JeRK 0 Posted May 5, 2007 Sorry for the stupid title, it just had to be The Harrier rolls with incredible speeds, as you all should know. I don't know about you, but it makes flying one very darn tricky ride for me and my joystick. In it's current state it feels, as the title says, like doing barrel rolls in a Star Fox game just without the control. Will this be fixed? Also, my first post here. Be nice
bootleg soldier 2 Posted May 5, 2007 Nothing wrong with your post so people will be nice to you I agree 100% not ever having flown a plane my opinion is just speculation but i have to concentrate very hard to stay in the air and your right it does seem very twitchy, i tried lessening the sensitivity on my joystick but that just made it hard to react quickly, if anyone has experience with flying could you tell us what the sensitivity of the controls of similar planes (or even harriers) is like Best regards Bootleg
wipman 1 Posted May 5, 2007 Hi, well Jerk... the flyight model should be updated in future patches, let's hope that it be for good; but keep in mind that make a plane do a circle in the air... takes kilometers, even for a harrier. Only certain planes and others capable of do certain maniouvers, can do circles in less than 1Km. The only bad point of the planes, is the FOV (Field Of View), that they need alot for be effective; the flyight model improvement that i'll ask for, is to remove the mixed planes & choppers controls, so i could accelerate with the up arrow key & slow down with the down arrow key; instead use the Home & End keys for do this (like in the helicopters) i haven't a joystick and i'm not a spider. Let's C ya
JeRK 0 Posted May 5, 2007 Well I've played LOMAC and IL2 quite often and there's no plane that spins like that. Not the Spitfire nor the A10 and not even the Su27. Hey Bootleg, didn't I play with you yesterday?
bootleg soldier 2 Posted May 5, 2007 Yes you did and i apologise for not noticing the name of the poster ie you , was a good game wasn't it, ended up losing connection with host thats why no goodbye , hope to see you around soon and hopefully i can improve my Laser Desig bombing , Did you manage to finish the mission? KJAM 0 Posted May 5, 2007 Thats why I like using my keyboard and mouse to fly. Keyboard for large direction changes (pitch yaw etc etc) and mouse for fine adjustments
Beagle 684 Posted May 7, 2007 Just forget about flying without a decent controler and your problems are gone. Aircraft time ist sticktime. It's like trying to play the infantry part without mouse.
MamiyaOtaru 1 Posted May 7, 2007 I couldn't tell you if the Harrier's roll rate is accurate, but the T-38's my father used to fly as an instructor (training planes! did two barrel rolls per second. One of the reasons they wore helmets was to protect their head when it smacked the glass on going into a roll. Planes in a lot of flight sims (at least back when I played flight sims a decade or more ago) roll glacially compared to real life, and a plane with realistic values takes some getting used to. That said, I haven't even tried Arma's Harrier yet, and as said, I have no idea how they perform IRL. Just saying, it's roll rate might not be too far off. max power 21 Posted May 7, 2007 The best source I could find (and it isn't that good) claims that the actual roll rate of the av-8b Harrier II is limited to 360 degrees per second. Looking at the aircraft, it seems like it would like to roll, given the dramatic anti-hedral.
frederf 0 Posted May 7, 2007 The alerons seem be very on/off and sensitive in the Harrier exspeciatally while pulling back on the stick.
