I doubt the US would have much trouble aquiring russian stuff, since theres loads and loads of small countries that buy russian hardware and will probably sell it (since they aren't stereotypical enemies of the US probably) for a slightly higher price. Its true though that the americans could learn shitloads from the russians, i used to have this book about all this stuff russia researched during the cold war and some of it kicked ass, plus you have the biggest transport planes, the biggest (and badest) subs, top quality helicoptors (i remember the russians embarressed the americans in particular by proving that dual rotors could actually work and produce faster, more efficient choppers) cheap, effective tanks (although they aren't a match to any nato tank) and generally lots of tried and tested stuff.

I once saw a documentary on the us Opfor .... they operated a Hind which was captured from the iraqi's. The program said that the pilot who flew that aircraft was the most active hind pilot in the world as he flew 5 days a week for about 5 hours. He admitted to liking the hind better compared to the cobra bcuz its simple and doesnt break down. And ofcourse the giant armour on that thing might also be a nice thing. smile.gif

native americans and americans are not the same...

BTW the MI-24 is the best !!

they should add russian fighter jets in OFP.

I seen the soviet history on the discoery wings channel on TV and it showed the history of the hind ,MI-14,MI-7.

dude I forget the name but I seen a giant transport soveit chopper with 2 rutters and able to carry tanks and missiles.

we need those kinds of choppers in OFP!

The South has cities just like the north east and west coast, and south west.Mid-west is the problem though.States like utah, and other around it.Maybe you haven't been to south florida,But they call that place cuba for a reason. Most cities aren't racist, but in the country is where all the racist is at.<span id='postcolor'>

I used to live in New Mexico that about far south as you can get before you get to Mexico. I'm not saying the cites are the bad places but the towns certainly are not the most multiracial friendly place in the world.

Yeah i saw that as well, it was all about mi. That helicoptor you spoke of was for a long time the biggest helicoptor in the world, i saw it lifting some massive stuff. I saw the one on kamov as well but unfortunatly it had nothing on the hokum (my most favorite gunship smile.gif ). But the general impression you got was these those companies made the best choppers in the world (and pretty much innovated it as well). This is proven by all the class russian choppers there are biggrin.gif

Do the new Hokums have two crew members instead of one? If not, I think that is one serious drawback of the Hokum. They have taken the jobs of two people and put them onto the head of just one.

Doing the navigation, flying, fighting, targeting, and watching your six all at once can be very hard on the pilot of the Hokum. Pilot fatigue would be a big problem in a war zone. IMO.

The hokum has two pilots, the KA-50 has a set up like the apache and cobra, the KA-52 has then both sitting next to each other. There are two pilots.

Its also highly manuverable, can take off and fly in any weather condition and the targeting systems are known as some of the best in the world. It can spin around to cover its six extremly quickly, uses dual rotors which give it shitloads of advantages including extra armor, massive loiter times, better manuverability (many US military analysts and chopper designers said dual rotors would not add anything to gunships btw biggrin.gif) has a state of the art ejector seat, is armed with the latest weapons and radar and is generally pretty nifty. It also look amazingly cool. It costs a third of the commanche, although it lacks a stealth kind of chassis (although rumor has ot the russians have stealth technology that doesn't need a snazzy chassis - possible stealth chopper?)

generally its pretty cool. The Havoc is quite nice as well.

dual rotors= extra armor??.. seems like an extra rotor would decrease reliability.. because thats twice as many blades.. and if just one giets hit and sheers off it would destabilaze the entire assembly..

rumor has ot the russians have stealth technology that doesn't need a snazzy chassis - possible stealth chopper?

radar absorbing material has been around for ever, and USSR can hardley afford its own weapon..  so best case scenario is they develop "best chopper in the world" and can only afford to build and maintain 5 of them.. very useful indeed... of course they could just sell them to anyone and everyone willing to pay with no concern of whos buying it like they do everything else..

It concentrates power distribution in the front of the gunship (the cockpit) and up one single rotor, so extra power isn't required at the back (the tail rotor which doesn't provide lift anyway, isn't used on the hokum). this means there is more power to go around and more powerful rotors, which means weight can be increased and extra armor strapped on (this also means more armament and more speed). This also makes ground maintenence easier. The dual rotors also allow allows it to perform flat turns at any speed (it can go like a rocket and still turn round very fast). The power plant itself can run without oil for 30 minutes (as a nice side feature)

its not like the russians are the only users of russian equipment, if a bigger country decides to buy them they can probably afford a few optional extras. china probably being the big buyers here (remembering its a fast developing country and touted as the next big superpower). Still, it still stands that the hokum can be made into a stealth chopper without adding (or having to add) about 70 billion dollars to the production price

I have always thought that Canada should buy a few SU-35's or Mig 29's, hollow them out and fill it with Canadain made electronics and engines and arm it with American Air to Air missles. It would be cool to see what kind of fighter we ended up with.

But we have to buy all our stuff from the States. I believe that's part of the NATO or possibly NORAD agreement. Besides that, our Armed Forces have NO money, we have been ruled by Liberals since '93 and they don't like the military.

"ak47 best gun in the world"

hmmm..

hmm.. the Ak-47 is.. or WAS the most reliable assualt weapon when it came out.. but since then most all countries have weapons that are just as reliable, due to its very loose fitting parts is was not very accurate... its the cheapest assualt rifle in the world with an avarage cost of around $15 US (except in the US) of course most of these are not genuine soviet ones.. but made by.. god knows who all.. the ruskie gove got rid of the 47 in favor of the 74 after seeing the benifits of the smaller faster lighter round the US used in Nam.. though the inventor...im not even gonna try to spell his name but I do know it.. didnt like the decision..

when (cant spell first or last name) came to the US to 'hang out' with Eugine Stoner (designer of M-16) when asked if he was bitter than he got no finiancal benifit from designing the most mass produced weapon in the world he said "Mr Stoner has his own airplane, I can not afford a airplane ticket" (boy that would piss me off.. gotta love that gov eh?)

the ak is probably the swiss army knife of poor countries.. they are cheap and EVERYWHERE.. but thats about the only realistic benifit of them (if you would consider those benifits).. but saying its the best assualt rifle in the world is retarded.. its not accurate, its not well balenced (not with that big assed bannana mag) and its at best its equally reliable as most modern rifles... also the 47 is a very awkward weapon when fitted with its 30 round clip.. in VIetnam some US soldiers would take AKs into the cambodia (spec ops kinda shit) because they knew that if they fired the enemy probably think it was their own firing and would probably at least be confiuesd long enough for them to get a deacent bit away.. anywho most of them commented on how the AK with the 3o round mag got snagged on everything and was hard to fire prone..

the G36 is better, the A2-3 is better... most every modern assualt rifle is far superior to the ak in every area
