Tracer

Recommended Posts

nvm confused_o.gif lol, What you should do is use the regular tracers, just make them larger, or brighter depending on the round, and then when they ricochet have some of them turn into the ball tracer, that would be sweet.

it doesn't work most of the time for me. Is it designed to work even with modded weapon configs to change tracer colour etc?

Or with a changed tracer.paa texture file?

In my opinion this mod is pointless without being able to remove the old tracers.

@fireship, i agree with u, about the old tracer still visible. during OFP days, we can disable bis tracer in difficulty setting. but in arma disabling that does not do anything. sure bis will fix that someday

@overkill, i try to make a video last nite, but it seems when i made a video using fraps, the tracer will be invisible. a bug i suppose on my end. another bug i just noticed is that the tracer wont be visible if we shoot in low FPS environment like bushes, forests and at the sea... so rite now, i think it is pointless to continue. i'll try and post some screenshot

i'll released my final version in a few. hope someone will pick it up and continue. or maybe someone could port bn880 amazing tracer. that one use camcreate, so wont have invisible tracer in low FPS environment i think...

my only gripe over bn880 tracer is that bn880 tracer doesnt glow.. hehehe

Thanks for the screenies looks good, all you gotta do now is get them on a par with the new VBS2 tracers nener.gif

VBS2 Vid

Only jokin biggrin_o.gif  though thats the bench mark we need to get to if we wanna stick two fingers up to BIS and say it's ok we'll finish your game off for ya biggrin_o.gif, you can keep your pencil tracers crazy_o.gif

Also (i don't know if you have done this downloading now) but you should make an example mission with it (i know it's easy but it'll save you answering same q's over and over again), just line up assorted vehicles and weapon crates so people can jump straight in and view.

Keep up the good work

Best regards

Bootleg

There is a way to deactivate the BIS tracers, actually 2 ways.

1# In the weapon config replace all the "tracerColor[]" colours with x,x,x,0.0 (x being the number it was already). This makes the tracers invisible when "veteran" difficulty is set.

2# Alter the "tracer.paa" file in ca/data/data and modify the lpha channel so that the tracer is completely transparent.

Then you should be able to use just your tracers. I thought it wasn't working for me, but thats probably because of my framerate. Have you thought of trying combining the camcreate tracers with yours? Then you would have the best of both. Again I can help if needs be.

PS re the VBS trailer - yes this is what you should use to decide what your tracers should look like - real footage may be unreliable due to ghosting by the bright tracers. Notice in particular the size of the tracers used by the IFV/APC!

Are you able to add sparks eminating from the barrel also? This is something I haven't seen in many games, but is more visible than muzzleflash. Check on YouTube for the specific look of them with each weapon.

The only difference in engine and effects I saw in the VBS2 video is the tracers and I believe that BI could add them later on with a patch to ArmA. They could have been developed at the very end, just before VBS2 was released and because of that they didn't make it to ArmA. After all, its just a small visual thing and has no relationship to the real differences between the two products such as the amount of vehicles, AI and software/hardware intercommunication.

Well enterable vehicles (as in walk up a ramp of an apc) was developed long ago for VBS1 and that was never released for OFP, same for destruction model for buildings, so don't hold out too much hope sad_o.gif

I suppose VBS2 must have distinctions from Arma so that military organisations will choose it. BIS need the money, and whats better, the USMC buying an enterprise licence worth possibly millions, or them telling all their recruits to buy Arma?

I assume they know there is a good modding community here and so they know its not hard for us to implement these features.

yes, i know i can alter bis tracer transperancy in the weapon config, just dont like the hassle.. hehehe

about camcreated tracer, i'll try about it during weekends. i think i figured out why some people didnt see this tracer. my arma settings, terrain setting i set to very low, to disable grass. then i try to enable it, my tracer then cannot be seen. maybe it's framerate or, my tracer just crap. not flexible enuff...

hope someone can help

Well its pretty easy to do the things I've mentioned, especially if you have a specialised notepad editing program like "notepad++".

I have already done both on my copy of Arma to test a few things, I can send you one or both if you like.

on problem tracer not appearing:

i think i can confirm tracers not appearing is caused by FPS/video settings

my settings:

view distance 1200m

everything on max except AA disabled and terrain detail very low(no grass)

tracer is visible

tried other settings

everything on normal, except AA(disabled) and postprocessing on low

tracer is visible.

so if u cannot see the tracer, try lower the settings one by one and try fire away and see if the tracer is visible.

do some research - you've spammed the forum with your insight to vbs, when 90% of the time you've been awfully mis-informed.

Walking up the ramp of an apc, chinook, whatever is perfectly possible in ofp since resistance - go check out the bas MH47 and you're quite capable of walking up the ramp. All it requires is a roadway lod.

destruction in buildings is already in arma - check the vbs2 video out again, they are the same destructions - just a lot of smoke and then some rubble left behind

Well sorry for spamming in your eyes, but I think I was mostly right:

I would include moving about in a vehicle when its in transit, which as far as I know is not possible in OFP/Arma but was made possible in one of the modules for VBS1

In regards to destructible buildings, if you read closely I was talking about a destruction model for buildings, not them just falling down. This was also released in a module for VBS1 - you could blow a man sized hole in a building and it would destruct realisticly, with cracks etc. visible in the building I think.

Great work!

Does anyone know how to enable tracers on all units by adding an eventhandler in config.bin? confused_o.gif
