We are willing to fix any memory leaks that might be left in OFP code, but currently we do not have evidence nor indication of any such leaks. If you are able to provide some more information, I will gladly investigate the issue.

What is normal memory usage of your sever? How does it change during the time server is running?

out of 384 megs it peaks at 200 megs, other claim up to 700 megs but I have never see that

I can view the server online or from the office and and thats the max we get

if it's used all day it's fine

if it's not used, then 3 hours later it stops and win XP posts that it's out of resident memory

the more this happens the more I can tell you, seems every morning it's like that

in a week the ram will be 2 gigs DDR and the CPU a 1.8 ghz XP athlon

we'll see how that goes

but tommow I install NT on the machine

I'm running OF dedicated on an Athlon XP 1900+, Windows 2000 server, with 1.5GB ram and I have never noticed it taking up an inordinate amount of RAM.

Running emulation may cause issues though. You might want to try just running a vanilla NT server or Win2K server and test that.

This sound very strange. Are you able to check what happens with OFP and system memory during those 3 idle hours? What is the memory used as viewed by Task manager or Peformance monitor?

I have been able to reproduce this problem. It is related to light-source management.

It can happen anytime when playing on dedicated server during night, especially when playing on south-west corner of Malden. It also happens when some mission is played on that part of Malden and then the server is left sitting idle. As time simulation advances (which happens even when no players are connected) it will eventually come into night time and the bug will appear.

One server admin (Corwin) sent us context.bin which showed memory error occured in Scene::DrawVolumeLight called from Scene::SelectActiveLights ... and the rest was easy.

My server crashes daily. I created a new mission is set in the night on Jungle everon. After playing the mission the server will crash after it sits idle.

When it crashes once and a while I receive insert disk into cdrom with the dedicated server.

Wow, so my context.bin helped crack that eh? (my real name is Corwin). If it's caused by light sources on Malden it must be due to a couple of missions that I have that advance day and night a bit more quickly than normal so as to have a shorter "day" cycle. This must've set it up. But, yeah great investigative work. This game is so chock full of stuff, that searching for bugs must be pretty difficult.

We haven't played those missions much lately, so that may be why I haven't seen the same issues lately.

Can you please list all the missions you think may be causing these memory leaks Karrillion? I have some of your maps on our dedicated server and we get mem leaks occasionally. I have software automatically closing the error and restarting the server so it doesnt' stay down but it is still something that i'd rather didn't happen.

I am running a max 24 peep, dedicated 1.49 server on a AMD1800XP 512mb fast ram running win2k pro. I run the pro version because we get less errors with it than the server version. The only errors other than mission errors are memory errors..and those happen ONLY very rarely. Most of those mem errors are when the game/OS tries to access mem area 00000000(whichever it is) I had alot of crashes earlier do to the settings that were changed in the .cfg. Since we 'tweaked'(if you can call it that smile.gif ) the server, the crashes are few and far in between. So I suggest you tweak the settings, I do not believe its just the game.
