard (???) styker brigade is reinforced by the marines, ergo the ah-1 and av-8b. There is even AI dialogue about it.

The popular theory is that these units came from vbs2 assets at some point, though.

I think your second paragraph is completely false, though.

Im sorry, I did use the search, I searched for 8 Point cover, eight point found nothing of relavance. It dosent bother me(the flaws) I could care less I just found it funny because of the rivalry of the sort between the Army and Marine Corps. What I dont understand is if it so old and no one wanted to hear about it why did you even reply and keep it on the front page longer? Wouldnt it make more sence just to let it die? Meh I guess we have not developed that kind of discipline yet icon_rolleyes.gif

I haven't gotten my copy of ArmA yet, as my new computer hasn't arrived, but I just had a quick question...

If I'm reading you correctly, the storyline involves a National Guard Stryker unit? If so, that's freakin' outstanding. There are currently only 6 Stryker brigades in the US Army, and only one of those is a National Guard unit (28th ID, 56th BDE). I happen to be in that unit, and having my unit represented in a game would be badass beyond words.

Does the game happen to give the unit's identity, or maybe the keystone patch or something? I'll find out later this month, I suppose, but just hearing it would be awesome.

Sorry for being OT... crazy_o.gif

no there is no direct plot saying that what unit it is in(only a fictional unit sign), but since there is only a few number of Stryker "acturally" deployed on the island, and the fact that they are still using M1A1, the best guess would be a National Guard(as the rest of the US are in war with terror, and i think they only have limit number of M1A2/A1HA in the Guard i think, correct me if i am wrong), but its not limited to that

I'm going to ignore the implication you're making that the National Guard isn't involved in the war on terror and simply thank you for answering the question I asked. So thanks.

PS - Over 40% of US forces in Iraq and Afghanistan are Guard or Reserve forces. biggrin_o.gif

Edit -

and i think they only have limit number of M1A2/A1HA in the Guard i think, correct me if i am wrong

Negative, we have a good number of Abrams and Apaches at our disposal. As far as the quality of these units go, I couldn't say, as I've never been part of an Armored or Aviation unit. wink_o.gif

I read somewhere that it was intended to be a national guard unit finishing up training the south sahrani, like they're doing in afganistan. According to how it goes, some were late leaving and were there when the north attacked, and the rest plays out as you play the game smile_o.gif

I don't think the unit is identified in the game. It's not that specific... it's whatever army unit used marine gear, heh.

I went looking for where I might have heard that they were national guard.. didn't really find anything official, just a lot of talk about it. What I read before may not have been official or anything.

edit: scratch that:

http://community.bistudio.com/wiki/ArmA:_Military_Forces

looks like the blackhawks are national guard:

Quote[/b] ]

# (-) National Guard, 28th Infantry Division, 2nd Battalion - 104th Aviation ([[2]])

* 1 X UH-60 "Blackhawk"

* 2 X UH-60 "Blackhawk" (FFAR)
