Rough Knight 9 Posted March 23, 2007 Hi folks, I have this issue where the game will randomly turn very bright. It will play OK for a while, then all of a sudden the screen turns light. Its like the HDR lighting is faulty. I actually need to reset my machine to get ARMA to work again properly when it happens. However if I start a diff game...it is fine. It is specific to ARMA, not sure..because it happens randomly it's hard to figure what settings if any may be causing some kind of issue. My specs are: AMD 64 3500 X800XL 2G ram asus a8n-sli-deluxe Any sugggestions out there? Ta Frosty
MrZig 0 Posted March 23, 2007 Try setting the ArmA brightness down.
OFPDude 0 Posted March 23, 2007 I agree, the HDR light is much too bright especially when flying choppers, it gives a flickering strobe effect from the rotars. there is a way to "tame" the HDR and involves changing HDRPrecision to 16Bit in your ArmA.cfg file: <table border="0" align="center" width="95%" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0"><tr><td>Code Sample </td></tr><tr><td id="CODE"> HDRPrecision=16; Most of the old video cards default to 8Bit which gives extremely bright screens when when facing the sun. Rough Knight 9 Posted March 23, 2007 My screen is bright what ever way I face whenever this happens. There is no escape. Makes the game unplayable because I cant see clearly even 5 metres in front of me. Thanks Frosty
MrZig 0 Posted March 23, 2007 That happend to me if I put my ArmA brightness up to 1.5+. Try putting "brightness" in the video tab down, or put HDRPrecision to 16 like OFPDude said. Go to C:\Documents and Settings\YOURNAME\My Documents\ArmA open ArmA.cfg, and change HDRPrecision from 8 to 16.
Bobcat26 0 Posted April 16, 2007 This 16 cfg trick worked nice for me I couldnt fly any choppers before without being blinded But! Now the Antialiasing AA is disabled So Im stuck with big jaggy lines or Blinding windshields Are they working on a fix for this ? swtx 42 Posted April 16, 2007 If your running an X800 series card I suggest you roll back the drivers to 6.7 or 6.11. I personally am running 6.11 drivers and they fixed the HDR issue for me You can grab the 6.11 drivers right here You can get the ATI 6.7 Drivers here
Op4 BuhBye 0 Posted April 16, 2007 I had the same issue and I found out that I have to run my brightness at .8 and gamma at .9. Any higher and I get that same issue.

P4 3.4 Ghz 2 Gb Ram 7950 GT 512mb HDR over brightness happens sometimes....especially after ejecting from a vehicle. Use the HDR Precision 16 in cfg (set it to read only afterwards) to disable the sun glare. AA won't anymore though but you can use SSAA instead...works for me but not everyone. This may have unfair advantages in MP games though...as other players will be suffering from white light blindness. Have you tried wearing sun glasses when you play, that works too
Bobcat26 0 Posted April 17, 2007 Nope Wrong this isn't about looking toward the sun it doesn't matter which direction your pointing and it only happens in the stock chopper AH1 and a few other vehicals The windshield becomes totally bleached out other then that everything else is fine
Bobcat26 0 Posted April 18, 2007 heres a nice example of the white out in a SU flying away from the sun click to the outside view and everything is fine
